with fetches, Brainstorm is an amazing card. I also wonder if eater of days is too slow. I'd rather have those slots devoted to more draw than to worse wincons

I think with Ancient Tomb Eater of Days gets better. The Tomb also lets you get Torpor Orb out on turn 1.

@ GlistenerAgent

You mentioned a while back getting some tutors for this deck- i started playing with Lim-Dul's Vault and this has become even better- id like to know your opinion on this card- or if you know of one better

it has allowed me to stack all 4 dreadnoughts on a torpor orb, or grab all of the counterspell cards needed.

Hey there. If you're into cards that love Stifle, you might want to consider Parallax Nexus. It's three mana to exile 5 cards from the opponent's hand, then the next turn you stifle the "leaves the battlefield" trigger. You basically empty your opponent's entire hand without the cards ever returning. That leaves you free to bring out your fatties without having to worry about removal. The big drawback though is that you need a Stifle or similar spell for it to work, which means you might have to add a few Trickbind just to help with the odds.

I am aware of this combo, but as it requires certain cards to work, I don't want to try it. The thing is, with Torpor Orb in play, I dont need to worry about drawing into another Stifle to cast on of the fatties.

Some people suggested Leveler, but as has also been mentioned the drawback is too dangerous. I'd suggest Etched Monstrosity over Leveler. Same mana cost, same power/toughness, but its drawback of casting without Torpor Orb or similar is MUCH more manageable. He's so much better that he isn't even bad without Torpor Orb. I use him in a similar modern deck because Phyrexian Dreadnought isn't legal in modern.

Cheap Tricks

Actually that's a pretty good suggestion, I also like that you're running rites of consumption. I may have to build a modern deck now.

Oh wow I forgot to credit you, I'm sorry. Your deck here was what gave me the idea for mine, I put that in my deck description now.

Hmm, Etched Monstrosity doesn't read like a trigger that would be affected by Torpor Orb (i.e., When, Whenever, or At) or Stifle. Am I missing something there?

You may be right, it does only say that it enters the battlefield with the counters, not it gets the counters when it enters the battlefield. I'll have to check that.

You are correct.
