The Limited Palette

• Staying in allows me to play Polluted Delta to further increase the consistency of the deck by shuffling away bad draws and removing lands from the library. I included Crucible of Worlds to take advantage of it. Most modern decks running Polluted Delta have more relevant Pithing Needle targets that it never becomes an issue where I would be forced to name the fetchland. Ghost Quarter also becomes less painful to run with the extra basic islands. This also makes the deck more resilient against Blood Moon .

• Glint-Nest Crane fills the role of Ancient Stirrings as a cantrip and also Pyrite Spellbomb as early defense and alternate wincon. It closes the gap in Ensnaring Bridge that creatures like Noble Hierarch or Signal Pest usually get through and can stave off X/1’s till Ensnaring Bridge is found.

• I use Set Adrift in place of Abrupt Decay & Maelstrom Pulse . The single color requirement and the delve mechanic make it very easy to cast and works great with mill rocks. It’s also useful for resetting Pithing Needle or stuffing the opponent’s top deck with something useless till my rocks can untap. It benefits from self milling and the delving can remove critical cards from your grave in case the opponent brings in Surgical Extraction .

Sideboard Thoughts

• Welding Jar is a must for any artifact deck and almost always comes in to fill in the slots of dead cards.

• Damping Sphere gives better game against the harder matchups like Tron and Storm.

• Grafdigger's Cage can protect against Snapcaster Mage and Ancient Grudge .

• Phyrexian Revoker is Pithing Needle #3 but gets around Chalice of the Void on 1 and can name stuff like Krark-Clan Ironworks or Chromatic Sphere .

Currently testing:

• Battle at the Bridge would help the deck not be so soft to burn and disruptive aggro decks.

• Quicksilver Fountain is an experiment to simultaneously protect the deck from Blood Moon and to disrupt mana bases.
