Quick question. Not of This World would not counter a, say, Mana Leak targeting my Phyrexian Dreadnought AS I play it, right? Only abilities and spells when it's on the board?

@DavidBray You are correct. It costs 0 mana only if the spell targets a creature you control with power >= 7.

It's best for countering Unsummon type cards or Path to Exile / Doomblade removal spells

@ GlistenerAgent: I have been considering Stubborn Denial from the new set! what are your thoughts?

Well if this is really trying to be a legacy deck, you need Polluted Delta and Underground Sea . If it's just a casual deck that happens to be legacy legal then w/e.

Not sure how well this deck would really work. Seems too gamble too much and have a lot of non action pieces by themselves.

I have playtested probably 10+, in addition to that i have played against many legacy formatted competitive decks and have lost only a few times.

Can Torpor Orb and Stifle counter sacriface creature spells like Cosmic Larva , Ball Lightning Hell's Thunder ,... And can you change Hunted Horror or even Eater of Days ability so it targets Spellskite (cuss im not sure how Spellskite actually works and what this card can do) so you could get benefits of those cards
BTW awesome idea. I really like it, I never played any Legacy but this is too awesome or even broken lel. Its my first time i see this type of a deck so i reallyy reallyyy impressed !

Torpor Orb can only stop 'enter the battlefield' effects from triggering, so it can't touch things like Cosmic Larva or Ball Lightning . Stifle though can counter to abilities once they trigger so that will work. You could also use Sundial of the Infinite to keep Ball Lightning in play, but you probably wouldn't gain any benefit in keeping Cosmic Larva in play except as a blocker.
The triggered ability from Hunted Horror and Eater of Days is not considered a spell so it could not target Spellskite .
I've got a similar deck that runs both Torpor and Sundial Black Orb.

Hah, you're the first guy other than myself that thought of using Not of This World and that was why I checked this deck. It's really good idea, try to beat some legacy tournament with this one ;)

no Ancient Tomb or City of Traitors ? City is expensive but tomb is pretty cheap now right? Then you can also use Chalice of the Void to shutdown some decks. I'm trying to think of a way to make this more blue to use Force of Will . I understand it is more casual now and made up of what you have, but I find it interesting for those of us with the staples.

I'd love to get a copy of force. Traitors is looking pretty awesome too. Ancient is another great card.. Maybe in the future

No Leveler ? I think he would be great in this deck, although that might be overkill at the same time xD
October 14, 2014 10:22 a.m.
I've playtested and sometimes I get mana screwed. Maybe some Polluted Delta will help? It can also fetch Watery Grave as well.

I wouldn't play leveler just because it's drawback is so bad that if for some reason torpor was destroyed or stifle gets force of willed you're literally screwed with no chance at all.

how would you play around Abrupt Decay or Force of Will / Daze ? these cards can ruin the deck's plan to unleash value.
October 31, 2014 1:33 a.m.
Its_Johnny_Bravo says... #23
Neither of those are in this deck for a reason. Force of will would be a prime choice if I was running more blue but there's very little here. Abrupt decay is great, but relies to heavily on mana combo so it's out.

I think you misunderstood my question.
If your opponent were to play those cards in particular Abrupt Decay and Swords to Plowshares how would you play around those 1 -2 mana hate cards. where is the tech here? I see you have Academy Ruins and cards that give protection of a color but those won't stop everything. These cards as well as the others i mentioned before ruin the playability of the orb combo if your are trying to win on turn by turn 2-3 which is a realistic possibility.

Those cards certainly pose a threat, which is why the sideboard is very important. Swords to plowshares is easily handled by apostles blessing or not of this world. Abrupt decay on the other hand is a problem (there's always going to be 3-4 cards that are just deadly against a certain deck), so I would rely on later game and additional creatures. This deck CAN be disrupted, but I would say that it is very competitive

I agree Counterspell is better but I don't want to burn uu when i need to spend bu. better options and usually it goes very fast. I win on average turn 4
