It actually took me till about turn 8 when testing this deck vs 3 others to realize that this deck was creatureless. Don't know how you do it, but you keep creating decks that I love. +1 good sir .

Suggestions/questionable cards:

  • Lake of the Dead + Crucible of Worlds. Lake is great for extra mana when needed; and crucible for when you discard and/or combo with Lake. Maybe I'm stubborn and think missing land drops is bad.
  • Isochron Scepter: I count 9 instants this works well with. I'm not sure how often you'll have a hand, but when I playtested, several times I got a full hand back with Geth's Grimoire and Waste Not.
  • Hecatomb: Go full jank... if you want... I once had 8 creatures from other players, and another time had 5 zombies from Waste Not. Ehhhhhhh? I could see it helping out, but certainly situational.

TheSpiritombEnthusiast Thanks! glad someone appreciates it!

Eiti3 fantastic comment as always! I really like the lake of the dead combo and will strongly consider it and if not just lake of the dead by itself. Do you think 9 instants is enough to justify isochron?

Thanks again both of you!

WOW. VERY fun looking deck! I have mono-black Kalitas/Eldrazi that dabbles in saccing, but this really pushes the envelope in a fun way! I actually have a bunch of these random enchantments sitting around AND the commander, so this will be my next mono-black build. +1 for sure, can't wait to see how this evolves!

This is a great idea for a deck; but I feel like Tainted AEther and Endless Whispers could really backfire. Since a creature being played (Solemn Simulacrum) for example, could, in the hands of two people who decide to "team up" could gain insane value simply for having the creature bounce between the two until one of them decides to sacrifice something else.

I absolutely love Devin Townsend. Had to check out the deck solely on the name.

June 4, 2017 2:06 p.m.

Forceofnature1 Thanks for the fantastic comment! I just took a look at your deck and it looks pretty neat!

SomnambulistI did think of that and thats why I have perm removal like Unstable Obelisk, Scour from Existence and if im really in a pinch I can use Descent into Madness

TheWallinator74 That is an awesome combo and ill be damn sure to play test it and the other removal spells as well. Especially Reckless Spite and Wicked Pact. Almost too good to pass up.

leviathan_cross Always glad to see a fellow Townsend fan. The man is a frickin musical genius. One of the bands he produces is how I got my user name actually. Zimmers Hole if you havent heard them.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!

I'm highly susceptible to DTP references... +1!

Just a probably stupid question, but is there a rule in EDH that makes it so that you can only have one copy of each card other than lands?

June 5, 2017 6:43 p.m.

ACDAMAN Yep 100 single cards including a legendary as the general. The colors have to mach your general as well. So if you run General Tazri that will count as all 5 colors. Life totals start at 40 instead of 20 which makes the game take a bit longer but you get more chances to play big stuff instead of low costing pricey cards. My favorite format easily.

June 5, 2017 7:22 p.m.

Zimmers_0 Isn't it just the colours in the commander's mana cost? and thanks!

June 5, 2017 8:06 p.m.

ACDAMAN Nope. Mana symbols in activated abilities count as part of color identity. Wouldn't be as fun the other way around ha

June 5, 2017 8:29 p.m.

Zimmers_0 You might have just sparked my enthusiasm for commander again... Even though I've got no one to play with... But thanks!

I'm not sure if you have a house rule or anything but Kuon, as well as the other flip creatures from Saviors, have received an errata to remove the legendary quality from them.

June 7, 2017 6:47 p.m.

Magnivore Where did you hear that? If it starts out as another perm that isnt a legendary creature it cant be never heard the reverse like Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip. I know Nezumi Graverobber wouldnt work but nothing about Kuon.

Well, it was legitimately on gatherer at the time of me posting that. Even Visara had received the errata. That's incredibly strange. To answer your question though, on gatherer which is the definitive source of card oracles. Or so I thought (Dun dun DUUUUHN!!)

Saw this deck a while ago, but I really like it with the flip-legend idea! +1 for the idea!

Check out my deckmaking game here!

Looks like a fun build, just not sure how it'd hold up against Back to Nature or Paraselene or Tempest of Light, or such since the deck relies so heavily on enchantments. The other issue would be removal as black is notoriously weak at dealing with indestructible/hexproof creatures or opposing enchantments/artifacts, particularly if an opponent has a Tajuru Preserver or drops a Song of the Dryads/Imprisoned in the Moon/Darksteel Mutation on your commander. Elixir of Immortality is a decent way to get back your stuff back into the library after wrath effects or when you've used up most your instants/sorceries.

Cool idea, very unique! +1

Nice, I tipped it to #1 with that, lol! (I happened to look at rankings right before and after)

I like the creativity of this brew. And such an impressively rapid rise to glory!

Congrats on the #1! Woohoo!

Okay so I'm not trying to be a dick or anything but so what if they've got no creatures if you can't win the game? I would play a lot more Reanimate sort of effects so that you can actually do something with all those dead creatures rather than just make the game long and unfun.

Congrats on the number one spot!

Cool name, too.

June 14, 2017 3:15 a.m.

Jimmy_Chinchila Thanks for tipping the scale! In mono black, it doesnt have good enchantment removal or protection. I do have a few back up plans like Unstable Obelisk and Scour from Existence to get rid of these pests but it can only go so far. Got any ideas to make this aspect better? The real downside to black, kill everything except enchantments. Tajuru Preserver can be spot removed and if they do give it hexproof/shroud, Arcane Lighthouse will hopefully be available. Elixir will make it into this deck somewhere.

corythackston Thats a valid question and I do run some alternative win even though you almost never see creatureless decks. Waste Not for the mass creature tokens, Painful Quandary, Polluted Bonds, Quest for the Nihil Stone, and Subversion for some life loss for playing cards, having no cards in hand, or life sap. Also, kinda funny you would suggest reanimation spells in a creatureless deck playing against another creatureless deck lol But yeah I believe I could find a spot for more reanimation spells.

Argy Only feel I got first because you didnt deck cycle yesterday! How did you manage to get 1st in T/O ranking? Thats impressive.

Thanks for your comments everyone! Great questions and ideas!

Nah the top deck drops off after about a day, so that no one can hog the limelight for too long.

I got the number 1 Decklord by building decent decks and deckcycling the hell out of them.

I have a few popular joke decks, too.

Well Reanimate steals a creature out of any graveyard, which is what I meant. Some way to steal dead creatures out of your opponent's graveyard or something. And I didn't mean anything about creatureless decks, I just meant who cares if the creatures are all dead if you can't do anything to win the game. Like I said you're just making the game long and boring for no reason if you can't do something to win the game with your board control, or just stall until someone else hits an infinite combo and wins on the spot.
