This deck is named for two of its wincons: 1) Psychosis Crawler, and 2) Psychic Corrosion
HELP
1) I want another way (besides an eldrazi) to keep from drawing myself out, and hopefully something somewhat on theme. Repopulate is fantastic as I mainly have creatures in here and it's instant speed for responding to opponents tricks that might finish milling me.
2) I've got to remove 2 CARDS! I'm avoiding making this a hyper focused deck as we aren't a very competitive meta and I want some diverse play experience, so this leads to the challenge of removing cards without sacrificing diversity too much. I have an aversion to creating an entirely "linear" strategy deck as, yes it is more efficient and powerful, but it is only fun for the first few wins, then the play experience becomes repetitive for everyone. In contradiction, I also want redundency, for smooth game-play :). I'll have to find a compromise somewhere there. Open to ideas.
3)I'd love to find another way draw someone to death, building on the Psychosis theme.
I changed Freed from the Real to Pemmin's Aura, trading a instead of a in the casting in exchange for the option of Hexproof and evasion for a Mr.Bigs. Thanks to hkhssweiss for that idea, plus some input on cards to remove to bring this closer to 100!
My "Commander Tishana" Rant
Tishana, Voice of Thunder seems like she (everyone calls her a she, but her picture looks to me to be a male.. It's 2019 though, she can be whatever he wants!) has so much potential to me... Yet I mainly see her leading merfolk/elf tribal, which I feel is an unfortunate under-utilization of both creativity, and a legendary with so much value built in. Yes, Tishana IS made for many small creatures and racing into her high casting cost through mana dorks, then drawing cards for each of them to put us miles ahead... so, elves is the obvious way to go. However, I like using that idea just as a foundation, or the second ingredient of power fuel for a variety of engines and have a good handful of ideas for where she can go. I thought I'd share them here before getting into what I've built.
Note: Not all these will be completely "competitive", but I think each idea could be made effective and, most importantly, fun and engaging to play. If anyone wants to build one of these versions with me, let me know!
Being in Simic colours, the masters of +1/+1 counters (respect to Ghave, Guru of Spores of course), as well as having THE artifact colour, making mass creature tokens to keep the cards coming in, with Triskelavus, Hangarback Walker, Pentavus, Tetravus and utilizing greens token doublers? You also have things like Gilder Bairn, Hardened Scales Bioshift, Pir, Imaginative Rascal, Thrummingbird, Vorel of the Hull Clade. Then you could incorporate the likes ofTriskelion and Walking Ballista. Maybe Primeval Bounty?
I would like to, at one point, do a rebuild of this going the Isochron Scepter route. My current version of Tishana naturally has plenty of dorks and tapping value creatures, and so untap support. Add something like a Primal Amulet
and a variety of cheap value spells and you can probably do some nasty things. I don't have enough experience to cover any of those here, but I'm sure a little thought (or search) would reveal plenty to make it worth it. In this case, Tishana just offers great value for drawing into it all making use of all the small tapping creatures you have out.
My Current Version
I've included:
-
Psychic Corrosion for a little side mill strategy (which has already won a couple games - see combo examples under Psychosis Crawler as they do the work for both win-cons)
-
Psychosis Crawler for a big turn multi-kill ex: Myojin of Seeing Winds + a counter multiplier (to add divinity counters) for a multi-trigger, or one trigger from casting/flickering Whirpool Rider, Tishana or Prime Speaker Zegana. If I have lots of creatures and Greater Good, Tishana could be cast/flickered for big draw making her big, then sac'ed to greater good for big effect. Toothy could also be flickered or sac'd.
-
Big stompy strategy with Toothy, Imaginary Friend, Chasm Skulker, physchosis crawler, or Tishana herself. We then have evasion from Traveler's Cloak, Rogue's Passage, Hadana's Climb
flipped into Winged Temple of Orazka to help them get through.
-
Counter support such as Pir, Imaginative Rascal, Thrummingbird, Vorel of the Hull Clade, in order to ramp up the counter creatures such as Myojins, Toothy, Imaginary Friend & Chasm Skulker, Gyre Sage and Prime Speaker Zegana. I wanted Gilder Bairn in here but had to remove someone, and he was the weakest link. Witch Chasm Skulker ramped then sac'd to greater good, Tishana could be cast/flickered for mad draw!
-
Flash and other "cheat" engines such as Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir, Prophet of Kruphix, Elvish Piper, or Myojin of Life's Web (my dream partner for Myojin of Seeing Winds). I have Seahunter to cheat in:
-
-
-
- Reef Shaman to negate someone's power land (though this card is out for now, lands are becoming a problem in my meta
-
-
Untap, both "mass" with Quest for Renewal or Prophet of Kruphix (cut Seedborn Muse), and "singular" with Instill Energy, Pemmin's Aura, Kiora's Follower, Umbral Mantle or Fatestitcher. The singular untappers with the mana dorks and lands have led to infinite mana combos with cards like Growing Rites of Itlimoc
, Incubation Druid, Krosan Restorer or Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix. Note: As mentioned at the start, my playgroup only allow 3 (or more) card infinites. 2 card infinites can only go off once, so instead of putting a Pemmin's Aura on an adapted Incubation Druid, or a Mantle on a Kydele, I need to put it them on a Kiora's Follower. The untappers are also great with things like Vorel of the Hull Clade, Elvish Piper and Seahunter or Winged Temple of Orazka.
-
cheap utility creatures, providing protection (Plaxmanta or Prowling Serpopard), removal (Reclamation Sage and Beguiler of Wills), counter spells (Mystic Snake or Frilled Mystic), or otherwise such as Graceful Adept or Simic Guildmage. Simic Guildmage is in here for moving around the 3 enchantments I have in here due to their importance for infinites or making a monster unblockable in the case of Traveler's Cloak.
-
opportunities for big combo type turns, especially with (but far from limited to) the likes of Myojin of Life's Web (with lots of creatures in the deck) and Myojin of Seeing Winds (with the big triggers from drawing).
-
A little combo I'm particularly excited about is Greater Good + either a grip of cards and Tishana, Voice of Thunder, or a stacked Toothy, Imaginary Friend or Chasm Skulker. This means huge card advantage but also the ability to self-trigger either Toothy or Skulker, for more than double the amount of cards in the case of Toothy.
Maybe Adds
Lands
I wanted to go majority basics so we can use spells to thin the deck with cards like Boundless Realms and Harvest Season. I took these out as something must needed to be cut. I do think they'd help for rebuilding when I'm board wiped, need to recast Tishana and have all the card draw in the world.
More Psychological warfare
More erosion
Building on Psychic Corrosion, I could add Jace's Erasure
Beat people with a crazy stick
The idea here would be to add in some ways to hit people for milling.
Sword of Body and Mind is a little slower, but in combination with other milling it'll probably do some work.
Undead Alchemist (which would also get me large amounts of zombies which works with Tishana's etb) and Crosstown Courier. With evasion such as Traveler's Cloak or Rogue's Passage, I could use Bioshift to move large amounts of counters from on of my Mr.Bigs creatures.
Spellseeker could find Bioshift.
Trophy Mage could get Sword of Body and Mind (as well as Thousand-Year Elixir, Umbral Mantle, Lifecrafter's Bestiary.
