"Have you set foot in Libya? Have you had the task of Perseus? Have you seen the eye of Sthenno which turns all to stone, or the bellowing invincible throat of Euryale herself? Have you seen the tresses of viperhair Medousa (Medusa), and have the open mouths of her tangled serpents run round you?” - Nonnus, Dionysiaca 30. 264 ff

Introduction

This was my first EDH deck that I ever built and has evolved multiple times. It started out as a reanimator/battlecruiser then transitioned into combo/control. However, I always kept the gorgon theme in the deck. Because of the low amount of actually good gorgon-type cards, I allowed myself to reduce the number of gorgons down to three, which corresponds with mythology. This is heavily influenced by Epochalyptik's Dominus - Dreamcrusher Edition, which is probably the innovator of Damia competitive control.

All the information about the Gorgon lore can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorgon

Medusa

your text here
In Greek mythology Medusa (/məˈdjuːzə, məˈdʒuː-, -sə/, US /məˈduː-/; Μέδουσα "guardian, protectress") was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as having the face of a hideous human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazing directly into her eyes would turn onlookers to stone. Damia, Sage of Stone is just like Medusa. Instead of turning people to stone, she Tooth and Nail into Deadeye Navigator / Palinchron then mills everyone with Blue Sun's Zenith or bounces everyone's permanents with Venser, Shaper Savant . Damia ability to refill your hand is so impactful for a control deck. Thus, ramping harder and casting her with back up counter spells is ideal. It’s best if Leyline of Anticipation is in play.

Stheno

your text here
Stheno (Greek: Σθεννώ, English translation: "forceful"), in Greek mythology, was the eldest of the Gorgons. Of the three Gorgons, she was known to be the most independent and ferocious, having killed more men than both of her sisters combined. Visara the Dreadful will represent Stheno, because this card is very aggressive. Good body, evasion (there was lore that Gorgons had wings, so I understand why they gave her flying), and Terminate on a stick.

Euryale

your text here
Euryale (/jʊˈraɪəliː/; Greek: Εὐρυάλη "far-roaming"), in Greek mythology, was the second eldest one of the Gorgons. In some versions of mythology, Euryale also had the ability to turn anyone to stone with her gaze and is noted for her bellowing cries. Vraska the Unseen will fill this spot. to blow up a non-land permanent is the main purpose of Vraska. I don’t even bother with her ultimate. I rather just keep cycling her -3.

Hythonia the Cruel : R.I.P., Hythonia. Oh, this is probably my favorite gorgon-related art. At one point, Hythonia was in the deck. However, as much as I didn't want to admit it, she is just really bad. Honestly, I tried to make her work. It's just that every time she was on the field, she heavily under-performed. Therefor, she got the ax.
Reaper of the Wilds : When I first saw this card, I figured that this would be the replacement for Desecration Demon when Return to Ravnica rotated out. Solid body, deathtouch, hexproof, and a scry mechanic. What more could you ask for? Then Siege Rhino was released and all dreams were shattered. Anyways, Reaper is better for sacrifice decks. Great card, just not here.
Sisters of Stone Death : This is card was so much fun to play with when I first started. Sisters is a great blocker and deterrent. However, she is just too mana expensive to be in the 99.
