That’s a nice Krenko, Mob Boss deck you have there… it would be a shame if something were to happen to it. Tivadar of Thorn, the Goblin slayer himself plays the leading role of this mono white jank deck. Tivadar’s ability to murder goblins isn’t what we care about in this deck, it’s more of a situational perk. What we care about are his evergreen keywords: first strike, and protection from red.

The first time I showed up to my LGS to play commander I brought my Edgar Markov deck, and wouldn’t you know it, two other players in the pod were playing the same commander as me. In an effort to avoid such a phenomenon in the future I scoured the internet in search of some of the least played commanders. This is where I met my masked acquaintance Tivadar of Thorn. Let’s take a look at what me and Tivadaddy came up with when building his deck.

I’ve heard of people running a “secret commander,” usually a card which isn’t legal to be a commander because it isn’t a legendary creature, that more or less acts as the REAL commander of the deck. And so I asked Tavidar to step down and make Concerted Effort, our new top dawg. With this card and our commander we’re giving ever other creature we control first strike and pro red. Not bad eh? But how can we get concerted effort out reliably? Luckily mono white loves enchantments. Academy Rector, Enlightened Tutor, Idyllic Tutor,Moon-Blessed Cleric, and Plea for Guidance are our stand-in searcher uppers.

Cool, right? So now let’s protect our special little enchantment. Greater Auramancy, Blacksmith's Skill, Cosmic Intervention, and Rebuff the Wicked, are all coming to come in handy to protect and support our precious permanent. Even if it IS destroyed we have Auramancer, Hall of Heliod's Generosity, and Cavalier of Dawn, will help get that bad boy back if it comes down to it.

Alright, alright, but all that just to give other creatures first strike and pro red? Oh no, no, no. Let’s absolutely abuse Concerted Effort! We’re doubling, tripling, quadrupling down on protection form X effects. Let’s get wild and janky! This is EDH baby, and my main man Tivadar of Thorn always brings protection to a casual event—- you never know after all. Baneslayer Angel, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Itsune Riftwalker, Mistmeadow Skulk, Pristine Angel, Sigrid, God-Favored, even Elite Inquisitor! We are prepared for everything and anything!

Then we loaded up with fundamentals Condemn and Swords to Plowshares for removal. Secret Rendezvous and Wedding Ring to keep our hands filled. Some rocks for ramp, and we’re Gucci.

Is this deck any good? Yikes, uh, no.

But is it fun? Well, to quote Tivadar “I could only be having more fun if I were slaying goblins.”
