Toggo Throws Rocks

Toggo loves throwing rocks at people's faces!

I initially wanted to do something with Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith since i thought his ability was just dumb fun i mean he literally makes rocks and throws it at people, what's not to like right?

As a way to make him work better and stick to the rock throwing theme i wanted, i paired him up with Kodama of the East Tree to double up on the value from getting free rocks by placing lands into play, triggering more rocks.

Along the way i noticed that Kodama's interaction with Toggo was more than just dumb fun/value and had the opportunity to combo off with a bounce land such as Gruul Turf or Guildless Commons , thus creating infinite rocks which is exactly the fantasy i had in mind for the deck.

The initial thought was to get creatures with infect (or things that give creatures infect), equip them with rocks, throw the rocks at your opponents for infect damage and win through that.

I tried to get a good balance of ramp, landfall abilities, untappers to throw more rocks and infect abilities. I ended up with an absolute ton of ramp which isn't that bad for a gruul deck IMO.

Completely on accident, the primary win-con ended up being the bounce land combo with both commander's out that i mentioned earlier. I'll explain the combo real quick: 1. Have Kodama of the East Tree and Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith on the battlefield 2. Play Gruul Turf or Guildless Commons either as your land for turn or through a different card effect such as Crop Rotation or something similar. 3. Playing Gruul turf triggers Kodama, Toggo and Gruul turf. Order the stack by putting Kodama's ability first, then Toggo and finally Gruul turf 4. Gruul turf's trigger will resolve, bouncing itself back to your hand 5. Toggo's ability will trigger, creating a rock token 6. Kodama's ability will trigger, allowing you to place Gruul turf onto the battlefield 7. Repeat steps 3-6 for infinite rocks or other effects such as any of the landfall abilities, Reckless Fireweaver or just tapping the gruul turf for mana if you have Amulet of Vigor (Note i took out amulet of vigor for now since i want get the deck and was looking for things to make it just a tad cheaper)

Obviously this doesn't necessarily win the game on its own unless you have anything that triggers off of the rocks or gruul turf entering, but either way you'll have infinite rocks and i think that is the best thing to have.

Some of the other win-cons in the deck are; -Obviously the infect wincon, which i want to close out games with if i can. Just equip creatures that have infect with some rocks and throw the rocks at your opponents. - Lodestone Myr does work since even if the rocks are equiped, they can still be tapped like any artifact. - Reckless Fireweaver also works in the aforementioned combo but is a powerful card in this deck on his own since he pings all our opponents everytime we play any artifact or even land. - Valduk, Keeper of the Flame can also be used in the same way as Lodestone Myr by just equiping rocks to him and smashing face with him.

Now the primary issue in stoning people to death, is the fact that the creature has to tap in order to throw the rock. Of course throwing a rock at a player is no easy job, but we can make it easier for our creatures to throw rocks by using effects such as Staff of Domination or Quirion Ranger to untap the creatures, allowing them to throw more rocks.

One of the glaring issues of the deck is the fact that equiping rocks costs mana, and you can only equip at instant speed. There is a card that fixes this issue, namely Hammer of Nazahn . The hammer's effect is insanely strong because of it automatically equiping the rocks, it allows you to throw rocks at your opponents faces for half the cost. Value!!

As for the ramp package, i'm running a standard package for land based decks that make use of strong lands with things like Scapeshift , Tempt with Discovery or Crop Rotation . Other ramp spells include Kodama's Reach effects (which is also a complete flavor win in this deck) and allowing us to play multiple lands such as Exploration or Minda and Denn, Wildborn. One of the strongest early plays/ramp there is in the deck is a Burgeoning . A turn 1 Burgeoning is almost always backbreaking for your opponents because of the mana advantage it gives, but it doesn't stop there in this deck. I have included effects such as Ghost Town and Mina and Denn, Wildborn that allow me to return a land to my hand. This effect can be used with the burgeoning trigger on the stack, effectively giving me infinite value off of burgeoning.

The only other things that are in the deck are obvious inclusions such as Sylvan Library or Worldly Tutor for card advantage, Chaos Warp and Vexing Shusher for interaction/protection, Basilisk Collar which gives our rocks lifelink and deathtouch allowing the rocks to one-shot creatures and finally the recursion cards such as Splendid Reclamation , Life from the Loam or Ramunap Excavator Incase anything happens to our lands.

I'd love to hear any feedback/upgrades you can think of for the deck, since i really like the deck idea and would love to make it more synergistic. I have a few cards in my sideboard that are excluded mostly because of budget reasons/i couldn't think of something to replace them with. Finally the Maybeboard were cards that i had in the deck in the first draft, but ended up taking out because they were either redundant, or just not good enough to make it into the final 100 cards.
