skeletonkey8: Deathrite just wasn't as useful as my metagame shifted. It's a great card, people were just playing less fetches due to Ashiok.

And Hooded Blightfang proved not to be a fast enough clock... BUT this new guy should do the trick!

Pact of the Serpent surely looks like a possibility, yes?

I am reconsidering Parallel Lives for this list. What do you think? With Haptra and Yawgmoth, the 4 drop enchantment lets you go off on infinite draw. A little heavy on the CMC but still fits in with the typical combo suite. But really, I was just thinking with Fynn, the Fangbearer in the list, it's more important than ever to have a board state with 5 or so snakes - not necessarily having infinite snakes. Just 5 that can get through + Fynn is enough to kill someone. So I am looking for more ways to build up those critical numbers of deathtouch attackers. Thoughts?

cleandeceit: I'm thinking no on Parallel Lives. We've already got a LOT of ways to combo once we have Hapatra/Yawgmoth on field (Nest of Scarabs, Ivy Lane Denizen, Eldrazi Monument, Seshiro, etc). And while the extra tokens are nice for Fynn, we could just play another -1/-1 counter effect to make more tokens in that slot.

What about Cauldron of Souls ? Board protection with built-in snake generator...

TheDragonGuy says... #9

Just realized Cauldron of Souls doesn't work with tokens, so please forget about my suggestion...

Came across this one after deciding I needed something Golgari. Noticing the desk list isn't quite matching the primer anymore. I started with the list and ended up with this: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/29-04-21-hapatra-vizier-of-poisons/

Any suggestions? I'd love a little more general recursion, such as Regrowth or a way to shuffle so you can re-tutor like Elixir of Immortality but not quite sure what could be cuttable.

rkjunior: It's a great deck! But yeah, keeping all my primers updated is... hard. I have like 9 active ones and I'm an incurable tinkerer.

Regrowth is great, and just got a shiny new Mystic Archive printing... But we're in black, so if you want creatures back, we have powerful reanimation spells ;) What are you trying to recover?

Daedalus19876: I was thinking Regrowth would be good for when something gets removed aside from a creature. Stuff like Skullclamp and mana rocks get a lot of hate. Be nice to have a way to get them back.asidr from Eternal Witness . I think it's a definite flex spot at this point. We will see how it plays out.

@rkjunior: I recently added Deadly Brew . Like unlike Regrowth or Eternal Witness , it cant get back any card but it can get back any permanent so it is a little more flexible when I am looking at my non-creature options. Now, the hard part was figuring out what to cut, I still had Meren of Clan Nel Toth on my list, so I decided that could go, because I am also running Malakir Rebirth  Flip, Animate Dead , Reanimate and Eternal Witness . Ideally, I will sack a token to Deadly Brew , but in a pinch to get back a combo piece, there are other creatures that can go to the yard and still make it worth while.

While I am here Daedalus19876, I noticed that Ammit Eternal is no longer in your main board - I am shocked. This guy has always brought value to my board. What made you think he is no longer worth while? And Banewhip Punisher is added!? I have never felt that Banewhip was worth it, are you finding that you just couldn't get better removal?

cleandeceit: The deck needs some love, once my semester is over. Lots of new toys from Strixhaven! My PhD is kicking my ass -- I'm slowly going through and updating lists :) Hapatra hasn't been played in months, though...

Daedalus19876 definitely interested in seeing an updated list!

Now that return to play at stores have started again, I may add this to my paper arsenal. Sucks I sold my Earthcraft for $50 all those years ago lol

What about Contagion Engine or Contagion Clasp it would give you some more proliferate and puts -1/-1 counters on target creatures.

Thoughts on Quillspike over Ivy Lane Denizen ? Kind of the same effect but a little cheaper.

I don't have Earthcraft any suggestions on a less efficient replacement? If there isn't an alternative should I just put the two MDFC lands and add another land in it's place? Thanks a lot, this looks really fun. Excited to build it.

@Nawg, try Concordant Crossroads + Cryptolith Rite .

@Daedalus19876, I want to suggest replacing Seshiro the Anointed with Blex, Vexing Pest  Flip and here is why. 1st, if pulling a combo with Yawgmoth via an anthem effect, Blex has an advantage in that he is only 3cmc rather than 6cmc. 2nd, Blex will work with Nest of Scarabs where Seshiro does not. 3rd, when looking for card draw, Search for Blex is faster and more flexible. Getting to see 5 cards for 4 mana is really efficient, especially when the cards you dont choose to pay life for go to the graveyard anyway, making it possible to recur them later. In the majority of cases, this is going to be a much better way to put cards in your hand, rather than paying six and having to get through with combat damage.

cleandeceit: I appreciate the suggestion! I need to revamp this deck, stay tuned.

I'll likely be cutting Seshiro anyway, but probably for a different set of Strixhaven/MH2 spells ( Smell Fear , Persist , Culling Ritual , Plumb the Forbidden , Rushed Rebirth , etc). This deck needs a complete rebuild :)

Blex certainly isn't bad though!

Daedalus19876 says... #21

Nawg: Cryptolith Rite is your only real option here, alas.

June 6, 2021 5:34 p.m.

cleandeceit says... #22

@Daedalus19876 oh yeah, Persist is going to be great for Hapatra. I dont know how I feel about the rest, but I might consider Culling Ritual at some point. I just can't think of a situation where I have a huge board that is big enough to get value off of it where I haven't combo'ed out already anyway. I dont want to pay 4 mana to wipe myself out unless there is an upside.

Anyway, how is that PhD coming? :)

I always the thoughts and feed back i get here, what are your guys thoughts on Chatterfang, Squirrel General, i figure it goes infinite with Squirrel Nest, Earthcraft and a basic swamp?

ALSO The Meathook Massacre, IMA RIGHT!

Daedalus19876 says... #25

Axuran: Mmm, not a HUGE fan. I tried it, but something like Toski was far better.

skeletonkey8: I don't think I'll put Chatterfang in here, alas. The squirrel tokens don't do as much as I wish they did, though I have been surprised by cards before. With regards to The Meathook Massacre, I really wish it gave -1 counters. I'd definitely run it then :/
