The deck aims at quickly putting in play several effects that tax players with damage for doing even simple things, such as tapping lands. The Commander then turns these effects into quite an oppressive board state by increasing the damage output.

These "burn taxes" also constitute a first line of defense, as the opponents will have to decide if making a certain move is worth taking the damage. Removal, board wipes and equipments giving Shroud/Hexproof complete the defensive portion of the deck.

The ramp section - particularly in the form of playing additional basic lands - is also quite strong and the deck aims at exploiting Valakut (which can be tutored by Expedition Map).

Several wheel and impulsive draw effects round up the deck to make sure it does not run out of gas.
