That's a good point. Also are you still considering Phyrexian Tower? I've been running it for a while and I absolutely love it. Being able to turn snakes or even better insects into two black mana is great and being able to get certain creatures that have done their job like eternal witness to the grave so I can bring them back with cards like Phyrexian Reclamation and Meren is also good.

No open house promo Llanowar Elves? That's the absolute best one. Especially when you got it for free like I did.

OptimalGreen: Ugh, no, the pack foil art is so much better XD or the foil version of the original art, but I really love the new Dominaria art.

Well I do have to agree that the Chris Rahn art is indeed nice. In my other decks where I don't have the open house promo it's all the Dominaria art.

I've got pretty much the same rocks as you and was wondering do you think Golgari Signet is the card to replace for Arcane Signet?

Out of curiosity, what do you think of some of the new lands from Throne of Eldraine for this deck, such as Castle Locthwain , Castle Garenbrig or Witch's Cottage ?

OptimalGreen says... #7

Just throwing my two cents in cause I saw the notification but I think the castles could be tested but I think the Witch's Cottage is a no go. Needs three swamps not just any lands to come into play untapped and there's already really good graveyard recursion in the deck and at 32 lands I don't think there's space for it.

GoldenGolgari: None of them will be going in. They don’t give sufficient value unfortunately: the two Castles can’t be tutored with a Fetch, the two commons will almost never come in untapped, I don’t think their effects are worth the mana investment, and none of them can be untapped with Earthcraft (which is a BIG problem for lands in this list).

I am running Witch's Cottage in my Yawgmoth list though!

Daedalus19876 - Thoughts of the following 2 edits....

  1. Remove Fume Spitter for Contamination / Imperial Seal / Yawgmoth's Will but I already read your above comments recursion and how it's mostly for creatures. Nevertheless, Yawgs will is still something to consider, I mean come on, it's Yawgmoth! Which brings me to my next suggestion....

  2. Remove Command Beacon for Volrath's Stronghold - Both function similarly. Beacon immediately brings hapatra back to hand for same turn use but you lose it immediately. Stronghold on the other hand is MUCH more versatile, and repeatable getting any creature in your yard, but top deck instead of to hand. I think it warrants the inclusion. While it does happen, how many games does she cost too much and you NEED her the same turn? If you thought of switching the two, could you set up your board so that you can place hapatra in grave rather than Command zone?

Something tells me Daedalus19876 wont be dropping $630 for an Imperial Seal . That kinda cash would be better spent on a Bayou . Also removing more and more -1/-1 counter cards for good stuff just doesn't sound that great. Fume Spitter isn't some massive all star but it does kill mana dorks and other problematic 1 toughness creatures while making you snakes and insects.

Volrath's Stronghold sounds neat though. Would definitely be interested about input on that although since they're similar dropping $45 to replace Beacon might be a bit meh especially when Phyrexian Reclamation is already in the deck.

Oh also not having to sacrifice Stronghold and thus not being down a land sounds good as well.

Profet93: I don't want to spend too much more money at this moment, honestly. Even the $40 for Volrath's Stronghold is a bit steep currently. With that being said, it's probably not a bad shift for this list, and will almost certainly go in eventually. Yawgmoth's Will is a bit less so, I'd say. I don't run enough rituals to really go crazy with it.

OptimalGreen: Ironically enough, there actually IS an Imperial Seal in the list right now! My Circu deck is currently coming apart, so I had an extra XD but I wouldn't buy one outright, alas.

I need to update this list, there've been a few changes recently.

Whelp. When you update the list do you have any recommendations of what to run in it's place? I don't have $350 and I'd rather just wait for it to get a reprint like Imperial Recruiter and Mana Drain did.

I would let him proxy it, $ shouldn't ever be an issue in my opinion. But thats a fair point, I'm just very found of tutors because they improve consistency, help you find answers, etc... I also didn't even realize the price.

He's cute, but I never felt he was impactful and with a list so refined, I would argue its the easiest cut unless David feels otherwise.

Daedalus19876

I would say proxy but I know you dont like doing that unless its for some testing. Didn't realize volrath was at 40+. I'm curious to see your changes.

I like it quite a bit since it's unsuspecting and can kill stuff like Priest of Titania which in the right deck is like killing a cradle and it can kill combo pieces like Wirewood Symbiote

What's so great about that new Liliana? Just the card draw potential? Also you should check tcgplayer for a Volrath's Stronghold and include Damaged. ChannelFireball still has one left and I bought the other and it's MP at worst not damaged. They also just want $23. :v

November 8, 2019 12:04 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #17

OptimalGreen: Mostly the card draw potential, but it's also a card that makes board wipes very unprofitable for my opponents. Plus it's surprisingly easy to protect PWs with my armies of deathtouching snakes XD

Just tinkering with her, since I'm finding I end up with a HUGE amount of ramp but few cards in hand in my current build...

I'm also putting Worldly Tutor back in, since Yawgmoth is such a hilariously good tutor target in this list.

Like the deck and am working on a slightly modified version of it. I was thinking putting in a cavern of souls would be good. It can protect whatever combo piece you trying to drop. Naming human protects Hapatra and Yawgmoth or naming Cleric protects them and Mikaeus. Or naming Beast or Druid to protect CB or DD. It can be pretty flexible. Not sure of you think it's worth dropping a forest or one of the weaker duals maybe.

Cavern seems pretty heavily meta dependent or dependent on whether you have a large amount of creatures of the same type. Like Vannifar and Momir Vig players use it but it's because they have 10+ Elf creatures in their decks. Meanwhile a lot of optimized decks don't seem to run it.

Daedalus19876 says... #20

Fck_Storm: Honestly? The problem is that I don't own a second Cavern, and this deck kinda takes second-fiddle to my Yawgmoth list right now. There's plenty of changes I SHOULD make here and never get around to XD

I had no idea Ohran Frostfang was a thing and now I want to add it to my deck too. Also can't believe it's $5. I didn't think there were any new cards from C19 that had any value.

OptimalGreen: It's another copy of Seshiro the Anointed who also draws off non-Snake stuff! I'm looking forward to testing it.

Hey Deadalus,

Quick question, I proxied out your deck a week ago and its a ton of fun. I checked it today to make sure I had everything right and some cards seemed to have dropped off or changed. This includes mikaues, triumph, liliana, attrition, beastmaster and cryptolith rite. I may have missed some. Is this an ongoing change? Thanks for the clarification and all the work you put into the primer.

Did you ever consider giving Phyrexian Tower a chance? I've been testing it in my deck and like pretty much all token decks it's amazing especially when it's insect tokens that get fed into it for two black mana. Also helps to get cards like Eternal Witness in the graveyard to recur with Volrath's Stronghold and Phyrexian Reclamation .

Daedalus19876 says... #25

Perkanator: Yeah, this list is still a living document, you didn't make any mistakes :) I've been making some major changes recently, partly to adapt to my current meta, since the deck hasn't quite been doing what I wanted.

OptimalGreen: I've messed with the idea. I'm unsure, though, since I want as many of my lands as possible to tap for colors on early turns to cast Hapatra...
