Hey! Not sure if it was considered but.. Sanctum of Eternity ?

RobsJourney: Yes, it's doing fantastic work! It's definitely getting more streamlined, I'm excited for where it'll end up.

TheBooman: I'm just concerned about the CMC versus the value I get out of the card. This deck runs essentially no ramp, but this does mean that it has some occasional trouble with casting high-CMC cards.

GreenHamma: It's doing great so far :D my favorite thing I've built since Yawgmoth, haha!

Profet93: Hazoret's Monument is actually working great in testing, but I do want to fit Tome of Legends in... Maybe over Sheoldred? She never really gets played these days.

CoolCat7271: Mmmm, Kroxa really doesn't want to be cast from hand. He dies immediately, and while Sanctum can save him, at that point I'm just paying 5 mana each turn for a single discard trigger.

Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate your thoughts :D

I agree with your swap idea. Consistent card draw over having to discard sheoldred and then get a reanimation spell. Breaking parity is always key the more I play against Kroxa.

Profet93: If the goal is consistent card draw, is this finally a deck where Phyrexian Arena pulls its weight?

That is my thought process, yes sir!

I'm probably missing something but I don't think Worldgorger Dragon fits in with the deck all that well and should be swapped out for a better value

xander11: ...Yeah, take a quick look at the infinite combos section :) Worldgorger Dragon combo lines are this deck's primary wincon, haha. It's like saying "cut Protean Hulk out of a Hulk Flash list".

Ahh yeah sorry I missed that, I'll try making a better comment for ya

So after a good look over the deck and the spoilers I have no idea how to improve the deck is a terrifying monster that looks amazing

Is Worldgorger Dragon the only real way to win?

February 11, 2020 7:33 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #11

RobsJourney: It's the primary way to win, but the deck can also kill through several jankier Underworld Breach loops into a large number of Kroxa activations (in the worst case, it takes 21 Kroxa triggers to kill people if they have full hands of zero land and 40 life). It's also perfectly viable to beat people to death with Kroxa, if combo lines don't work for whatever reason, or drain them with Syr Konrad, the Grim.

...or, in really corner cases, I've killed people with Rakdos Charm. Hehehe.

I really like this decklist, and used it as a guide for my own Kroxa deck. I swapped in some cards like Coffin Queen and Lifeline to try and maximize ETB triggers and force overreactions from the control players. Coffin Queen can work as a counter to reanimator style decks that just discard creatures when you make them discard.

shade_o_mirth: Lifeline is very, very dangerous -- careful playing that card, it can easily get you killed. Coffin Queen isn't a bad idea, though! I have an extra in my binder that I could test with...

My playgroups tend to be more casual, and I enjoy how Lifeline can make things get out of hand. For me, playing R/B is about creating chaos and not caring about if it gets you taken out of the game.

Any suggestions on how to make this deck budget-friendly while still being optimal (i.e what to switch out, what are possible cuts etc.)? (aside from the manabase as lands are holding most of the expensive cards haha)

Daedalus19876 says... #16

mz_reddy: Well let’s see. Most of the deck is pretty inexpensive. You can cut everything above $10 or $15 apart from Dockside (he’s important). You’d lose the Top/Citadel line, but honestly they’re not SUPER needed. I’d replace the removed stuff with more targeted discard and a few more ramp artifacts, maybe Unearth for another Kroxa trigger. The lands can be replaced by basics or tap lands — be careful with this, the deck is very color hungry. I might go up a land or two to make up for the reduced color fixing.

Hope that helps! :)

What about Past in Flames? You have a fair amount of self mill and instants/sorceries.

Daedalus19876 says... #18

mccabej140: The issue is that I don't have enough mana to really chain spells, after paying 4 or 5 mana for it. I'd rather just run another tutor to grab Underworld Breach here.

I've built a version of this deck myself and I've noticed that Bottomless Pit can sometimes force me to discard important combo pieces that are hard to recur. Is this just a risk of the card or do you have a way around this? I'm considering swapping in Necrogen Mists. Also, Wishclaw Talisman is a card to consider if you haven't already.

February 26, 2020 3:23 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #20

mccabej140: Bottomless Pit can be a little dangerous, yeah. I wouldn't necessarily cast it if I have an absolutely critical combo piece in hand. But it also massively screws with our opponents (they all have the same problem, where it can decimate their combos or hit their lands), and for that reason I prefer it over Necrogen Mists. I'd go with personal preference on this one -- but I think Rakdos is best when it's built in a risky way ;)

Regarding Wishclaw Talisman -- hard pass. We want to actively avoid our opponents getting unconditional tutors, especially since they'll always tutor for a draw source and undo all our hard work.

What is the purpose of Uba Mask ? Is it to force our opponents to either use their drawn cards immediately or lose em?

February 27, 2020 6:55 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #22

BubbRubb4Real: It keeps them from refilling their hand, and gives draw spells limited utility. Chains of Mephistopheles would be a better choice, and synergize better with the rest of my deck, but... the price-tag is prohibitive.

Daedalus19876 I gotcha! I actually bought the cards to make this deck and got to play test it with my play group tonight. I feel like once I get the synergies of the deck it’ll be a strong deck. It was fun to pilot!

So kudos to you for making a good deck!

BubbRubb4Real: I'm glad I could inspire you to try the list! It's really fun to pilot, I agree :) Let me know if you discover any issues, good combo lines, vulnerabilities, etc -- more people playtesting is always better :)

Daedalus19876 Yeah man I'll let you know. I only switched out the fetch lands and expensive cards like Vampiric Tutor due to budget constraints but it still felt good to play.

I was wondering though if you could tell me what our end game is with the Dockside Extortionist/Kroxa/Alter of Dementia. It generates a buck ton of treasures but I was wondering if a finisher such as Torment of Hailfire would be a good include. Even if we cast Torment for 6 it is still a maximum of 18 damage especially if everyone is hell-bent at this point.
