damn nice deck! I'm typically a black or green specialist but I can seriously see myself building this for my local FNM. +1 definitely!

lol I love it! Another fun little red deck win XD budget and effective. I'll just have to hope that i can counter enough stuff to make this stop if I go against it ever.

i tested this, and it works fantastically! Burn at the Stake and Young Pyromancer are such a lethal combo, the only thing i found was that it burns itself out quickly. i would throw in some Wild Guess , in place of maybe Brimstone Volley . i will give you your 100th vote! +1 awesome deck!

August 24, 2013 12:20 p.m.

Made my day! This deck is hilarious, and likely to exile you from your normal MTG circle lol. The fact that it is pretty solid budget is even better.

splash white and add 4x Boros Charm . It will still trigger your snipe, phoenix, and pyromancer. You absolutely need it for wraths. Something like -2 Burn at the Stake (you only need 2-3), -2 Shock .

+4 Sacred Foundry , +4 Clifftop Retreat -8 Mountain

You could also go with 2 Burning Earth , even with the white. You have enough mountains to work around it except for when you really need it.

I'd be more interested in finding tricks to fix the hurt this deck will suffer when Innistrad block rotates out.

Lucky13 we can't really do that well that until Theros is known, but you're right there will be a lot to fix.

This looked super fun, so I decided to test it with my Infect Deck (which none of my friends want to play against either, so I thought it was fair. X3)

You drew mountain, Krenko's Command , Guttersnipe , Molten Birth , Hellrider , and 2 Burn at the Stake . - I figured it had good progression and took a risk on drawing a land next turn.

Me: 2 forest and 2 swamp, Glistener Elf , Rancor , Groundswell - Took a risk myself on getting no more land and a quick turn two 7 poison.

Roll, you 12, I, 9.

You elect to go second to draw land hopefully.

T1 Forest, tap, Glistener Elf

T 1 Draw mountain, play mountain

T2 Draw forest, play forest, tap, enchant G elf with Rancor , swing, tap 2nd forest, play Groundswell for landfall, you take 7 poison.

You: 7 poison

Me: 20 life

T 2 Draw Mountain, tap 2, play Krenko's Command . Got to get some blockers out now that you know open board can mean death.

T3 Draw swamp, play swamp. Play it safe and pass turn

  • (damn... in hand is 2 swamp, 1 forest)

T 3 draw Shock , play mountain, tap 2, play Guttersnipe to get set-up for Molten Birth next turn maybe, set up for Burn at the Stake , tap last mountain, Shock Glistener Elf . Rancor returns to my hand. Swing 2 Goblin Tokens.

You: 7 poison

Me: 18 life

T4 Draw Ichorclaw Myr , play swamp, tap swamp and forest, play Ichorclaw Myr . Tap forest, attach Rancor .

T 4 Draw Hellrider , tap 3, play Molten Birth , Guttersnipe deals 2 to me, win coin toss, Molten Birth back in your hand. Stay.

T5: Draw swamp (damn.) play swamp, swing Ichorclaw Myr . **you block with 4 Goblins and take 1. Ichorclaw Myr dies. Rancor in my hand.

T 5 Draw Shock , tap 3, play Molten Birth , won toss again. Guttersnipe deals 2 to me.

  • You: 8 poison

Me: 16 life

T6: Draw Invigorate , play forest. Pass

T 6 Draw Burn at the Stake , tap 3, Molten Birth , won toss. Guttersnipe deals 2, swing with G. and 2 tokens. I take 6 total.

Me: 10 life

T7 Draw Mutagenic Growth . Conceed.

(damn. Not so great for me. Not that great for you either, but at least you started to build at the end. I'll out game 2 in another comment, since this one is already super long. -_-' )

You draw: 2 mountains, 2 Guttersnipe , Molten Birth , Pillar of Flame , Krenko's Command . Good progression, offensive and defensive kill spells

Me: Swamp, Forest, Giant Growth , Mutagenic Growth , Glistener Elf , Ichorclaw Myr , Putrefax .

Roll, You 15, Me 10. You choose to go first, have a mana to kill anything if you need to T1

T 1 play mountain, pass.

T1 draw Glistener Elf , play forest, tap, play G. elf. You tap mountain, Pillar of Flame it. Not taking another quick hit turn 2 again. I Mutagenic Growth it to save wasting another turn to attack.

You 0 Poison

Me: 18 life

T 2 draw Prodigal Pyromancer , tap 2, play Krenko's Command . (Would've loved to pop out PP, but you know you need blockers first)

T 2 draw Invigorate , play swamp, tap 2, play Ichorclaw Myr . Pass

T 3 draw mountain, play mountain, tap 2, play Prodigal Pyromancer now that he's safe, and extra blockers will be great while you build. Pass.

T3 draw swamp, play swamp, tap forest, play Glistener Elf , swing Ichorclaw Myr , block with goblin.

T 4 draw Shock , tap 3, play Molten Birth , lose toss, but trigger PP. Now have PP, 1 Goblin and 3 Elementals on field.

T4 draw Hand of the Praetors , swing Ichorclaw Myr . block with goblin - Have 2 Glistener Elf and Ichorclaw Myr on field.

T 5 draw Prodigal Pyromancer , tap 2, play PP, tap 1, play Shock on Ichorclaw Myr , but I Giant Growth to keep him alive. Shock triggers both PP, adds two Elementals. - Now have 5 elementals and 2 PPs.

T5 draw Mutagenic Growth (this isn't going anywhere for me....-_-) swing Ichorclaw Myr block with elemental

T 6 draw mountain, play mountain, tap 3, play Guttersnipe . Stay, no point in wasting people. waiting for Burn at the Stake .

T6 draw swamp, play swamp, tap 4, Hand of the Praetors . Swing 2 2/2 Glistener Elf , 2/2 Ichorclaw Myr . block with Elementals. (on field now for you is 2 PP, 1 Guttersnipe , 1 Elemental)

  • In hand is Putrefax and Invigorate and on field for me is 2 G. Elves, Ichor. Myr, Hand o' Praetors

T 7 draw Brimstone Volley , tap 3, play Brimstone Volley on Hand of the Praetors (but I Mutagenic Growth it to keep it alive again.) In hand is Guttersnipe

You 0 Poison

Me: 16 life

T7 draw swamp (damn, need a forest), play swamp. Swing 2 2/2 G. Elves, 1 2/2 Ichorclaw Myr . block with Elemental, 1 PP, and block 1 G. Elf with Guttersnipe to kill it. You now have only 1 Prodigal Pyromancer on the field.

T 8 draw Krenko's Command , play K.C, triggers PP, +3 Elementals on the field in addition to having 1 PP, pass

T8 draw forest, play forest, tap 5, play Putrefax , triggers Hand of the Praetors , you gain 1 poison counter. Swing everything: 6/4 Putrefax , 2/2 Glistener Elf , 2/2 Ichorclaw Myr , 3/2 Hand of the Praetors and give you 3 life to give Putrefax +4/4 from Invigorate . I swing a total of 17 poison and you can only block 4.

Game.

Phew. Well, that game slowed a bit in the middle for us both, and then unfortunately you weren't able to capitalize on having such an abundance of tokens.

So, the score is 1-1. If you want me to play a third game and report, I will, but honestly, I'm tired of writing it all down. Takes forever. I'll play a third and give you an overview though. = D

Nevermind, this one was quick.

Game 3

You 2 Mountain, 2 Molten Birth , Prodigal Pyromancer , Pillar of Flame , Krenko's Command Good progression, defense

Me: 2 Forest, 1 Golgari Guildgate , Plague Stinger , Ichorclaw Myr , Mutagenic Growth , Groundswell . Good flow and Plague Stinger wins me games often.

You go first

T 1 play mountain, pass

T1, draw Giant Growth , play Golgari Guildgate

T 2 draw Chandra's Phoenix , play mountain tap 2, play Krenko's Command for blockers again.

T2 draw Livewire Lash , play forest, tap 2, play Plague Stinger

T 3 draw Brimstone Volley , You don't like that Plague Stinger so you tap 1 and Pillar of Flame it, but I Mutagenic Growth it and save it. Damn that MG. XD

You 0 Poison

Me: 18 life

T3 Draw Ichorclaw Myr , play forest, swing Plague Stinger , tap 2 forest for Giant Growth and Groundswell with landfall, so +7/7, you take 8 flying poison.

You 8 Poison

Me: 18 life

T 4 draw Searing Spear , may not last another turn with that Plague Stinger out, so tap 2 and Searing Spear it, killing it. You figure I probably don't have a turn 3 haste creature, so you swing 2 1/1 goblins, dealing me 2.

You 8 Poison

Me: 16 life

T4 draw Phyrexian Crusader , tap 2 and play Ichorclaw Myr

T 5 draw mountain (Yay!), play mountain, tap 2, play Prodigal Pyromancer

-on the field: 2 goblins and PP

T5 draw Hand of the Praetors , tap 2, play Livewire Lash

-on the field, Ichorclaw Myr and Livewire Lash

T 6 draw mountain, play mountain, tap 2, Brimstone Volley on Ichorclaw Myr to get that out of the way, triggers PP, add 1 Elemental. Swing 2 goblins.

You 8 Poison

Me: 14 life

T6 draw forest, play forest, tap 4, play Hand of the Praetors

T 7 draw mountain, play mountain, tap 3, Molten Birth , lose flip, but triggers PP. Now have 4 Elementals and 2 Goblins, 1 PP on field. Might as well swing 3 1/1s. I block one, killing it and take 2.

You 8 Poison

Me: 12 life

T7, draw Mutagenic Growth , tap 2, attatch Livewire Lash to Hand of the Praetors , tap other 2, play Ichorclaw Myr for good measure, triggering HoP, giving you 1 poison counter, then play Mutagenic Growth for 2 life on HoP, causing it to deal 2 damage in the form of poison counters to you, bringing you up to 11.

You 11 Poison

Me: 10 life

Game.

Overall, your deck was fun to play against. You certainly gave me a run for my money against my deck, which is rare. =D I would suggest trying to find more things to take advantage of your tokens and deal direct damage just for having them. Often, as you saw, I'd get a lot of tokens, but wouldn't have anything to do with them besides wait, since the times I did have Burn at the Stake I didn't have enough mana to cast it. (Though, the quick army of tokens was pretty fun and is a force all on its own.)

Anything that might say "deal damage equal to the number of creatures on the field/you control" (if there is such a thing) would be great in this deck.

Thanks for a fun afternoon and if you feel the call, any comment or critique on any of my decks would be great. =3

I would say tell them to get better at the game. Burn decks can be tough but they aren't impossible. Witchbane Orb shuts it down completely if you can't beat them by turn 4. There are tons of other countless competitive decks that can beat this. Don't get me wrong, the deck looks good and I give you all the credit in the world for building it, but it sounds like your friends are babies.

I totally fell in love with this deck. After play-testing it for just a bit, I found its speed and deadliness to be quite comparable.

So, for anyone else who posted here, what to do about rotation?

September 11, 2013 12:49 p.m.

Vahmoud says... #24

We need a suitable replacement for, Burn at the Stake , Pillar of Flame , Brimstone Volley , and Hellrider .

Pillar of Flame seems replaceable with any other cheap burn spell.

Brimstone Volley seems similar to that as well.

However, Burn at the Stake and Hellrider both seem quite difficult to exchange.

Are there any cards that would allow the multitude of tokens to be taken advantage of?

Perhaps Barrage of Expendables ? Compensate it with Act of Treason so you you can grab their Big Bad, attack them with it, burn for 1, sac and burn for another 1.
