Well I don't know exactly what is in that event deck, so if you could give me the run down of what he or she has in the deck currently as well as what cards you think can go in the deck that you already have and I would be happy to tell you what I think and help you however I can with the deck!

Here is list of the deck http://magic.wizards.com/en/content/modern-event-deck.

We already have 4 path to exile, 3 inquisition of Kosilek, another Elspeth, Knight-Errant, all 8 of the Souls sisters and 3 Monastery Mentor

If you are looking to make improvements but keep it at a budget, I would take out the Shrines in favor of something like Brimaz, King of Oreskos or Secure the Wastes. Sorin, Solemn Visitor is a must include, and I would go down or completely take out Windbrisk Heights for Concealed Courtyard and Shambling Vent, or if you can't obtain those, try Temple of Silence.

Ok Mr Binks, its time for you to give us Gideon of the trials in this deck.

No excuses! With all those tokens we can protect them Gideons for days and the emblem just kills combo decks.

I admire your enthusiasm, however, I have contemplated the inclusion of Gideon of the Trials, and it just isn't worth it. It does not add to our token plan, and though we can protect it from combat damage pretty consistently, it dies far too easily to a lot of popular removal. Cards like Abrupt Decay, Maelstrom Pulse, and can be removed with Path to Exile if we turn him into a creature.

I'll keep my eye on the card, but for now, I don't see why it would be worth the inclusion in our deck. Thank you for the suggestion, though!

You need to try Anointed Procession ZackBinks! The only things I can see against it is that it does come online on turn four, so you have already created a load of tokens. Definitely a good sideboard card though.

The only thing is, against what matchups would it be a good thing to side in? It is far too slow for a mainboard inclusion, as I wouldn't get any value from it until turn 4 at the most, and thats only if I have a token producing planeswalker on the field beforehand. So it wouldn't produce any value consistently until turn 5 at the earliest.

Thanks for the suggestion as always, though!

God I love Auriok Champion here. Great card and just a nice bullet against Death's Shadow. And I didn't see what I'm about to "suggest" in the cards you advise against section, so with that said do you have an opinion on Smuggler's Copter here?

April 29, 2017 3:56 p.m.

ZackBinks says... #9

I agree completely!

As far as Copter goes, I have been meaning to include that into the "Advise Against" section, so thank you for reminding me. I have tested Copter back when I saw it was doing well in standard (before the standard banning, of course). While it does cover one of the deck's weaknesses, which is a lack of card draw, it doesn't really add much more to the deck to warrant an inclusion. Since we have so little in the way of protecting it, it would be very vulnerable in our deck to cards like Kolaghan's Command and Abrupt Decay.

However, that is not to say that it is a bad card, far from it. It just isn't able to live up to its full potential in our deck. In contrast, Copter has greatly improved Blue-Black Faeries. It gives the deck more card draw, a solid beater, and can be protected with their counter spells.

Thank you for the suggestion! I hope I was able to explain myself enough!

Also, is four fastlands (Concealed Courtyard) advisable in a deck with 24 lands?

April 29, 2017 7:26 p.m.

ZackBinks says... #11

Absolutely, it gives my life total a much needed break. Automatic four of.

So this is a modified version of the "Modern" event deck for the most part with added Thoughtseize, dual lands, and planeswalkers that didn't come with the set? I have the modern event deck, so this is worth trying out. It won't end up costing an arm and a leg either.

ZackBinks says... #13

I suppose you could classify it as that, though it does seem like a very large oversimplification. The Event Deck doesn't have any of the Blossoms, Pushes, Courtyards, and other cards that really make the deck shine. You could get a feel for the deck by using the event deck, but it will underperform often because of some lackluster cards that were included in the event deck.

How do you feel about Rootborn Defenses? Does the 3 cmc make it not worth including since Selfless Spirit does essentially the same for 1 less?

I couldn't have said it better myself!

PickleNutz says... #16

Yeah, I knew you had added things that were better than what the event deck had in it. I didn't mean to sound like I was cutting the deck short, I was just asking about what was different because I have the modern event deck and have never even used it really. I actually have a few of the cards you added here laying around also, so I might try this out and get back to you on how it did against my friends. The only problem though, they all run token decks too. Zombie tokens and artifact servo or golem tokens. Will this be able to keep up?

May 21, 2017 8:32 p.m.

ZackBinks says... #17

Oh no I took no offense.

I would have to see lists to give you a fair evaluation on your matchups, but from a purely surface level standpoint, my list in particular has no problem with any of these. Now if it was a Zombie Tribal deck, things would be a bit harder.

May 21, 2017 10:24 p.m.

I've had some pretty great success running 1-2 Anguished Unmaking in the 75 in my tokens build (currently 1 MD and 1 SB). I consider it the Maelstrom Pulse of BW. I think you could try it in place of at least 1 Dismember to help control opposing PW's as well as pesky non-creature permanents. What are your thoughts on it? I can also second that Collective Brutality is great as a SB option or a MD 1-of.

Your list looks solid, would you mind checking out my tokens deck on my page and giving me some feedback?

July 6, 2017 3:38 p.m.

ZackBinks says... #20

Certainly! From what I saw, the list is rather interesting, a big planeswalker presence is a fascinating take on the deck. Your land base is a bit light, however, so I would drop the two Raise the Alarm for two more lands, and incorporate fetchlands in the deck once you have acquired them.

I have been playing tokens for around 4 years now and have always loved it. However I have to say lately I have gotten increasingly frustrated with the deck. The Eldrazi tron matchup is jut down right awful (Very popular meta deck at my store). But none the less i have found your rationalizing and seeing the comments in this feed have reinvigorated my interest in trying to push forward with my favorite deck in modern.
