Wow. I've never played edh, but this deck seems extremely fun to play. Mind if I make a copy and make it a bit easier for me, as I am just starting? +1.

Okay, your deck looks extremely fun to play, and at $114, it's low budget for a Commander deck. I came across Phelddagrif today, and knew I wanted to build it. This might be my first net deck ever, but it looks so fun.

I will say that AEtherize might be a better option over spouts for the CMC, but that's a minor fix

I also noticed that your green mana base is almost exactly even with the mana requirements, while your blue lags far behind what it's mana costs are. Is it just because you need the green early game? Also, Simic Charm is one of the edits I've made so far as I am making slight modifications to this. I took out Might of Oaks, since I didn't quite understand it's purpose in a deck that draws people to death.

Thanks man! I appreciate it! I'll just explain my reasoning for my card choices, feel free to say any counterpoints as I am trying to make this deck the best that I can make it
I chose AEtherspouts over AEtherize as this deck has enough drawing power and ramp to not have to worry too much about the cmc. The best part about it is that the attacking person has to choose whether they want to wait a few turns to get their creatures back, or just not see them again. Another useful thing about it is that if they put their creatures on top, that's a few turns that I know they aren't going to topdeck something other than a creature, and I could make them shuffle their commander into their library with some sort of land search spell. Simic Charm is definitely a good control card, but I'd need to make room for it and at the moment there's other cards I'd want to have in before it.
I have Might of Oaks and Strength of Cedars as alternate win conditions, so if somebody else is using Elixir of Immortality or the like, then Skyscribing, Windfall and Prosperity will not work properly. If this happens, then I can use Phelddagrif to attempt to go for the kill. The initial idea was that I would attack once with the hippo near the start of the game and let the person gain back 4 life, so they would just think I was being silly, and then I would be able to attack later and play Might of Oaks and Enlarge to deal lethal damage. It's really just an alternate win condition for people that have answers to card draw, plus it can also be used pretty well for diplomacy. I'll consider removing them though, as people might not like that I have pure win condition cards in the deck

And yeah that was my reasoning with the mana, also I figure that I will need a larger amount of white than the mana requirements so that I can play my commander semi-reliably

That makes sense. I'm going to tinker with it a little bit, and see where it goes, but I have your original list here, so if it isn't working, I can change it back. I do think that Selvala, Explorer Returned could be a great inclusion. Also, if you're worried about card draw, Fascination can be a great way to force the mill of an Elixir of Immortality perhaps? It looks more like a mill card, but you can always pretend you're only using it for draw until someone plays Elixir.

Great idea! I haven't looked at the latest cards, Fascination actually an awesome card, I'll look for a place to put it in. And Selvala, Explorer Returned is a very good card, but for some reason I don't like Parley, I guess I think it's too unreliable but it still lets everyone draw a card even if you don't get mana from it, so I'll definitely consider her

Alright I put Fascination in the maybeboard for now because tappedout doesn't recognize Fate Reforged cards yet, so it says the deck is "Illegal in EDH"

Yes, that is always the struggle with new cards. I find it interesting that you removed Jace's Archivist for Selvala. I would feel like that would almost be a win-con for you at times. Is it just to further the Group Hug feel?
I am truly invested in this because I'm extremely excited to build this, or my slightly altered version of it. I have literally never net-decked before, but I've never been as stoked about a card as I am about Phelddagrif. Thank you so much for giving me a basis from which to work.

buildingadeck Yeah I took it out for that reason, the thing is that at the time that it is useful everyone is going to have hella card draw, so they will probably have the ability to eliminate me if I make it look like I'm going to win (Since it has summoning sickness and everything, plus it is pretty easy to kill)
Hey, no problem! I just hope it works as well for you as it did for me, it's completely different from anything I've seen in Magic, and it introduces a new idea to the game that I never realized before I made the deck

Gotcha. I may have to sub in something else in there for it. My version is very similar with a few minor edits.
Yes, that's why I like it; it's a strategy I've never played before that is similar to TurboFog without the endless fogs. Lol

Increasing Confusion is probably what I'll put in instead.

I too am fully invested in this deck. It is absolutely amazing and everything I wanted to do when I first discovered EDH a month ago. I appreciate you guys bouncing ideas off each other because I am basically getting all these cards and making a huge sideboard to test it out. I wish I had more ideas to contribute but I lack a lot of knowledge when it comes to this game, especially new cards, but what about Norn's Annex in place of Propaganda or Ghostly Prison? Also, I am not a big fan of Rainbow Vale, I understand the group hug aspect but it slows down your own board. What about Spectral Searchlight?

Norn's Annex was originally im the deck, but i realized that if somebody wants to kill me, they will pay the life either way. I chose the prison because sometimes if the person wants to attack me they will have to refrain from casting certain spells. To be honest i am taking most of the pillow fort cards out so ghostly prison might leave the list soon
Rainbow Vale might seem bad, but from my experience what usually happens is that i give a player the land, and on their turn they give it back to me, so for me there isnt too much downside to un until it becomes a 1v1 (and at that point your land base should be pretty high). I do see your point, but i think that Spectral Searchlight would be pretty slow if I were to actually use it to give somebody else mana, ill consider it though as it could work differently in practice, and it is definitely a more reliable mana source than the land

Feel free to play around with the deck though! When i bought the deck i made sure to get extra cards to switch out and test, also feel free to copy the deck and make some changes as well, just mention my name in the description or something

That is a really good point about them giving it back to you. That might be enough for me to put it back in the deck. I picked up a Rupture Spire and Transguild Promenade to test out in case i like that better. It is more selfish but with the other boosts I can't be hated that much. There is another card that bothers me a little, Sheltering Ancient, isn't that creature just a ticking time bomb of death for you?
January 28, 2015 12:24 p.m.
buildingadeck says... #25
Sheltering Ancient can easily be manipulated politically to balance the power between the players. I had a mishap today with Tempting Wurm. Playing it on turn 2 is a mistake; don't do this. Then again, in the later part of the game, it could be bad, too, when your opponents have 30 cards in hand... Has it ever caused you trouble?

DERPLINGSUPREME Chaos Orb would be great in this, but I don't really want to have to add that much cost to the deck...
