Rise From Your Graves to Your Knees

There are two ways I can pilot this deck; I can play it as a traditional Grixis goodstuff reanimator deck with lots of powerful enters-the-battlefield creatures (see Favorite Reanimation Targets section), using Sedris and a few classic reanimation spells Necromancy, Dance with the Dead, Animate Dead, and others. I used to run Teferi's Veil, Conjurer's Closet and Sundial of the Infinite because they are simply excellent with unearth, but I have since been forced to cut them because I want to streamline the list more towards reanimator.

Alternatively, there is a sneaky reanimation combo that almost always leaves your opponents at the table completely decimated that involves Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Living Death, Panharmonicon, and a metric ton of black devotion. With a particularly favorable hand, I have once been able to tutor for the pieces and win the game on turn 6, although the process is usually far more durdly.

There is also the infinite combo with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Zealous Conscripts if you want to win plain and dirty. For a quick explanation of the combo, have them both enter simultaneously, then target Kiki-Jiki with Conscripts. In response, tap to make a token copy of Conscripts (also targeting Kiki-Jiki), allow the second target to resolve, untapping Kiki-Jiki, and rinse and repeat for an arbitrary number of 3/3 hasty dudes. Note: with Panharmonicon out you can also steal every unprotected permanent your opponents control for a clear path.

Successfully executed, the following combo will not only wrath your opponents and leave you with a humongous life total, but will also likely kill all your opponents simultaneously.

Step One involves casting Buried Alive and searching for these three following cards; Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Massacre Wurm, and/or Razaketh, the Foulblooded. You can find Buried Alive by looting or tutoring for it.

Once we have the Gray Merchant and our biggest providers of black devotion in our graveyard, Step Two has us tutoring and looting for the rest of the pieces; Panharmonicon, Living Death, and Bojuka Bog if there's someone else with a well-stocked graveyard who isn't going to die to combo. Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Liliana Vess, Razaketh, the Foulblooded, Rune-Scarred Demon, and Sidisi, Undead Vizier all tutor directly, Snapcaster Mage and a transformed Jace, Vryn's Prodigy   can be used to recur a tutor spell. There are also thirteen cards that loot or draw, most of which have ways to replay or recur.

Step Three is just all about pumping up the graveyard full of black devotion creatures by looting and generally not giving a crap about our creatures dying. Then cast Panharmonicon and Living Death to resolve a massive black devotion trigger on Gray Merchant of Asphodel, instantly creating a 20-30 life loss drain from each opponent. If we also happened to reanimate Flayer of the Hatebound, it's good game. If not, the life difference coupled with your extreme board dominance will ensure your victory by the next turn.

Really, almost all the creatures in this deck are meant to be abused and reused with reanimation, but that doesn't mean I can't share some favorites.

Combustible Gearhulk

This guy is one of my personal favorites in the decklist. The reason it's so powerful is because its ability has no downside no matter which choice your opponent makes; in fact, drawing cards might actually be slightly WORSE than having your opponent mill you for 3 and then take a beating, since filling up your graveyard is so advantageous. Makes for fun political shenanigans with Deadeye Navigator.

Doom Whisperer

Low-costed enough to be hardcastable as well, the Doom Whisperer transforms our ample life total into cards in the yard, on top of being a beefy beatstick. Great way to burn off extra life to setup for a massive Living Death combo.

Grave Titan

Well, this card is just straight-up silly. Immediately slam down 10 power on the board for six mana in black? AND it generates double chump blockers? It's such a strong card that demands board respect; you can't ask for much more in a goodstuff card. Oh wait, it also provides two black devotion for our combo!

It That Betrays

A pretty scary Eldrazi even if you're only unearthing it for one turn. An 11/11 barreling down on a player that also steals two permanents is pretty great. Also extremely rude to leave around on the board when you cast Living Death. Fantastic big beatstick.

Flayer of the Hatebound

Unearthing enough creatures in a single turn with this guy out can sometimes deal enough face damage to kill someone outright, plus he serves as the backup damage in the Living Death combo. He also provides repeatable, high-damage removal that is difficult to survive.

Mikaeus, the Unhallowed

Your creatures that couldn't stay dead before now will stay even-not-deader. Grants an anthem effect and then destroys attacking Humans is just icing on the cake. Combine with a sacrifice outlet to milk your enters-the-battlefield effects from your creatures.

Razaketh, the Foulblooded

Serves triple duty as a repeatable tutor, a sacrifice outlet, and triple black devotion for the Gary combo. A shoe-in for the deck if I ever saw one.

Sheoldred, Whispering One

The longer you keep her around, the more and more tempo you'll get. Once you've gotten an opponent into a position where they're topdecking with an empty board, they'll never be able to catch up to you. Also has nice synergy with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Snapcaster Mage + Buried Alive

Stuff your graveyard with goodies, including the Snappy, then reanimate him to stuff your graveyard with even more goodies.

Deadeye Navigator + Massacre Wurm

Use the Navigator's ability to repeatedly blink the Wurm until a one-sided wrath has been created, also causing opponents to lose a lot of life in the process.

Deadeye Navigator + Mulldrifter

So apparently you are allowed to soulbond Mulldrifter if you cast it for its evoke cost, which means you can double the amount of card draw you get out of this thing. Ideally, you want to cast it for evoke, draw two cards, then flicker it as many times as you want in order to gorge your hand. Too many cards at end of the turn? That just means free discarding value creatures for reanimation!

It That Betrays + Living Death

If you for some reason have the Eldrazi on the board but you're still in a dire situation, casting Living Death will steal all of your opponents' nontoken creatures to give you some extra board presence.

Kederekt Leviathan + Animate Dead

This combo has been in and out of the decklist numerous times, but since my playgroup has expanded and I find myself in games with more players, being able to repeatedly clear the board until I can set up a kill is invaluable. Basically, I enchant the Leviathan in the graveyard to return it, which bounces everything else, including the enchantment, which puts the Leviathan back in the bin. Rinse and repeat every so often to create a soft lock.

Sundial of the Infinite + Unearth

At the moment, the only card in the list solely if I need to resort to unearthing creatures from my graveyard. Use it to keep unearthed creatures around after reanimation. When you end the turn, all abilities are exiled from the stack, including the 'exile at beginning of end step' drawback from unearth.

If you've made it this far, thanks for taking the time to check out my decklist!
