I Was Gonna Build This As Chulane, But Then I Got High

Having come from relatively humble background (and being an unremarkable child), Tobias became a legendary duelist, famed for his proficiency with the sword and his ability to defeat even 'obviously superior' opponents through skill and talent. Like all do, he grew to be middle aged. He could still fight well, but it became clear to him and others that he had other talents that were more valuable, so he progressed until he became the leader of the entire military of an empire, using both his charisma and mental acuity to surpass all others. Tobias uses both armies (tokens) and various special agents (of all genders!) to gain advantage and take control of the board, but arguably his spies and political connections get more done in most games. Most of the agents are specialists and the armies tend to be small, yet time and again Tobias came to triumph. As he grew older still a new passion emerged, and in what little spare time he had he designed machines, both magical and mundane, enabling his empire to grow stronger still. Fly Like Paper Get High Like Planes (Tobias' Little Helper) Show

Tobias developed a... shall we say Chronic problem after becoming middle aged, and was surprised to discover that when he let loose, he developed psychic abilities, not especially strong, but enough to enable instantaneous communication regardless of distance, though only with people he has already formed a bond with in some fashion. The communication is like a whispered voice, meaning it isn't disruptive to working agents, which are the people Tobias mostly uses his psychic abilities with. This enables more effective management of his spies and enforcers, as well as the diplomats and politicians that help manage the civilian aspects of the Empire.

So I can Read Your Mind, No Lie

Tobias had always been a bit of a ladies man, it came with the territory as a champion of single combat, both armed and unarmed. As his psychic abilities improved, he used them to become a whispered about legend in certain circles of Sheoltun for his ability to somehow know exactly what was working, and what was secretly desired. This further ensconced him in the upper echelons of society, and helped aide in his quest for power, both military and political.

The Loosest of Primers Show

Yeah, so I think I was supposed to make Chulane, but then I got high, and we ended up with Tobias Andrion, and I think this is probably what we deserve. This is my 'Order from Chaos' deck, wherein the seemingly vanilla shmuck (that's secretly a genius) uses a variety of stax effects, and evasive creatures (and payoffs for them) alongside brutal interaction to eek out wins despite seeming to be a much weaker deck. The deck is meant to have the flavour of an infinitely resourceful genius, one part Machiavelli and one part Da Vinci, maybe a little Sherlock Holmes, Tobias often has sneaky plays. Thus, the deck can make deals with one or more players that aren't just words, uses the odd fancy vehicle to good effect, and benefits from being very easy to underestimate, combining a non-threatening boardstate with pillowfort to make attacking me look like a bad play most of the time.

I suspect this will be a decent deck to play vs unknown playgroups, as it doesn't do anything nuts (it has synergies, but isn't going infinite), and tends to have lots of weenies at best, leaning hard on stealing or copying whatever is good. Thus, the deck isn't very high power in terms of hitting especially hard, but it scales well, and can use politics to gain advantage. It is also a fairly 'fun' deck to play with and against, as long as I'm not being massacred.

This deck is a control deck, one that tries to dictate the board state, having tons of removal/interaction on a stick. It draws cards in a few ways, and it is running more card draw than ever. It does not run very many counters, trying to keep them a niche rather than a primary game plan. Creatures that can blow up an attacker can protect anyone being attacked, so in addition to dictating board states to an extent, it can also discourage attacking vs certain players while allowing people to swing at the others.

Leaning into the genius strategist theme, this deck features lots of asymmetrical effects that can really ruin a given player's day. Mass Diminish is probably the most extreme example (this can remove two players in some situations), but there is a great deal of versatility in this deck's ability to find solutions. It likes to get out the Stadium and win off of that with Shadows and Flyers, but there is also Parhelion II that can threaten a win off of Tobias's 4 power, the Rhino Army In My Pocket can go reasonably wide, and the deck can technically just go wide enough via tokens and weenies to win sometimes. Generally this deck is trying to make a friend out of an enemy, help keep both players alive until it gets to 1v1, then this deck can judo it's way to a win. It's a big brain deck, where winning requires subtlety and politics rather than brute force, but those political words are backed up with considerable actionability. I think it's pretty safe to call this jank still, it just has the tricks that might let it win games.
