Hi kapiooken,
no Wight of Precinct Six because only creatures in my opponent's GY count. However I want to fill my GY with creatures.
I don't see how the lack of removal (I have 3 mainboard) equals getting destroyed in any meta, please enlighten me?
I tried Nylea in an early form of this deck. Too slow, too late, too little impact. Also: Troll already has Trample and my other big guy flies. So it would basically only help my Nemesis and Jarad which is a bit weak for a slot in this deck.
I cannot run Mutavault . I need 2 colored mana on T2. If I draw Swamp Mutavault Elvish Mystic Slyvan Caryatid 2 Enabler and say a Demon it would be an awesome hand if the Vault was a Forest. Also I already have something that kills U/W-control pretty reliable: LOL-Troll.
@ hesuskrist The veiled Lilly is not Standard-legal and the one that is sucks ass.
@ corythackston I agree with you. DB Chant is a weird card. The main thing that bugs me about it is that it costs 6 Mana. However I rate it higher than Reaper in terms of helping against control.
Also you didn't make me mad, how do you come to such an absurd conclusion? You kinda dismantled your argumentation yourself. If I drop a Reaper T4 (with no mana up) my opponent has 1 turn to a) kill it b) sphere it. If it hit's on T6 they might already have enough of a heads up to not even care about the Reaper anymore. However only on T6 it's safe to play it, because only then it can dodge the sphere or removal.
Also: when do you not have mana up to regen your troll when you play against control? It's not like you play every card you have in your hand praying that they don't have a verdict. A T2 Troll already poses a big threat, so I don't have to commit to the board anymore.

I've been looking at running this type of deck for a while now....what do you plan to do when someone drops Rest in Peace ?
December 24, 2013 5:03 p.m.
ok so nylea is too late, that means this deck is a turn 3 or turn 4 lethal deck?yes wight i made a mistake there i realized it shortly after.fair enough if the double colour is that important no mutavaults.i still wouldnt like playing vs my local gamestore meta with just 3 toughtseizes. i would lose vs all green/red devotion decks and possibly vs most of the red deck wins decks.could outrace control indeed with the regenerate on lotleth troll.
as nitropy says you are vulnerable to RiP and rakdos charms how do you play around those?
December 24, 2013 6:17 p.m.
If RiP hits the board its GG, especially with only 2 Abrupt Decay in there...
December 24, 2013 6:40 p.m.
thas what i was thinking. RiP post sideboard he will be able to put in golgari charms. but that's about it. also vs black midrange decks like borzhov (what i am playing in standard) wont even care about the lotleth troll just precombat destroy it he regenerates -> tapped lotleth troll i swing in for free dmg and just rince and repeat. i know its bad to look at this deck from my decks point of view but i just dont see this deck doing much.
December 24, 2013 7:11 p.m.
@ Ntropy I am well aware of that card. Now tell me, how many decks exactly do run RiP in their sideboard in current Standard (and please spare me with the no-one-ever-has-heard-of-niche-decks-that-fail-to-finish-high-in-any-sort-of-tournament)?
Though maybe it becomes a thing for Esper to beat the Elixir-strategy of U/W-control... Yeah, maybe...
What does any deck do against Pack Rat, that doesn't run Supreme Verdict / Detention Sphere and misses the opportunity to get rid of it on T2? I side in my Gaze of Granite against it. Also my deck can race pretty good if everything goes according to plan.
Just out of curiosity, do you really want to burn a Hero's Downfall pre-combat on my Troll to get in some damage (if we rule out any other blockers that are almost never on the table, given that I run only 28 creatures... [that was sarcasm btw])? Again: I know there are cards that render my deck almost useless, with every graveyard based deck it is graveyard hate. The thing is, right now Standard has 0,5% graveyard based decks (if you count the Junk-Reanimator deck that has not made an impressive appearance, yet), so nobody plays graveyardhate (why would you put a 99,5% dead card in your sideboard?). And this is how my deck works. No-one expects it. And it beats the current meta pretty reliable.

I'm interested by your removal of one of the Nemesis of Mortals . What's your reasoning behind that?
December 25, 2013 6:06 a.m.
@ Chilli_Axe I wrote something about the Nemsis in one of my comments above. It doesn't hit prior to T3, other decks drop Pukanose on T3 which makes the Nemesis kinda weak. So I cut 1 of them in favor of some instant-speed removal main.
@ gammarai No it would not. I don't want to remove creatures from my graveyard I want to fill my graveyard with creatures. That's why there is no Varolz, the Scar-Striped in the first place.

This is my iteration of the deck that I used for SCG Oakland, minus the Lifebane Zombie s which I added in afterwards. Placed 45th overall and had so much fun playing the deck. I won 6 games with Rogue's Passage , I killed a Thassa, God of the Sea with Drown in Filth , I made 3 5/5 Mistcutter Hydra in a row against mono blue, and made a 32/31 Lotleth Troll bestowed with a Nighthowler , all in a day's work. I love the explosiveness of this deck sometimes, but of course it can be very inconsistent.
I don't like the recent changes that conley made to the deck because I liked the original synergy it had during GP Albuquerque.
I have won Standard FNM at my LGS for the past 4 weeks now with this deck. People have started to wise up and have sideboard cards specifically for me.

@ putrefy , well your meta seems alot different then mine then as alot of people have graveyard hate vs whip of erebos (we feature alot of black based control decks that just love brining back sin collectors and the likes
December 25, 2013 5:08 p.m.
I'm curious if you have looked at Rot Farm Skeleton for this deck? I was considering it as well for my version of this...might even be able to run less grisly salvage with his ability to continually mill 4....?

For those of you who are interested: I changed the deck quite a bit. Maybe take a look and tell me what you think :)

Wonderful deck, Dredge is great fun to play at the moment. It seems to run quite smoothly, but I have never been convinced completely with Sylvan Caryatid True its mana that's hard to remove as well as a blocker for early aggro. I completely agree with dropping Nemesis of Mortals It is nice on paper, but it never seems to get through without Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord . Have you tested with Drown in Filth ? It can be a great removal with the amount of land that gets dropped and isn't used thanks to Deathrite Shaman
I don't really have any other suggestions but would like your opinion on the importance of Overgrown Tomb ? Do you find it crucial to fix mana? I'm only running Golgari Guildgate and seem to do fine.
March 11, 2014 6:56 a.m.
I've tested with Drown in Filth and Satyr Wayfinder is so much better! I'm not a huge fan of sorcery-speed removal and it was really awkward at times. Especially with only 21 lands it's tough to hit a nasty creature on time. I only care about opponent creatures early in the game, if I have a monster suited, I don't really mind what my opponent plays as it's never bigger than my dude.
Yeah well I don't like the Guildgates because they enter tapped. You want a fast start, if possible with Tomb into Mystic to already have the required fixing. If you don't have the budget Guildgates are fine I guess.
I like the Caryatid. It ramps me and has a nice body to prevent early damage. Also the fixing proved to be crucial on numerous occasions.

How does the mana base seem to be working for you? You have so many double black cost cards, does that ever seem to slow you down? If it does you could drop 3 Forest for 3 Swamp . It would be great if the BG Temple were out....

Great deck. Will you use the B/G scry land when it gets published? Also, you have 8 ramp creatures. Is that because you expect to put a lot of lands into the graveyard with Commune with the Gods and Satyr Wayfinder ?
Reason I ask is because you might be able to drop two to find a place for Abrupt Decay on the mainboard.
+1 :)
March 11, 2014 11:25 a.m.
My manabase is fine. I have basically 8 creatures that can produce any colored mana and additionally 12 lands that can produce black. I need so many green lands because I want to ensure my acceleration hits the field in time.
I don't think so. I might be wrong on this one, but I don't particularly need the scry. All of my enablers filter through at least 4 cards. Yeah I know going deeper is always better, but having an untapped mana base is also pretty amazing - considering that almost every other deck is doing "T1 Temple" right now.
The thing with spells in this deck is: if I dump them with one of my enablers they're lost and do nothing for me. Lands get utilized and creatures do aswell. I'm acutally thinking about dropping the Hero's Downfall completely and going back to playing 2 Shadowborn Demon instead.
Thank you for the +1's :)

That's a fair point. I think the 2x Shadowborn Demon aren't at all a bad idea. Gives you great removal and a continued board presence. And you'll usually have close to the graveyard requirement by the time you play one, so you won't have to be concerned about the drawback.
March 11, 2014 1:22 p.m.
It's a solid deck, and I do agree that Shadowborn Demon is a good thing to have. A guy at my local FNM runs something very similar and he uses 2 of them to great effect.
Really, the only thing I don't like about it is that, in a standard format with Rest in Peace , Scavenging Ooze , Deathrite Shaman and a few other things.
I think it works in the current meta, but if it really starts to catch on at all, it's gonna get shut down hard with just a handful of sideboard cards.
March 11, 2014 4:58 p.m.
I believe running Commune with the Gods along side Grisly Salvage and Satyr Wayfinder is over kill. Considering you don't run any enchants main deck you are only getting creatures from Commune with the Gods . You would be better off running Thoughtseize main deck.
March 11, 2014 5:07 p.m.
It's not overkill. The more the better. I don't quite understand the logic behind "you only get creatures from Commune with the Gods , playing Thoughtseize is better". Could you explain please, maybe I've missed something.
Stating the obvious - graveyard hate is good against graveyard-based strategies, what a blow-out! You're right however. But you can count the decks that run Rest in Peace on one hand. Same goes for DRS, as he is actually only played in the Dredge-deck. ScOoze however poses a real problem for this deck, but he has fallen out of favor as of late, so again not really troublesome.
I decided to put the Demons back in after playing some games today. I rarely get to side any cards, because I don't want to hurt the flow of the deck. The Decays have already proven their worth however in helping to deal with ScOozes. I played against Golgari Midrange today - man what an ugly matchup. The dude ran 4 ScOozes main alongside 4 Decay and 2 Golgari Charm and the usual removal-suit. I got molested it was just brutal...

I like these decks in standard! My only comment is that i think in concept Nighthowler is cool, but in application it falls short. I would replace it with Nemesis of Mortals and/or Garruk, Caller of Beasts / Whip of Erebos
