This is really interesting! Gonna keep it in mind when I start building my own Kroxa deck. I love that you used Last One Standing , it's sort of a pet card of mine and I think should see more play.

It's a strange deck, so it's hard to form a proper opinion until seeing it played, but I definitely think it looks cool. Makes me excited to get my own built!

(Also, I'm now gonna have to picture Kroxa shouting "feed me" in Audrey II's voice every time I cast him haha)

This deck absolutely deserves an upvote for its name; Little Shop of Horrors is one of my favorite stage musicals, and, with that name it is very unfortunate that Phytohydra cannot be put into it.

DemonDragonJ: Thanks! It's tragic I can't run Phytohydra , but at least I can run Stitcher's Supplier (feed her dead things), Painful Quandary (moral difficulties between fame and the right choice!), and Victimize (what happens to anyone who gets in Seymour's way).

It's a stretch, I know, but still XD

I will build this deck just because Little Shop is one of my favorite musicals of all time, nevermind how much I love Kroxa.

Spicy! I'm considering building one of my own and this was great inspiration =)

Personally, I would consider adding Angrath, the Flame-Chained coz of his solid plus and bomb ult, but what do I know

Whirlwind_2100: I was considering Angrath here, but I'm not sure I can protect him well enough for him to reach his ult, since Kroxa has to swing to get his trigger...

Yeah...one activation for five mana isn't ideal, however cards like Stitcher's Supplier , Golgari Thug and Big Game Hunter are solid chumps once you get their etb trigger.

Waste Not can make a ton of blockers, plus you'll probably have tutored for Waste Not in the earlier turns, which means by the time you curve into angrath, you will most likely have 3-4 zombies. Either way, this is the ideal situation, so angrath is still very debatable.

If I was to put Angrath, the Flame-Chained , I would consider cutting Last One Standing . Reason i say this is that unless you can get an early Waste Not , your board will be fairly small,a nd you'll most likely only have Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger out, making that 8/8 Uril, the Miststalker even more liley to stick around while you cry in a corner.

Not only that, but if you wanted a one sided board wipe, just use In Garruk's Wake , and even as a generic board wipe, Damnation is always a good choice.

Alright; thanks for reading =)

Whirlwind_2100: In all seriousness, I should test Angrath. But I feel like Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip might be better in that slot -- I can play her, drop Kroxa and let him self-sacrifice, then flip her and get a token. Her +2 is pretty great, and both of her minus abilities are brutal.

I really don't want to pay 9 mana for a board wipe, though. (And if I did, Decree of Pain is my go-to.) Last One Standing isn't really meant to deal with one huge voltron threat, it's meant to be a very low-cmc answer to a large number of distinct mid-sized threats.

Daedalus19876 I totally agree. Maybe i've just had some rough experiences with Last One Standing in the past, but you bring up a valid point. Regarding the board wipe, I feel you should give Damnation a shot, as hopefully you hit some early ramp, which makes it a whole lot more viable.

It shouldn't hurt to essentially have a higher costed lili that has a bonkers ult that will ate the very least eat a Utter End or another removal spell which makes way for Kroxa.

I played this deck yesterday irl with a proxy Kroxa, and I slotted in angrath, and i didn't feel too underwhelmed. He got some work done, and I would certainly try to find a slot for him. If you don't want to cut Last One Standing maybe consider cutting Key to the City .

I know it's a solid card, but being two mana down on your untap without that much ramp doesn't seem very ideal, but I guess getting to discard and draw a additional card seems deece.

Another card to consider would be Rotting Regisaur . Lets you discard cards to Kroxa's escape, plus a 7/6 body as soon as turn 2 can be huge in battering down player's life totals for Kroxa to make short work of the rest of the table.

Kinda off topic, but what do you think of Dragonlord Dromoka stax/hatebears/pillowfort?

I'd say you want to add Blade of Selves , Azra Oddsmaker , and Cavalier of Flame from the maybeboard in exchange for Sewer Nemesis , Final Parting , and Rotting Rats . Maybe find space for Megrim -like effects as well? Also, I like Codex Shredder over Wand of Vertebrae as it can mess with top-of-the-library tutors, get something back in a pinch, and turn a Vampiric Tutor into another Entomb. Sweet deck!

ThoAlmighty: Thanks! I've been on the fence regarding Blade of Selves here -- it doesn't help with much beyond my commander, but it's great with him.

Is Azra Oddsmaker that good without any real evasion in the deck? I've never run him personally.

And I've wanted to use Cavalier of Flame here, but it's a little awkward -- lands are usually some of the first things that get exiled to Kroxa's escape, and Neheb does the voluntary looting much better.

I'm not a huge fan of Megrim style effects -- they quickly lose value as you strip opponents' hands.

And I'm running both Codex Shredder and Wand of Vertebrae ! Redundancy, yay :)

Thanks for your thoughts!

Whirlwind_2100: I initially cut Damnation because I didn't want to pay the $30, but that's fair. I'll look for a slot.

I think Dragonlord Dromoka would be a decent stax/pillowfort/hatebears commander, but I think that Anafenza, the Foremost might be even better ;)

January 12, 2020 2:59 p.m.

LivingThing says... #17

Interesting you say that! The reason i'm not sure of choosing Anafenza is because her ability really only shuts down yard decks and Dromoka seems to shut down control builds and not let any player really interact with you.

Daedalus19876 says... #18

Whirlwind_2100: The bigger thing, to me, is that Anafenza cuts off death triggers. No Protean Hulk , no Meren experience, et cetera. But all hatebear lists depend on your personal meta.

One thought I had is with our Commander Escaping so much, why not add Warstorm Surge as that would help us damage our opponent's lifepoints without even attacking
