Springleaf Drum could help accelerate.

Wait, actually, it's impossible to cast that...

There are some phyrexian mana artifacts you could try as well.

I love the concept! That being said, some playtesting confirmed my suspicions - without Mycosynth Golem in your opening hand, you're pretty much sunk unless you happen to draw into it right away. Without it, you'll be stuck with a bunch of unhelpful 0 drops on the field, and a bunch of expensive unplayables in your hand.

Moreover, some of your 0 drops aren't very helpful. I love that you used Darksteel Relic and could see some potential utility for an indestructible affinity enabler... but it really isn't all that helpful. The same goes for Tormod's Crypt and Everflowing Chalice . I would suggest pulling some or all of those in favor of more of the phrexian mana cards like gitaxian probe.

There is however, one card that will be potentially huge for this deck - Serum Powder . It enables 'free' mulligans for you to go find your golem, and if you draw into it, it can even provide you with some utility ramp provided you have found your golem (though you probably wouldn't need it at that point). Certainly worth a thought, and I would like to see someone use that card effectively!

And um, re-reading Mycosynth Golem it says "artifact creatures" get affinity... so your forge is literally unplayable. Always.

Haha, Gnarok, I didn't really pay too much attention to the whole forge-not-being-playable thing, I was just like "Hey, I have a few of those laying around, why not throw them in?". And I was considering serum powder, and after playtesting for a little while, I think you're right. As for the crypt, it would be a lot better sideboarded, and I was looking for a replacement for the chalice. Do you think Gut Shot , Marrow Shards or Mutagenic Growth would be viable replacements?

And DNSolver, were you talking about Mox Opal ? Because as much as I'd like to run it, not only is it legendary, but they're almost $40 each, and I don't know anyone locally I could get them off of.

Also, I was thinking of adding in Kuldotha Forgemaster to tutor for my win conditions after I have Mycosynth Golem out. Thoughts? Thank you guys so much for the comments and feedback!

Actually, Darksteel Citadel isn't banned!

Haha, even though it would super add to the affinity count, I'm going to try my hardest to keep this landless. If I can't find replacements for cards that are just dead in my hand most of the time, I might add them in. For now, I think I'll keep them on hold in the maybeboard. On top of that, I don't own any haha.

I get the 'landless' theme, but in playtesting, I never got a golem out before turn 7 - and I only did that once. thats not all that viable in any format, let alone modern.

Svedishgypsy says... #10

Gnarok, have you playtested it since I added in the sideboard/Street Wraith /Salvage Titan ? It's a lot more reliable now, as I have a decent amount of draw, and can pump out a ton of damage early. The golem now is really more of a hindsight, I might even end up removing him and the bombs he comes with.

Why Sickening Shoal ? You only have the Street Wraith thats black... Take Sickening Shoal out. And also take Serum Powder ...

Svedishgypsy says... #12

peterlravn, the Sickening Shoal ] have more than the Street Wraith s. Salvage Titan is black also, and worst case scenario, I can always use another Sickening Shoal . And I've actually grown quite fond of Serum Powder , it's not too bad. And on top of that, there aren't any viable replacements I have for either card.

Mox Opal and be careful artifact hate is a big ting in modern

After all the suggestions, I might eventually try to get my hands on a Mox Opal or two. I'd personally rather run Darksteel Citadel , just because it's cheaper, it isn't legendary, and I don't need colored mana at all really. And as for the artifact hate, I forgot to put 4x Noxious Revival in the sideboard. Should help a little bit, and get back any draw or cannon fodder.

Should key word. I just know there is a lot of it.

Awesome.... I have been working on my landless affinity deck as well for awhile. For mana options, I have thought about Paradise Mantle , Springleaf Drum , Lotus Bloom . However, I believe what you have here is more effective use of "no-land" concept. If you end up getting Darksteel Citadel , then I would recommend the drum. My concept was to create a mid-range to late-game opportunity with cards like Mycosynth Golem and Platinum Emperion . Other option that I am currently leaning toward is Shrapnel Blast and Galvanic Blast shock them to death after my weenies nibble up on the life for 2-4 turns. Other option that I can think about is also Greater Gargadon

slayers_artion, thanks for the comment! I originally had Mycosynth Golem in here as a win-con, but as this deck literally has no mana, it was just to hard to pull off. So I built it to work more like a storm deck, emptying my hand as soon as possible. It doesn't really cantrip too much, but considering I have 3 draw cards, it works decently. The deck mainly relies on a T1 Salvage Titan , and it relies on it quite heavily at that. But, since there isn't much else I can use in modern, it works as best as I believe I can make it. Here's hoping something good comes out in Theros!

You need a way to gain life if your going to be using your life as mana. Also, Shield Sphere can work in here

July 29, 2013 3:46 p.m.

Svedishgypsy says... #21

darkmatter32x and PotatoPi, thanks for the comments! And Saljen, since this is in modern, Shield Sphere can't be in it. And on lifegain, there is about no possible way for me to do so. But since this deck hopes to win by turn 4, I usually don't have to worry about it.

What do you think about Simian Spirit Guide

+1 very good idea

July 31, 2013 5 a.m.

Svedishgypsy says... #24

D3fied, I wouldn't really be able to use him for much, except to cast Gut Shot , which I don't need mana for anyways. Thanks for the suggestion though.

skrech, thanks for the +1!

Description is incorrect, you wrote Darksteel Ingot when you meant Darksteel Relic .
