I like. Seems fun. How about less praetors and more Turn Aside /Negate /Mana Leak to protect your Mindshrieker and Quicksilver Amulet ?

I considered a bit of early control but the chances of ripping a counterspell of the top with Mindshrieker seems really high. The main goal is still to hit hard on turn 3 and turn 4 and those low mana cost creatures don't seem worth it. What ratio do you think would work? Swap out 2 Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur and 2 Sheoldred, Whispering One for 4 Turn Aside ?

Also, Spellskite can block early game and protects the two key cards as well. And card:Apostle's Blessing can make the bird unblockable and also protects the two key cards.

so what happens if you don't get a Mindshrieker turn one? seems like a risky deck

You panic and mulligan down to 2 ;D

without playing counter spells, it will only take 4 removal spells to stop your deck entirely. maybe just Negate main baord? its better in the late game than Mana Leak and you only want to counter non-creatures anyway...

If you don't get a Mindshrieker in your hand or a ponder, I would mulligan down to 4 and if you still don't have 1, its just a loss. Oh well, this isn't a tournament deck, just a fun one. As for kill spells dominating the deck, of course! It is a gimmicky deck! And every aggro deck built around 1 creature is destroyed by kill spells (except for Dungrove Elder and the likes). Also, if the Mindshrieker dies, you can always try out the old Quicksilver Amulet and Djinn of Wishes to drop some heavy fat down. If you get Sheoldred, Whispering One or Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur to hit the board and live for even 1 turn, you probably win the game. Also, card:Apostle's Blessing can help protect either win condition and Chancellor of the Annex also helps Mindshrieker live an extra turn. Thanks for the comments!

+1 if you like it!

hey dude ive been working on a mindshrieker deck. you could run Unburial Rites but youd have to splash white. You can bring back those fat creatures back from your gy. Itd be good with sheoldred to bring even more back with her. .Sutured Ghoul is also something to think about. He'll give those fatties sitting in your gy new purpose. :)

oh by the way, I would use Delver of Secrets  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Insectile Aberration rather than ponder. You can peek the first card of your library and choose to activate mindshrieker before your draw step if its something good or draw and then activate if you get a land. It combos nicely with djinn of wishes too.

Oh wow, I never saw Delver of Secrets  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Insectile Aberration. I like it! I'll figure out how to get it in as I like Ponder as well. I might go 2 and 2, I'm not sure. Also, Unburial Rites is a really good card and I've considered it for sure, but honestly, I don't feel like trying to splash white for it. If I take the blue out of my other deck Innistrad White Humans FTW and free up my 4 Glacial Fortress , then I will probably put Unburial Rites in this deck. My only problem with Sutured Ghoul is that it removes my graveyard so if I drop him and he gets hit with removal, I'm in a really bad position. Also, would you recommend running Noxious Revival ? I can't decide if I like it more than card:Apostle's Blessing or not.

Yeah Sutured Ghoul sorta puts all your eggs in one basket but i like risky decks. and i feel you on how akward trying to fit Unburial Rites is, so yeah i dunno. Grimoire of the Dead could be pretty lulzy in this deck if you could actually pull it off. As for noxious revival couldnt tell you. I havent gotten my cards in yet. If I was gonna run something like that, I might actually run Grasp of Phantoms That would give you removal, when you mill it with Mindshrieker

Love the idea. Could use some cuts. You need to run a few more lands and something like turn aside or blessing to protect your birdy. I'd cut the djinn for lands.

I've play tested this deck about 30 times or so against 2 different tournament champion decks and it wins about 25%. The Chancellor of the Forge has been amazingly underwhelming. I am going to take it out but I'm not sure what to put in. 2 more Island s are going to come in so Quicksilver Amulet can hit more consistently. I'll most likely put in 1 Wurmcoil Engine and 1 Skaab Ruinator as well.

IMO, Ponder must go. Put those Delver of Secrets  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Insectile Aberration in place of the Ponder s. Chancellor of the Forge seems crazy out of place in this deck, so I'll agree you should really remove it. Spellskite is honestly your best friend if you aren't going to run counters to avoid spot removal of those shriekers. Nephalia Drownyard s are a nice way to spend mana on a turn you simply cannot play or are locked (which I can see happening frequently and easily with this deck.)

Undead Alchemist would also fit nicely into the deck if you threw in x2... but now I fee like I'm making it too close to my deck :P

So if you get the Shriekin to play turn 2 and it never dies you win. If it is not in your openinghand you must mulligan to it and if you can't find it you lose. Not exactly a consistent deck in a format with mana leaks and loads of cheap removal.

... cute idea... you need more cards to stall with though and you need to get Mindshrieker asap. just cause you have 4 of them doesnt mean you'll get one in your opening hand. i think you need more instants or maybe card:Norn's Annex to stall with

clamyd says... #25

one idea i had is to run some Mimic Vat so if shrieker dies you can bring him back and let him do his thing for 5 mana. Also I agree with using spellskite or turn aside. Does anyone know if he could just imprint a Spellskite with mimic vat and just leave 3 mana open to bring it back and pop the ability?
