I think I found some tech or it using Nyx Weaver and Commune with the Gods. like using Eater of Days, but only as a one of because without the orb, oh man can it, and will, backfire.

I've never had problems with it because with this deck If I dont have torpor orb in my hand I dont cast the big creatures,I use them for scavenge material. Out of all the creatures though I would replace eater of days or treacherous pit dweller but they both do so good for me itd be difficult lol

My biggest problem with the deck is that it sometimes seems too dependent on Torpor Orb. That's why I looked for cards that can tutor with it without using Ancient Stirrings. with Weaver and Commune I get to tutor for the critters (read: Valroz), plus Weaver can get back the Orb in case I accidentally mill it.

Shred memory is also a tutor for torpor orb

Yes, but Shred Memory doesn't mill yourself and get your stuff into your grave for Valroz to scavenge.

Phyrexian Soulgorger doesn't work with Torpor Orb, but works with both Lotleth Troll and Varolz, the Scar-Striped. It can even sacrifice itself if you don't know how to send it to the graveyard

i used to run a similar deck in modern however instead of torpor orb stuff i ran things such as Grisly Salvage and Commune with the Gods with infect guys such as glisner elf and flensnermite. i realy enjoy your version of the deck. maybe consider the flying 2 mana infect guy or Rancor. with or without the sugestions i realy enjoy your build

no problem bud always happy to help a varolz deck lol. also you may want to consider running Ground Seal in the sideboard its extra protection from modern staples such as Surgical Extraction. since varoz doesn't target you can still scavenge, another card that gave me some trouble in my match-ups were Spellskite because they would change the target of the scavenge ability to make spellskite bigger, at that point i found it helpful to put Alpha Authority in the sideboard. it protects against kill spells and if you are lucky you can get your opponent to put it on spellskite, then scavenge freely without worry of redirecting to spellskite. plus its realy funny when they realize what they have done.

i honestly had no idea Ground Seal existed! lol

i got the same deck instead of i got myr superion and phyrexian soulgorgor for scavenge bc its colorless so easy to pay for and low cost for high counters

I would run a Corpsejack Menace to double the counters that you can get. But awesome deck though, I LOVE Golgari. +1

I built a very similar deck about a year or so ago. Only real difference was that I was running Fauna Shaman's and no Treacherous Pit-Dweller.

Fauna Shaman is actually pretty sweet in the deck as it allows you to pitch and search when you don't have one of your key peices in play, like Torpor Orb, Lotleth Troll, or Varolz, the Scar-Striped.
