Creature (3)

Sorcery (4)

A modern blue/white Spirit tribal tempo deck.

This deck wins the game by slowing down its opponent down with removal and counter-spells while placing efficient spirit creatures on the battlefield to hit the opponent.

Tips:

  • Think of Remand like a card-draw spell first and a counter-spell second. You do need a spell to target in order to cast it though.
  • If you really need a basic land, it's not really that bad of an idea to cast Path to Exile on one of your own small creatures like Mausoleum Wanderer.
  • If you manage to get two Drogskol Captains out at the same time, all of your creatures will be hexproof!
  • With Rattlechains on the battlefield, all of your spells can be cast at instant speed. This is a really fun way to play the game, as often you can just do combat on your turn and do everything else on your opponent's turns.

Other Cards to Consider:

  • Before I put 3x Snapcaster Mage in the deck, I had 3x Phantasmal Image. Both of these creatures have a good place in this deck, but sometimes I miss playing a Phantasmal Image into play as a copy of Drogskol Captain and then just hitting my opponent hard with my Hexproof team of ghosts. Snapcaster definitely adds to the control and tempo elements of the deck, and in the end he's probably the better choice.
  • As of the release of Ixalan, Opt is now legal in Modern! This deck loves instant speed. For now, I'm going to replace all copies of Serum Visions with Opt. We'll see how that goes.
