Would have been happy enough to pick it up last pick. Still happy enough to pick it up now.

Wow, that's a pack: Heliod's Emissary , Magma Jet , Last Breath , and Nimbus Naiad are all excellent.
We might be tempted to get the white emissary since it's on-color with the rest of our stuff, but we have two great pieces of removal for this format here. I'd say take the Magma Jet since it's at uncommon.

Pack's missing a rare and a common, and there's only one black symbol in the pack; I'd say someone above us took some black. The fact that there's some really good white and red on this pack tells me we are definitely good to go for white, and possibly want to move into red (unless there was a red rare and a Lightning Strike in this pack, which would make it ridiculous).

We could also just take the emissary and try to continue cutting off white to send a strong white signal. I doubt we'll be able to make a mono-white deck, but if we continue to get good white cards and we start cutting off white as hard as we can, we might just be able to do that

Considering we just passed a few decent red cards we may want to take the jet regardless. This is a tough choice, as we want to signal white but also want to take an excellent card. Taking the jet may also give a signal for red since there'll only be one red card in this pack, while taking the emissary won't really signal white at all.
My current vote is for Magma Jet , but we need everyone to discuss this pick as it could be very important. Passing either card would likely push someone towards that color, and would definitely start shaping our deck.

I'm not willing to let pass a Magma Jet so early, this card is just too great. Sure the Heliod's Emissary is on our current color and will help the signal but I haven't been very impress by it in the previous drafts I made. I also could be terrible at this game XD. I'm quite curious about the other teams early pick instead of the Jet
And I also think that Red/White is quite strong and give us access to very decent common.
Magma Jet all the way for me
October 16, 2013 10:31 a.m.
I'm wondering what the common was that the other guys completely skipped over Magma Jet . It's pretty good removal, it's getting rid of some dead draws...
I'm afraid that the Emissary won't wheel around, but Magma Jet just seems too good to pass up.
I also agree with agGravity, that a lot of good commons/uncommons are in red/white, so going this direction wouldn't be too foolhardy.

I agree, R/W is strong in triple THS. my vote is for Magma Jet . Removal AND a little card advantage? Sign me up.
October 16, 2013 2:50 p.m.
I wouldn't mind ending up with a R/W heroic deck. Most of the good heroic cards, in my opinion, are the white cards and a few of the red ones.
October 16, 2013 2:56 p.m.
I'm not totally sold on the Heroic mechanic. It require too much support and we're usually left with medium value creature or picking bad Bestow just for the sake of a Heroic Trigger.
I don't mind picking the good one and with good value, but let's not make the mistake of getting stuff like Akroan Crusader (sorry, I'm really not a fan) only to have more heroic option. I see more our deck as a Aggro one than enchant abuse.
Red gives us option like Minotaur Skullcleaver that makes fast aggro so efficient in Draft.
October 16, 2013 3:15 p.m.
We may want to pick up some ordeals (they're pretty good in limited) but I agree that we shouldn't rely on Heroic. And many of the bestow creatures are actually pretty good in this format; in RW, I can think of Heliod's Emissary , Purphoros's Emissary , Spearpoint Oread , Hopeful Eidolon , and of course Celestial Archon .
October 16, 2013 4:01 p.m.
I'm not saying we should strive for it. I just wouldn't mind it. As for Bestow, I'm not a fan. I think it's too expensive but i haven't ever drafted them so i wouldn't know how they preform in a draft.
October 16, 2013 4:14 p.m.
I've been to a prerelease and watched a few drafts, bestow is pretty powerful. The cost is expensive for a reason, you're essentially creating partial card advantage by adding effects and p/t to the board without risking another card.
October 16, 2013 5:15 p.m.
and it also becomes a creature when that creature dies, right?
October 16, 2013 5:35 p.m.
Yes.
And if the creature gets remove as you cast the Bestow it won't fizzle due to no legal target, it will hit the battlefield as a creature, so no way to fizzle it.
Also if you cast it as a Bestow and the creature gets remove it's stays a enchant on the stacks meaning you can't Essence Scatter it.

I can definitely see the arguments for Magma Jet , but I must say that in my Theros limited format experience creatures tend get get very large very quickly. So, one could say that Magma Jet would be useful to kill said creatures before they become too tough to handle. However, I am afraid that it wouldn't be as useful as some of you are thinking. 2 damage just doesn't seem like enough.
On the other hand, I have seen Staunch-Hearted Warrior be a powerhouse in limited, especially with cards like Dauntless Onslaught and Heliod's Emissary supporting it. I've seen G/W heroic/bestow do very well.
So I'm going to vote for Heliod's Emissary and hope Staunch-Hearted Warrior wheels. I'm already outvoted though, so if we don't decide for that strategy (which looks to be the case) so be it.
October 16, 2013 8:20 p.m.
I would be willing to change my vote to Heliod's Emissary , after talking about it earlier. I still think that it would be a bit expensive but if everyone thinks that it's worth it, we should take it now while it's in front of us.
October 16, 2013 8:40 p.m.
Magma Jet does hit a lot of creatures though, and the scry 2 is awesome. It may not hit a creature that got bestowed but we can use cards like Divine Verdict and Rage of Purphoros . With that said, I wouldn't be upset if we took the emissary, but I don't think we'll see another Magma Jet in this draft.

Now that I see what the pack is, I'm going to vote with Timekeeper on Heliod's Emissary for the same reasoning as him.

@Goody - Midnight has passed and I have no pick from this group. Recording other picks, and then I'll do my best to deduce your pick.

I count 3-2 in favor of Magma Jet , including the group leader in the majority. Picking that.
