In that same vein what about Sylvan Safekeeper?

skeletonkey8: Those two certainly aren't BAD. But I've found that my primary issues here are not related to counterspells or single-target removal: the biggest threat is a board wipe which resets my battlefield almost to zero. And while I'd like to add Serpopard/Safekeeper, there's just no slots these days haha.

Running Chrome Mox without Mox Diamond is perfectly valid and a thing that happens even in cEDH which encourages proxies if you can't afford the real ones so yeah Mox Diamond isn't really a must have when this deck already has Chrome.

Ok hmmm i have a new suggestion in light of your comments =) what about adding Bow of Nylea and Inspiring Call. I know spots are tight, but you already have 2 of other creatures putting out +1 counters, maybe that's too few outlets for a payoff like this? Thoughts?

If you wanted more direct counters your could add Retreat to Kazandu and maybe Oran-Rief, the Vastwood

Or even Varolz, the Scar-Striped

skeletonkey8: I just don't have enough synergy with +1 counters, sorry. Nor the space to add another theme.

Hello, I'm also Hapatra player and actually her servant. (I build Hapatra fully-foil too.)

Your list is so nice! I think your Hapatra can play both Combo and Beat-down strategy.

I've almost only focused on Combo. (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/cedh-hapatra-vizier-of-poisons-edh-commander/)

I'm Japanese player, so I'm so glad to know Hapatra goes worldwide!!!

One question is why you use Wild Growth instead of Elvish Mystic?

I think creatures are more usable because we can sacrifice them by Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and they will be huge by Craterhoof Behemoth.

hello take2da2! is commander popular in Japan? i've always been curious. :)

Hei!

EDH, Commander is now much more popular in Japan because COVID remove many tournament schedules so we enjoy playing Discord EDH!

Hapatra is not so popular in Japan, but Hapatra + Yawgmoth combo is bit popular now... sometimes new Sisay uses.

I'm Hapatra missionary :)

take2da2: Another full-foil Hapatra deck? Sweet :D I'm still working on it, but I might get there soon! Not looking forward to grabbing that Judge Cradle, though.

It seems like we have a lot of strategies in common -- this is definitely a combo list as well, though I didn't go quite as heavily on Yawgmoth alone. I'm not running the Undying combos, just because I don't want to make Yawgmoth my ONLY wincon (and the undying creatures are bad without him) -- though I am running those undying combos in my list with Yawgmoth in command zone (Message from Surgeon-General Yawgmoth Re: COVID-19, though it needs updates).

I use Wild Growth because it's less fragile than another mana dork (I get board wiped a LOT), and because it allows ridiculous interactions with Earthcraft. Plus, it doesn't have "summoning sickness" -- on turn 2, I can use one land to enchant the other, and immediately get the mana back, making Wild Growth essentially a 0-mana form of ramp. I should probably run Utopia Sprawl too...

Please continue to spread the Gospel of Hapatra to the world! Haha.

I'd love to talk further -- we chose a lot of similar strategies, but there's definitely differences between how our decks play. I seem to be running more removal and interaction, to deal with stax pieces and slow down other combos, while you intend to focus on speed above all else (your interaction is almost entirely defensive).

take2da2 That's cool! Could I add on you discord? I like having international Magic friends. :)

Daedalus19876, thx for your answer!

Yes, only Yawgmoth is weak against removal spells and Linvala, Keeper of Silence especially...

Why I've focused on speed is there are many hi-speed decks in meta game Japan like Inalla, Archmage Ritualist.

But actually, now game speed become slower because of Thassa's Oracle and Flash banned, so I think I should consider about other combos like your deck. I once used some other sub-combos, so I will try to use again them. Your Ivy Lane Denizen seems nice! and I'm thinking about Champion of Lambholt because this is almost Woodland Champion and combination with Hapatra appears to be nice.

I didn't know the advantage of Wild Growth. Thanks so much! I will try it and Utopia Sprawl too.

Yes, I use removal only for opponents stuffs like Linvala, Cursed Totem, and Plague Engineer. I hate them haha.

Man, on of these days I'll finally get a Gaea's Cradle and make this thing over the top.

Thoughts on that new snake that was spoiled?

Hooded Blightfang.

FunkiestBunch: Potentially! It gives me a decent clock, which affects all opponents and gives me something of a life buffer for Necropotence/Yawgmoth, Thran Physician... The problem is that I'm not sure what to cut.

For anyone else who's wondering, this is the card in question:

What the heck I wrote a way longer comment...

I was saying that I don't have Earthcraft or Crop Rotation in my deck since there's also no Gaea's Cradle.

I run Defense of the Heart as well as Survival of the Fittest. Often find that I'm flooded at 33 lands. Quillspike in there as well to combo with Devoted Druid.

Thoughts on Grim Tutor? I feel like the tutors you're running are all better and I'm using pretty much the same ones but I've been eyeing it especially for my Doran deck which is far lower in power than Hapatra.

June 18, 2020 5:33 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #22

OptimalGreen: Ehhh, I'm not super convinced by it. In principle, it can search for Earthcraft and be mana-positive, but I'm running a SIGNIFICANT number of better tutors already...

June 18, 2020 9:03 p.m.

OptimalGreen says... #23

That's what I thought. Grim Tutor seems like it's for mono-black decks or decks on a tighter budget now that it's been reprinted. Also what do you think of Allosaurus Shepherd? Doesn't protect Yawgmoth but it seems like it'll be in a lot of green decks. I know I'll be putting it in my Radha deck since all three effects are relevant.

Hey. Do I miss some synergy regarding Cavern of Souls? Or is it just a one time "you cannot counter my creature"?

June 27, 2020 4:35 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #25

kado: Mostly a one-time "can't counter", but both Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons and Yawgmoth, Thran Physician are humans -- ie, my most critical two combo pieces. So it prevents my central combo from being countered!
