This is a budget version and also the first version of this deck which I'm sorry I can't seem to link for some reason so the URL is http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/04-04-19-to-infinity-and-beyond/ if you wish to check it out. The guide below to playing the decks are basically the same so I will leave as is to save time except for the small discrepancies.
A little backstory:
My thought was " I wonder if I can keep drawing my entire deck whilst being able to constantly untap
Marwyn, the Nurturer
? to just keep going up in mana? Well then I stumbled across a goldmine.
I recently found an interesting combo with
Umbral Mantle
and thought you know.. I could apply that to my own Elf deck with
Marwyn, the Nurturer
or
Elvish Archdruid
. With the combo and at least 4 elves on the battlefield, we have access to infinite mana. Now, the beast whisperers help us get some crazy amount of draw. And that's exactly what we want. But it's not what we need.
And now the actual story (keep in mind all of this can trigger as early as turn 4 with the right hand):
Genesis Wave
is the secret weapon here. With access to infinite mana, we can draw the entire deck quite literally. The only thing that won't make it is the other sorcery's you haven't drawn yet but...meh. We have a solution for that later.
Now, it's go time. Elves everywhere, too many lands to count (though you'll want to because >), a 20/20
Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar
and they all have hexproof, flying, first strike, vigilance, trample, haste and protection from black and red thanks to
Asceticism
and
Akroma's Memorial
. But wait, there's also an
Imperious Perfect
and a
Golgari Guildmage
because infinite mana isn't enough so why not go ahead and add infinite 1/1 Elf Warriors and make all of your creatures have infinite power and toughness. With all these infinite resources, it can seem like having a house and no ceiling. 20 life points (minus whatever you lost in the turns leading up to this) is a number symbol that we JUST DON'T WANT! So let's make that infinite too with
Staff of Domination
. I would have preferred more copies of this but given that
Umbral Mantle
is about a 5th of the cost, I have decent card draw, and I can still get one out to do some dirty work (tap the opponents creatures if you really want to), it wasn't quite as necessary to spend that much.
Now I hear you, "WHAT ABOUT A BOARD WIPE MONKEYSIT?!?!" Well, I got you fam. First point of defence is
Asceticism
and not for the hexproof, but for the regenerate creature text with, you guessed it, infinite mana. But if they somehow get through that, if they somehow manage to destroy every creature, or every artifact, that's what the two copies of
Creeping Renaissance
are sitting in your graveyard for with the juicy flashback text sitting on it. If this happens to occur during the combat phase after mana drains away due to phasing through to another step, you should have plenty of land to be able to activate everything and build up your board again for the exact same scenario.
oh.. and one copy of
Elvish Champion
to make those infinitely powerful infinite elves infinitely unblockable if the opponent controls a forest too just because.. why would I bother making it any sort of easy. And
Vivien Reid
is here just in case we would need to make use of her -3 ability.
BE WARNED - do NOT draw into your entire deck using the Staff because
Beast Whisperer
will mill you to death if it has hit the battlefield before getting your infinite combo. I suggest instead drawing until you hit a
Genesis Wave
to draw out the rest of your deck and put straight onto the battlefield to avoid any draw triggers. The very final part to this is the one copy of
Elvish Piper
. This is to allow you to put the rest of your creatures in your hand onto the battlefield without triggering the
Beast Whisperer
. If the Piper is drawn out from the
Genesis Wave
, then combo it to get the creatures out. If the Piper is in your hand before casting the Genesis, cast it first and let it hit the battlefield so that when the Beast triggers, you have a card in your library to draw from.
And there you have it. Most of what you see in this deck is extremely purposeful and some is what was left over from my original elf tribal deck which was a much more typical elf deck but just fit in well enough with the theme. If you wish to spend some money, feel free to check out my vintage legal deck deck:To Infinity.. AND BEYOND! and it will show you how to make the deck tighter with less likely mulligans. But I think I have managed to make something that I don't think I've seen before or at least isn't quite as common. But in either case, any tips, comments or kind suggestions, feel free to leave a comment. If you infinitely enjoy this, leave a +1 infinitely.
