  • Starve of Resources (Mill)

  • Damage Beyond Repair (Burn)

  • Combo Out

Overrun and Overpower

-The most basic wincon in the deck is to amass hordes of Zombies and other creatures of the night (but mostly zombies) and run them into your opponents. Using the zombie lords (Lord of the Undead, Undead Warchief, Cemetery Reaper, and Diregraf Captain) to pump up your zombies, as well as zombie token engines in Endless Ranks of the Undead, Empty the Pits , Grave Titan , Undead Alchemist, Cemetery Reaper and Lich Lord of Unx to keep a mass of bodies on the field. Undead Warchief and Rooftop Storm help to lower the casting cost of your zombies to help flood the field and once there are enough walkers on the field and in the yard Unbreathing Horde becomes a big beatstick for only . To help control the board Grave Pact allows you to maintain pressure even while losing bodies and Attrition grants nonblack creature removal as long as you have the bodies to spare. Losing bodies isn't as much of an issue with recursion in Lord of the Undead, Beacon of Unrest, Death Denied , and Gravespawn Soveriegn. Board wipes are available in Plague Wind and Life's Finale and board flips in Living End and Living Death let you swap out fields for creatures in the yard, while using Withered Wretch and Cemetery Reaper's abilities let you keep your enemies important creatures out of the yard before flipping.

Starve of Resources (Milling)

-Secondary to attacking your enemies head on, you can also mill them out. Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker hits an opponent with a Mind Funeral every time he deals combat damage, Lich Lord of Unx mills and burns an opponent for as many zombies as you control, and Undead Alchemist makes it so when your zombies deal combat damage they instead mill for the damage amounts and when your opponents mill creatures you get more zombies to mill with.

Damage Beyond Repair (Burn)

-Another secondary wincon in the deck is to burn your opponents. While not a valid strategy in the early phases of the game, as the game draws later and the mana pools get bigger it becomes a very real way to close out games. Havoc Festival is a way of bringing on the late game that much quicker, taking half of strong every players' life during their upkeep while also preventing any healing. Now keep in mind that while this will soften up your opponents considerably, it effects you as well. Be sure to have a game plan when you play this card or it very well can cost you the game. That being said, it makes it so much easier for your hordes of the undead to break your enemies and makes for a very entertaining game atmosphere. Consume Spirit and Devil's Play are late game finishers that when combined with the Cabal Coffers + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth combo allow for tons of damage and should you have the emblem from Liliana of the Dark Realms , forget about it. Gray Merchant of Asphodel lets you burn your enemies for your devotion to black while you gain that life back, and whenever Lightning Reaver deals combat damage he gains charge counters which ping all of your enemies at the end of your turn. Lastly, its good to mention that if you are having trouble with a pesky opponent who is prioritizing lifegain, instead of using Havoc Festival you could also cast Erebos, God of the Dead to prevent them from gaining life (and you get a sweet draw engine and potential indestructible creature to boot!)

Combo Out

-Rooftop Storm allows for some sweet graveyard shenanigan combos when combined with one of the two zombies castable from the grave and a sac outlet, you can use these combos to achieve multiple goals.

-Board Wipe + Infinitely Massive Creature (Grave Pact + Rooftop Storm )

and

-Infinite Burn (Diregraf Captain + Rooftop Storm or Deathbringer Thoctar + Rooftop Storm (Also potentially makes the Thoctar infinitely massive))

So basically, using one of your sac outlets, you kill off either the executioner or the crawler, and then recast them for 0 with rooftop storm creating an infinite sac loop. With Grave Pact in play you can clear the board of all enemy creatures (if you also have Grave Betrayal in play you will then gain control of them and they'll become zombies, score!) with Diregraf Captain you get infinite life loss for target opponent, while with Deathbringer Thoctar he will continue to gain +1/+1 counters that you can then remove to either burn creatures or players.

Other Pieces:

  • Clever Impersonator lets you mimic not only your zombie lords, but also enemy Planeswalkers or creatures/artifacts/enchantments of value. You could also create a second Havoc Festival if you are feeling particularly ballsy

  • Lashwrithe comes in on a body, but you can use it to pump your creatures, and in particular Thraximundar to deal massive commander damage). When combined with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth it becomes a card to be reckoned with.
