Slap down a creature and then buckle up, its a rough and crazy (albeit short) ride.
Infect.
This deck is easily capable of turn 3-4 wins, with turn 2 wins being frequent. I've easily beat decks even before Trinisphere can be sideboarded in and hit the field. In it's initial form the deck was a bit unstable - it had turn 2 wins as well but was too risky beyond that. In this version turn 3-4 wins are much easier to accomplish. There are many many routes to victory, which I won't fully describe here, but the main formula is:
Turn 2 Win
Turn 1: Forest, Glistener Elf. Turn 2: Forest, and then any combination of 2x Groundswell or Might of Old Krosa and 1x Mutagenic Growth. Infection damage = 11. Not too hard. (Can also use Giant Growth for +3/+3 instead of one of the two +4/+4 cards in order to hit 10 exactly).
'Regular' Win
Turn 1 Forest, and then either Glistener Elf or Llanowar Augur.
Turn 2 Forest, Necropede/Ichorclaw Myr if no Glistener Elf was played. If you have an elf, can swing for turn 2 win, but often better to chip in for ~6 infect with one or two steroids and keep one forest up for an Apostle's Blessing or Vines of Vastwood.
Turn 3 - pop any Llanowar Augur, and unleash hell. Cover your creature with protection/hexproof and buff away.
Maximum Possible Infect
A starting hand of Forestx2, Glistener Elfx1, Llanowar Augurx1, Might of Old Krosa/Groundswellx2, and Mutagenic Growthx1. If another Might of Old Krosa/Groundswell and Forest are drawn, the most infect this deck can pump out as fast as possible is 20 damage on turn 3...That's a double-kill!
Protection
- Apostle's Blessing - Protection from whatever they try and remove your infection with, can also provide psuedo-unblockability for a quick win.
- Vines of Vastwood - There's a reason it costs "GG" to play - hexproof and a +4/+4 steroid in one card, contributes 'vastly' to making the deck sturdier.
- Although it is sub-optimal, any of the steroids can be used to save my creatures in response to a burn spell. Lightning Bolt? Giant Growth in response to save your Glistener Elf. Worth it especially due to the low creature count in the deck and it being susceptible to removal
The Poison Vessels
- Glistener Elf - Wish I could run 12x. The foundation of the deck just waiting to blow up your opponent on turn 2-4 with alarming consistency.
- Ichorclaw Myr - Second best choice to the elf, with trample the +2/+2 ability when blocked is a free steroid. Unless they have a turn 2 creature with 3-4 toughness, being blocked by a 1-2 toughness creature will have basically no effect if Rancor//Llanowar Augur is present.
- Llanowar Augur - Even if Rancor is missing, popping this guy on the turn you plan on destroying your opponent is amazing - a free Giant Growth and trample? Yes please...FOR FREE. Similar to playing Might of Old Krosa as a sorcery, it is very obvious to your opponent when you're going in for the win. But this isn't a control deck that sits back and makes your opponent wonder what you have in hand. You pop augurs on upkeeps, main phase Phytoburst/Might of Old Krosa, and let them know that their defeat is coming.
- Necropede - Weakest creature choice but still gets the job done. The -1/-1 counter can be very relevant especially since the deck operates purely in the turn 1-4 range, so -1/-1 can easily remove some significant targets.
The Roids
- Giant Growth - efficient and to the point.
- Groundswell - this deck often keeps one-land hands if Glistener Elf and a bunch of steroids are present, but there's no better feeling than topdecking a T2 land with Groundswell and then being able to hit for 10-14 on turn 2 thanks to it.
- Might of Old Krosa - Easy to play as a sorcery because on turn 2-3 if they have an answer, they're probably going to play it anyways, so you may as well reap the benefits and get +4/+4 for one green.
- Mutagenic Growth - How turn 2 wins are possible (and easily done). Most combinations of 2 of the bigger steroids such as Groundswell or Might of Old Krosa can reach 8-9 infect damage. This helps push it over the edge for essentially free. So beautiful.
- Rancor - Trample trample trample. Nom nom nom.
- Pendelhaven - If your hand is a bit more creature heavy and missing some steroids, this can help fill the gap a bit faster. Not to relate infect to life points, but if my 1/1 hits for 2/3 instead, this would be similar to pinging for 2 damage on a land, nothing to laugh at.
Sideboard
...Needs a lot of work.
Feel free to comment, upvote, criticize, or just playtest a bit and see how many turn 2-4 wins you can get in 10 minutes. Probably over 9000.
