seriously guys... read the previous comments before you go looking like a fool. FOR THE LAST TIME, THIS DECK ISN'T 100% ABOUT Mindshrieker ! Also, @ Theename Vampire Nighthawk isn't standard!!! Come on dude. This deck is NOT designed to win every single match. It is designed to be fun to play and to give me something to do with all my chancellors that have been sitting in my binder for months. If I run too many cards like card:Apostle's Blessing to simply keep Mindshrieker alive, I will have such a great chance of pulling one off the top with Mindshrieker 's ability that keeping the dumb bird alive won't be worth it because it is no longer a threat. As for running more land, the SAME ARGUMENT APPLIES!

Seriously guys, I know there are 50+ comments now but honestly, at least skim them before you say the same dumb things everyone else says.

Thanks for the +1s and the useful comments!

I don't know if you're worried about standard or not. But I think if you're not you should put emrakul, the aeon torn so that you can mill yourself as much as you want and not really be worried about it. (8

super +1 i love it.

Maybe splash for green and go "DefenseoftheHeart"? maybe just 4x dual lands G/B?

Sun Titan isn't necessary with Sheoldred, Whispering One . The black praetor brings back Mindshrieker and anything else that happens to be there.

If you don't mind, I'm going try this out at FNM next week. I LOVE fringe decks like this. I don't care if I lose every other match, a single win with something like this would make the entire night worth it. From the looks of it, I might get a few then one. +1

Are Delvers really worth it though? Is protecting that top deck land/shrieker that important? I've tried play testing it on here, but until I get the actual cards (I've only got maybe half the deck as it is right now) and play it against someone else, I can't really speak on it.

What about things like Gitaxian Probe to thin the deck? Also give you some idea how to play accordingly. Think Twice will wouldn't be THAT awful to see hit the graveyard either. Just a thought.

Delver of Secrets  Flip  FlipMTG Card: Insectile Aberration is kind of terrible in this deck. Along those lines, Gitaxian Probe and Think Twice actually HURT the deck. You need cards that have synergy with both Mindshrieker and Quicksilver Amulet . The only cards to do both are big creatures. I've playtested this deck against many tournament level decks and this setup is the best setup. It won't win you every match and at a local FNM it might not place you in the top 50% if you competition is good, but it will be a blast to play and you will win at least 25% of your matches.

I just playtested this against the Wolf Run Ramp deck that got first place or whatever (I just closed the window before I remembered to get the deck name). It actually fairs pretty well. Your deck won 2-1 both games.

Yeah, I agree. I was just offering suggestions for replacing Delver, but I really didn't like them or anything else at that cost. My friend can't understand why no Mana Leak s, he can't wrap his head around it the awesome RDW-ish theme of the deck.

Have you thought about replacing Chancellor of the Spires ? The opening hand effect doesn't really help the goal of the deck and honestly, in this environment, has a good chance of helping your opponent more. Maybe switch them out for other Praetors or Blightsteel Colossus ? Either would be equally playable (with Quicksilver) though, I don't know how the Colossus' shuffle would effect things. The +12/+12 should be worth in my opinion.

I've thought about Chancellor of the Spires a lot actually. It can for sure help people with flash back effects but my reasoning for keeping it is this, it has flying, which is nice to finish late game, and even if I put 2 or 3 spells in my opponents graveyard with flashback, it means they didn't get to play them already. That isn't great, but it is worth it I think.

I was also thinking about Blasphemous Act . Sure, it doesn't help with Quicksilver, but it's a nice +9/+9 to Shrieker. And with a set of Sulfur Falls you could have more of a chance should your luck run out. I like the idea of a card that cost less the more you need it. I mean, I think it's sideboard worthy at least.

i played this today at gameday. it's nice for shock value but not really for FNM type matches.

+1

what you do need though is more mana and maybe some protection for your bird.

I have a similar design but I'm using far less tech. The Nox. Revival is perfect, guess i was too stuck in the colors. Main difference though is my mindshrieker can go infect. I'm going to have to mod it with some of your tech though.

If you are worried about removal, why not drop in a Redirect or 2? it can be alot of fun to see the look on ppl faces also when it is "Uuh, no, I think ILL gain that life, thank you." Or even a Whispersilk Cloak or 2 for a little protect. Just a thought.

October 29, 2011 5:21 p.m.

Sage25 says... #22

He can't use Whispersilk cloak because its out of standard now. Also redirect could work but it will never work all the time because they might doomblade it when its the only creature on the field- so the redirect still only has one legal target.

Your Mindshrieker idea is not a bad one at all, however, you are leaving your opening hand full of things that you can't play. Exceeding 60 cards will reduce your chance of getting Mindshrieker out on turn 1 or 2 by quite a bit. You should focus on making it unblockable and/or hexproof. A control type deck like this should not be beaten by noncreature artifacts and playtesting it against a deck of that type shows that efficiency is in question. Blue is very powerful when played right. You don't need the Chancellors but for the green one. This could easily be a turn 4 consistent win with some blue mana acceleration. It's expensive, but trading in those Chancellors should give you about a third the trade value for a more efficient deck.

October 29, 2011 7:32 p.m.

TikiShades says... #24

If he got rid of the Chancellors, milling himself would prove far less effective. Mulligan until he has a Mindshrieker, so you actually have more Chancellors to mill himself for damage.

And he has 60 cards in his deck. What are you talking about when you mention "exceeding 60 cards will reduce your chance of getting Mindshrieker out?"

And again, the deck isn't COMPLETELY focused on Mindshrieker . He has Quicksilver Amulet for the Chancellors for late-game finishing. He's said that a million times. -o-

What noncreature artifacts beat this deck so effectively? What deck are you referring to? I'm not aware of a "noncreature artifacts" deck other than Puresteel Equipment decks, and I don't understand what would give them such a huge leg-up against that deck.

And you said that trading in the Chancellors will be "expensive... should give you a third [of] the trade value..." So it's going to cost him a lot of money, and yet reduce the deck cost to a third? Huh? His deck value is only ~$50. How is ~$15 "expensive?"

Sorry to sound so put off Havadollar, but I've become agitated trying to understand your argument here. I truly don't mean to sound so vehement. Could you clarify the things above for me? _;

Get rid of a few of the big fatties and replace them with draw spells such as Forbidden Alchemy and Visions of Beyond that will work well with the self-mill strategy. For laughs I'd throw in a couple Laboratory Maniac . Splashing for black with Darkslick Shores and Drowned Catacomb would give you access to some of the self-mill fatties late game, as well as allowing you to trade the draining Noxious Revival for Disentomb . Just my two cents. Seems like a really fun deck.
