I aggree withjojawhi even if you just play Sacred Foundry and a couple Temple of Triumph to add a couple Chained to the Rocks side board and a set of Boros Charm main board.

Interesting. I may have to shell out some cash for those. I hadn't thought of it like that. Thanks!

With 18 enchantments have you considered side-boarding Sphere of Safety for those late game decks. Nothing halts an opponent quite like asking "do you have 8 mana? Then you can't attack me. I've had two on the field before and my opponent just sat their confused knowing he couldn't swing.
Brilliant build though.

AH HA! That would be fantastic in the side. I will have to try it out and see how it does. I'd seen the card in decks that role like 15 or 16 enchantments and never really thought mine warranted it enough. Now that you mention it, it would be good against those guys with the long game that can stall me out.
Thanks for the tip and the nice words!

THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and a +1 vote for you leonidas.

archangel of thune could be fun in this deck for some more another decent suggestion could be fencing ace a 1/1 double strike for two would be fun with your enhancements wish that the white devotion cards were decent because it looks like your devotion could be massive

I am undecided about the Archangel of Thune , I kind of don't want to have to give up anymore spots to add more creatures. I actually ran 26 dudes to start, I had 3 Favored Hoplite s and three Fencing Ace , sometimes I pull out the Fabled Hero s and put in the aces because for some reason they get zapped less.
I hope the next block has something legit for white devotion because I feel like white kind of got jipped on devotion because they got heroic. (which is pretty broken and why I run it,) but still. Hundred-Handed One is cool but again that's about it.
Thanks for the +1 angelic Sparta will remember you and your glory.

true the only white devotion stuff is summon 1/1s = devotion to white master of waves is so much better compared to that so if you have spear out they are 2/2s but still it is really annoying

SPARTAAAAANS! WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?! "HAROO!"
What a fun deck and great suggestions going on +1.
Something else you could try against those Supreme Verdict s and other types of control/wipe could be utilizing Legion's Initiative . Other than Boros Charm this helps keep your guys pumped up a little and allows them to blink away if you have the two mana. While it's really about preference at this point and the charms have multiple uses the enchantment would help your Ethereal Armor s.

"You see old friend. I brought more soldiers then you..."
Thanks for the compliment!
I actually had considered Legion's Initiative when I was fiddling around with splashing red. However I still very much prefer the mono approach and after playtesting determined that Rootborn Defenses was a great fit. especially considering I may have some tokens out by the time that verdict hits. And to mention that this deck is more about trying to win the life race as quickly as possible. So I want to try to be laying out dudes the first 3 turns at least.

Agreed. I really like the mono too, best of luck. Give us the details of any FNM's you attend =)

I'm trying to get to one this week, and I'll be playing in for a buy to the sac grand prix next week

You can protect yourself from board wipes without splashing red. Rootborn Defenses is still standard legal, and Murder Investigation can trigger heroic while leaving you with something after a verdict.

Nice Deck!
Have you tried Cavalry Pegasus ? It would be great for evasion!
Btw..How can you make cards come from a certain Edition? Thanks in advance!

"Turn three he plays a mountain, cast Boros Reckoner pass.I draw Ajani, Caller of the Pride , lay a plains, play a Hopeful Eidolon cast another Ethereal Armor on my first hopeful, so it now is swinging 16 with lifelink. of course he blocks. I'm now at 43 life to his 13, he kills my other hopeful with the 3 damage from the reckoner. pass to his turn."
Really confused by this sequence. Why wouldn't your opponent blow up your huge Hopeful Eidolon and 4 for 1 you if he blocked it? Boros Reckoner takes 16 damage and shoots it back with the trigger
December 21, 2013 9:25 a.m.
JamestheJoo says... #20
I don't know why he didn't 4 for 1 me. I think he was a bit overwhelmed and I don't know that he made that deck himself. I believe he was borrowing the reckoners and wasn't good at using his abilities. Also I should've just played my Ajani turn three and not put another armor on, when I first started playing my deck I had a bad habit of just making one guy huge which sometimes worked but more often ended up getting doom bladed or murdered.
at the top of the website where it says cards you can look up a card from a set and it shows you the HTML code to put behind it. so the phalanx leader in your decklist is followed by a bracket, [, the code, 000 then and other bracket,].

What do you need Nykthos for? Do you really ever have enough cards to be able to utilize it? Any stories?
December 23, 2013 5:06 p.m.
JamestheJoo says... #22
I use Nykthos for when I have Thune and Elspeth sided in. It just makes it happen that much faster. Though I've been out of town for Christmas so I haven't played anyone lately. But next week when I play FNM I will post an update to show how it works out. With phalanx and precinct plus an ajani out by turn 4ish, I usually end up with Elspeth turn 5-6. and start pumping out more dudes.
December 25, 2013 2:56 a.m.
i_am_acies says... #23
Yeah. I'm just not sure how many cards you will have left in your hand by that point. If you have a Nykthos in your opening hand with, say, one plains then you are screwed getting a phalanx/precinct out. I played against someone running a mono white devotion deck. The Nykthos was pretty good at getting a creature out with two plains and a nykthos to leave one plains up for brave/gods willing. So, I will give you that.
December 25, 2013 10:31 a.m.
JamestheJoo says... #24
I don't ever keep a hand with just a Nykthos and a plains, Sometimes it is a bit redundant, and unnecessary having the extra mana, but sometimes it really helps out and like you said, makes it so I can play a dude with a gods or brave or rootborn backup.

If you're looking for a counter for Supreme Verdict and you decide to go Boros, try Boros Charm . It's such a versatile card.
