Thromok and Eldrazi Hellions

Casual Budget Casual Eldrazi RG (Gruul)

Octathorp

The goal of this deck is to create a board of Eldrazi Spawn and then either go wide or go tall with a couple finishers.

First up, Eldrazi Spawn Creation: In order to slow down the board and create spawn, we have creatures like Kozilek's Predator and Nest Invader . These allow us to have blockers while we wait for a finisher. The deck also staples on Spawn creation onto ramp with Growth Spasm and removal with Spawning Breath . The last important Spawn creation is a slow but constant trickle each turn from Awakening Zone .

Finishers: The deck has two main finishers, the first gets one giant body on the board Thromol the Insatiable. You can either get a medium-sized Thromok out early, using the eldrazi spawn as a mix of devour targets and ramp, or you can wait until you have a decently wide board and get a giant Hellion (devouring 5 spawns will get you a 25/25 Thromok). The other option is safer against single target removal Hellion Eruption . With this card you will be able to sacrafice your board in order to have a fleet of 4/4s at your disposale.

Sidekicks: Two cards are not complete finishers, but do a good job to assist in the destruction. Hissing Iguanar will allow for extra damage whenever you sacrafice a spawn, this allows for large scale damage during a Thromok devour or a Hellion Eruption. Note that Iguanar triggers on both friendly and enemy deaths, so everytime the opponent chooses to chump, you'll also hit for a damage. And lastly, Hand of Emrakul allows for you to get extra value out of your spawns, trading in 4 for a 7/7 with Annihilator 1.

Overall this is a fun Hellion themed deck that is able to chump block with spawns until the rest can really be put to use. It is light on removal and needs assistance in the air, so if you have tweaks that are generally on theme, I'd love to hear them!

((This is one of my 35+ decks that I use to play against each other in casual, kitchen table style of Magic. My deck-building strategy is to have a large variety of cards while keeping a core theme. Trying to increase variety for and fun kitchen table play.))
