@ALX

Well, you can put its ability on the stack as often as you like in response to itself after using Lightning Greaves on another creature for example.

This deck is fantastic! +1 I like to finally see a good use for Platinum Angel . Might even build this myself, good work.

I really love this deck by the way, its literally amazing. I was just thinking, how do you handle a card with an effect like Stain the Mind which would just entirely get rid of Platinum Angel altogether? I assume just rely on countering it with Spellskite or Muddle the Mixture? I'm pretty new to Modern so I don't know if that kind of spell is used much...

@ALX

Thank you for your kind words! I've put a lot of thought into the deck to make it somewhat unique.

I literally went the way I mention in the description - pick the strongest effect and build around it. People really hate to see Platinum Angel hit the board.

Cards like Stain the Mind and Slaughter Games a really problematic... but I don't expect my opponent to have them mainboarded. So in the second game I might even get rid of angel alltogether and side in Blightsteel Colossus , more Muddle the Mixture s and maybe Cyclonic Rift . Playstyle can vary a lot this way.

Btw, Spellskite won't help against Stain the Mind as it is not targeted.

If you want to build this deck I could help you with interactions and combos if you like, because some of them are not trivial, but very important to be aware of when piloting the deck.

Thanks again for the props, you two made my day :D

Sideboards Are meanT to be oppressive in modern. Your 60 card deck should be the best and most efficient way to achieve your win con. Your sideboard is meant to hold cards that either solidify your wincon but are lightly slower than your mainboard, and cards that remove or disable your opponents disruption. With that being said, I also feel that a small portion of sideboard should be based off your local meta, if not your whole side. There's no point in putting ad nauseam sideboard defense against a meta where no one plays that deck. Maybe run stuff lIke Fabricate ( which should probably be mainboard), or cards such as Ensnaring Bridge .

Look at your meta, figure out what decks dominate it, and create a sideboard reflecting that.

@GoofyFoot

First of all, thanks for your analysis and for taking the time to comment!

I have the impression though you did not consider every part of this deck. Fabricate used to be in the deck, and got replaced by Treasure Mage . The reason for that is, that Fauna Shaman interacts with it in every possible way, and Muddle the Mixture can get me all my artifact 2-drops as well as Fauna Shaman . So I figured Fabricate was one dimensional in a sense, and now I have more options.

I wouldn't play Ensnaring Bridge as I need to get hit and drop to 0 life to win.

What I'm really afraid of is too much artifact hate, hand disruption and Karn Liberated . And maybe something I don't even have on my radar.

That being said, I think the general part of your analysis remains true.

:O

Couple problems: Slaughter Games , Supreme Verdict , Perilous Vault , then theres things like Erase to get rid of first your artifact that protects Platinum Angel ... While the chance is small that many people run those things in their mainboards, sideboards are made to deal with things that are made to be almost impossible to kill. While this deck will be sweet for game 1, but then games 2 and 3 you might get a bit screwed, as there is removal for un-removable things.

Besides those little flaws, this deck is beautiful. Its a work of art. <3.

sorry not Erase , things like Smelt

@nutellaisgreaterthanlife

I'm glad you like the deck! What you mention is not as problematic as you might think.

I can have Platinum Angel out as soon as turn 3, although thats not likely. Game 2, if I expect Slaughter Games , I'll just side out angel for Blightsteel Colossus . Against Supreme Verdict there's Darksteel Forge . And trust me, it's gonna be pretty difficult for my oppnent to resolve anything that spells "target" on it. Besides Lightning Greaves and Neurok Stealthsuit , there is Spellskite which eats targeted spells for breakfast. Also Master Transmuter 's own bounce ability can save every artifact from being targeted AND I can cast Chalice of the Void for , to counter one drops.

I agree, it looks pretty sweet. But there's always the chance that something bad happens, so I wouldn't place all my eggs in one basket (as in the only hope being Platinum Angel

Thank you! It is indeed very unusual and fun to play, no one knows what I'm doing when they first play against this deck.

Awesome name editing btw :D

Also congratulations, I think you provided the 100th upvote.

I was the 100th vote! haha

I saw the deck was at 99 upvotes and how cool the deck was so I couldn't resist.

Congratz on 100+ upvotes! :D

Why no Breeding Pool s? Also, +1 because I had to upvote your deck --- I just couldn't make you lose my vote. (Haha, you see what I did there, that Platinum Angel pun?)

@TheAnnihilator

Thanks for the upvote, feels good to win another one ;)

Breeding Pool has a couple downsides in my deck:

1) I already run a lot of nonbasics

2) I need to be able to adjust my life total more precisely and I need to be flexible when doing so. So breeding pool will either drain me too fast, or I won't be able to drain myself when I want to use Soul Conduit

@atlantis55555

Thanks for your suggestion!

Darksteel Plate is way too slow for 5 mana though... I need to be done by turn five and have to spend the mana elsewhere. Also, It's not really synergetic in this deck, so I'll stick with Lightning Greaves and Darksteel Forge .

I am impressed by this deck. It seems like it'd be a ton of fun to play and has answers for a lot of problems! +1 from me and keep coming up with great decks! Maybe give a shot at standard even? And thanks for the +1 on my deck, means a lot coming from someone who can make something like this.

November 3, 2014 12:56 p.m.

This deck looks like a lot of fun to play! also frustrating to face! Really like this! +1 from me

Blightsteel Colossus, Darksteel Forge... also Master Transmuter can save the angel before they die and assuming I'm still alive.

Also, Wurmcoil Engine is actually a really strong defender. It deathtouch trades, twice, as well as gives you life.
