Have you ever considered removing squirrels nest for something else? Its cool with earth craft when it goes off, but it doesnt win you the game and doesn't provide a whole lot of synergy on it's own. It's always seemed subpar to me and the most weakest/susceptible combo in the deck?

I know you're still testing the waters with all your changes. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Profet93: Honestly, the reason that combo is in there is because I really needed a combo that could 1) survive a board wipe and attempt to win again the next turn, 2) at least moderately synergize with the rest of the deck (since Earthcraft is already in the deck), and 3) doesn't rely on my commander at all, if she gets stolen or becomes too expensive.

If you've got a better wincon that matches those three criteria, I'd be happy to try the swap!

I don't think Squirrels Nest is a huge issue in a deck filled with tutors and draw engines like Necropotence honestly. It doesn't hurt nearly as much to draw it when you're drawing several cards in a turn.

Hey there! Really love Hapatra also, she was my first edh build! I was wondering if you would take a look at my build here :

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hapatras-poison-ivy-1/

I feel it's pretty fast and competitive but i'm looking to have another look at it !

What do you think of Bastion of Remembrance? I've been really happy with it so far!

Thanks!

Removed Netherborn Altar, added Hooded Blightfang for testing. Also trying Harvest Season over Bane of Progress?

johnwayne1488: I'll take a look! What are your thoughts on my list?

I'm not SUPER convinced by Bastion of Remembrance here -- I have a lot more creature tutors than non-creature tutors, so Zulaport Cutthroat does the job better for me -- but I'm always interested in making changes. What have you added from recent sets?

So i added Hooded Blightfang, I also wanna test it out as it's seems as an agressive 3 drop! Liliana's Standard Bearer also, if i can get 3 card for 3 mana i'm fine with that! For Bastion of Remembrance, I do run Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent and Beseech the Queen to get it. It's a non-creature so sometimes harder to remove on the spot when you're combo-ing out and it gives a 1/1 creature if you're missing 1 token to get a loop going!

My deck is more of a pod deck I guess, it's missing some expensive pieces as of now. I love your take on Hapatra, it looks pretty competitive and all good cards, your exclusions are accurate too!

Maybe Dryad Arbor with that Green Sun's Zenith you have ! Some cards I would cut but depends on your meta too like Null Rod but I understand why you play it! How's Fiend Artisan ? I feel like it could be a good add even tough i run Birthing Pod!

Oh and I ordered a Phyrexian Tower, i don't see it on your list either, it could be good with that Crop Rotation too!

johnwayne1488: Fiend Artisan is spectacular. I would highly recommend it :) I used to run Phyrexian Tower, but I decided to go slightly heavier on the basic lands to make Earthcraft more reliable.

What would be the best way to play Fiend Artisan? I didn't find myself in good situations everytime I played him. I couldn't really sacrifice another creature for it.

Daedalus19876 says... #11

IzmAYAYA: I've had no problem sacrificing snakes, honestly. What were the issues you ran into?

July 12, 2020 6:14 p.m.

IzmAYAYA says... #12

Well the fact it's a 1 toughness creature and removals. I very rarely had more than 2 creatures in my graveyard, so most of the time it was a 2/2 and so it dies pretty easily. But I guess the main issue is how much snakes I can generate. Most games, I get on average 3 or 4 I would say. I can't always attack with Hapatra or generate tokens with consistency.

IzmAYAYA Can you post a link? You should be able to make a ton of tokens like no problem if going the counters route.

Pabs4444 Here's my decklist.

https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hapatatra-test/?cat=type&sort=cost&cb=1594613100

I'm still somehow new to magic, so there's still a lot of mistakes I make. I think my main issue is to not tutor for a way to create tokens, like black sun zenith or Soul snuffer, I guess?

Aside from that, I don't have a reliable way to generate tokens unless my commander is unblockable or has flying (but it can be countered by flying).

July 13, 2020 12:11 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #15

IzmAYAYA: If you need to give Hapatra flying often, maybe try Demonic Embrace? I've been considering it for my list. But in general, I get most of my tokens through effects other than Hapatra's combat damage trigger. But even as a 1/1 creature, you can easily reanimate it or get it back -- when you make your opponent spend spot removal on a 2-drop, you come out ahead IMO.

July 13, 2020 8:06 a.m.

IzmAYAYA says... #16

What are the effects other than Hapatra's combat damage trigger you have then? Black sun zenith and Soul snuffers (and Yawgmoth I guess), right?

I actually never considered tutoring soul snuffers or black sun zenith actually. I always focused on green creatures, so maybe that's my mistake.

Also yeah that is what I'm doing right now, enchanting Hapatra so she can produce tokens.

July 13, 2020 8:14 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #17

IzmAYAYA: Ammit Eternal, Soul Snuffers, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Black Sun's Zenith, and Grim Affliction are my biggest token producers. I tend to tutor for them, or draw aggressively until I find them.

July 13, 2020 8:24 a.m.

IzmAYAYA says... #18

So that means you don't focus on tutoring for green creatures/spells then? I always did that until now.

Also if I were to cast Fiend Artisan, what is your thought process as to which creature to tutor? I know it depends on the current board and what you have in hand but still, is there anything else you think of when you want to tutor?

July 13, 2020 9:05 a.m.

Pabs4444 says... #19

IzmAYAYA I posted a few cards that put counters on creatures. I personally prefer to go all on the counters plan with combos thrown in that already synergies on their own. There is also EDHrec that you can look into for card suggestions

July 13, 2020 11:16 a.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #20

IzmAYAYA: Honestly, Fiend Artisan usually tutors for Yawgmoth, since he pretty much wins outright? But it can also grab Devoted Druid, Ivy Lane Denizen, etc.

July 13, 2020 3:16 p.m.

OptimalGreen says... #21

I was wondering about Hooded Blightfang when Ohran Frostfang is in the deck. Seems like a really great way to just dab on the entire table when you have a lot of snakes out.

July 13, 2020 3:18 p.m.

IzmAYAYA says... #22

Add Seshiro the Anointed and suddenly become even more a threat. Furthermore allows you to draw even more cards, but you don't have to cuz it says "may" so it's even better.

July 13, 2020 3:25 p.m.

IzmAYAYA says... #23

And yeah I mean Yawgmoth is pretty busted on its own, so it's a guaranteed win every time. I prefer not to use him except if I'm back against the wall and I know I'm going to lose the next turn. It makes my victory even tastier knowing my opponent was so close to winning but nooope~ :D

July 13, 2020 3:29 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #24

OptimalGreen: I'm trying Hooded Blightfang right now, we'll see how good it ends up being. I also have Seshiro, so...

July 13, 2020 3:37 p.m.

OptimalGreen says... #25

I think Blightfang is a pretty good addition but if it doesn't performs well than oh well. I can just see scenarios in which you have a large amount of tokens and than play it and just kill everyone. Also it's been so long since I've got to play Hapatra that I forgot the tokens had deathtouch already.
