Torn between Scylla and Charybdis

Commander / EDH* BR (Rakdos)

chinrich

No matter what your choice is, you will suffer in some manner. This is the fate of any opponent who steps up to challenge the god of slaughter Mogis. You are truly doomed to be torn between Scylla and Charybdis

This was my first commander I decided to build around and has been growing over the many years, evolving into this terrifying monster of a deck, what i like to see as one of my masterpieces. It's destined to draw the ire of all those who play against it and force them to work together and consider their choices wisely, or face the backlash. Now I will break down many specific parts to the deck, the certain interactions and cluster of cards picked to mess with many different strategies.

Versus control decks To deal against any sort of control deck or to deal with anyone wanting to counter my work, I selected specific enchantments that harm them for either leaving mana untapped, casting spells on others turns, or just harming them for playing spells. Citadel of Pain Painful Quandary Price of Glory Spellshock

Versus Aggro or creature heavy decks To take of the aggressive decks that flood the board with creatures and attempt to hit me either fast or with more creatures than I have. To handle this, I have ways to either stop them, slow them down, or just ruin each new creature they add. Ensnaring Bridge Smoke No Mercy AEther Flash Tainted AEther Burning Sands Defiler of Souls Archfiend of Depravity

Versus any Life gain decks To deal with anyone tying to keep their life total higher than mine or gaining life through any manner, this assortment of spells of creatures messes with them by either punishing them, or even just shutting their life gain down. Heartless Hidetsugu Sower of Discord Archfiend of Despair Rain of Gore Sulfuric Vortex Havoc Festival

Causing chaos and a few win cons Being a deck built within Rakdos colors, I had to include a few spells that just mess with the board as a whole and totally ruin set plans. Wild Evocation and Warp World are in their to just ruin people's day. There are a few cards that are set in the deck to work like combo pieces together that can either ruin other's day or just lock them out the game.

Pestilance + Death Pits of Rath or Death Pits of Rath + Pyrohemia A nice combo, especially once mogis is active as a creature, which only needs one more devotion at that point, cause me to just pay either or to then trigger death pits to wipe the board

Maralen of the Mornsong + Stranglehold This combo can wreck the game, for if uncountered and if they have no answers in their hand to remove either, this combo locks them out of ever drawing a card and just taking 3 damage a turn

Liliana's Contract is an alternate win con since the deck has a decent amount of demons in it, allowing for a chance to win the game.

Besides all those specific cards, the deck is packed with kill spells and creatures with benefits to them to utterly ruin my opponents plans and make them decide which of their choices is the lesser of the two evils. So in the end, which choice will you make when you are torn between Scylla and Charybdis?

My mogis alter was done by this artist. He does amazing work. Was commissioned by me for this deck
