Budget is currently an issue; I don't have the 100+ dollars to spend on two lands. I actually found Grixis Control to be a bit difficult in my most recent tournament. They have access to Cryptic Command and have the tools to last long enough to cast it. Although, it was also the first time I faced the deck, and my poor openers, draws, and missplays probably made it needlessly difficult.
March 23, 2017 12:50 a.m.
Sadly I didn't. I'm just adding it to the decklist since that is the version of the deck that I am presenting. My own personal budget shouldn't take the place of a brew. I was actually going to get them, only to find that they've gone up from $30 to $65...
I'll get them once they're reprinted in Modern Masters 2018.

I don't know if Modern Masters reprints in 2018. They're probably gonna have another one in 2019.
March 25, 2017 1:48 p.m.
Either way, the next Modern Masters will almost certainly give us the reprint that we want.

If you're running snow lands then how about Gelid Shackles. Pair it with Open the Armory for some main board Spellskite hate

I DO have the snow lands in there for Gelid Shackles, good eye! However, my current meta is fairly scarce of Spellskites.

Where's the Dryad Arbor? Also, I'd like to have an intelligent conversation about Silhana Ledgewalker vs Kor Spiritdancer. Thoughts?
April 6, 2017 7:40 p.m.
Dryad Arbor IS in the deck (look at the lands section).
I certainly do have thoughts about Silhana and Spiritdancer. Let me begin:
Kor Spiritdancer is fantastic. If allowed to stick, she effectively ends the game the turn she's able to swing. Even IF your opponent has removal, she at least acts as a cantrip. I typically include her in the deck to handle matchups that would otherwise be difficult, or to punish decks that don't run enough removal (Affinity). Eldrazi Tron, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Storm, and Merfolk are all decks that run little to no removal in the mainboard. She also punishes people for taking out their seemingly blanked removal, as now we're able to get a Spiritdancer to stick safely.
Silhana Ledgewalker is great, in the right meta. As it happens, we happen to BE in that meta. Fatal Push, Path to Exile, Lightning Bolt, and Abrupt Decay are currently RAMPANT in the format. Tron, Death's Shadow, Bant Eldrazi, and Dredge are also currently all meta, sporting large creatures that are difficult to race with. Ledgewalker easily circumvents those large creatures, blanking ALL of your opponent's removal, at the cost of slowing down the deck (potentially). Also, having more hexproof creatures is especially good Blessed Alliance being in sideboards. However, while all these things are great, she makes the deck TOO consistent. Bad matchups are still poor, because our hexproof creature will never be any bigger than the average. At least Kor Spiritdancer has the chance of being the miracle we need to win an "unwinnable matchup".

I'm not sure what I would replace for Cartouche of Solidarity. It's also iffy to me if the 1/1 token is worth it in the current standard meta. Yes, it combats Liliana of the Veil, but we already have fetchlands plus Dryad Arbor for that. It does have the added benefit of protecting us from Blessed Alliance so maybe there's something there.
Cartouche of Strength, I feel, is good enough to push Bogles into notoriety against.
It was a large part of the meta after Reid Duke's showing in 2013, and again during the days of Splinter Twin, Nahiri Jeskai, and Eldrazi Winter. It allows us to cut copies of Path to Exile to increase its overall consistency.
May 11, 2017 12:59 a.m.
I think you could remove some Hyena Umbra to make room for Cartouche of Solidarity. They effectively do the same thing, except one protects against boardwipes while the other protects against sacrificing. Also, how is Cartouche of Strength working for you? It's alright removal, but 3 mana seems like a lot to me.
May 30, 2017 9:50 a.m.
Sadly, I cannot swap the two. My meta is flooded with Blue/White control (Supreme Verdict AND Blessed Alliance), Grixis control (Damnation), and G/W Emeria (Wrath of God). It's a tough situation to be in.
Cartouche of Strength is currently stomping almost ever single time I playtest it. The card allows us to move BACK towards Reid Duke's 27 Aura list, which was much, much more consistent than the Path version. As I said in the article, the ONLY reason we started running Path was because of Splinter Twin. By leaning towards a more aura-heavy list, I get a better clock while still having a fetchable answer to Spellskite. Unless you're consistently facing Counters Company, Kiki-Chord, or some other creature-combo based deck, I suggest Cartouche over Path. One of the main issues with Path to Exile is that it is indeed ramping your opponent. In my meta, getting them closer to Cryptic locking me just to get rid of a Snapcaster is never worth it. Against aggro, it double procs lifelink and gets their best creature off the field. Against control or Storm/Ad Nauseam, it's not Path, which is almost dead in the matchup (except when answering a Celestial Colonnade).
As for the mana efficiency, look at CoS in the same light that people do Boros Charm, Izzet Charm, or Collective Brutality. Those cards are hardly mana efficient, but the fact that they give the pilot so many options is enough to justify their inclusion. It's the same with CoS.

DarkStarStorm Yeah, that makes sense about Cartouche of Solidarity. I guess my meta doean't have as many boarwipes.
Thanks for the explanation, Cartouche of Strength does actually seem pretty good. I might put a few in the sideboard, but buying fewer Paths does seem like a good thing to me.

Redace878 If you're unsure on getting on the Cartouche of Strength bandwagon, just try adding one in the main and see how it feels. You can always take it out.

What are your thoughts on Dromoka's Command over Path and Cartouche of Strength? I like the idea of adding Ajani, Caller of the Pride. I used him several years ago in a Bant Auras deck with Invisible Stalker.
July 1, 2017 11:30 a.m.
jonbone999 It's...not bad, actually. I would run it if your meta is flooded with Burn and B/W Tokens (because you can force them to sac Bitterblossom). Personally, I appreciate the synergy that Cartouche has with Ethereal Armor plus the trample helps immensely. Still...your suggestion is swaying me toward putting it in the sideboard.

For my personal opinion, you can put 1 or 2 pcKataki, War's Wage t against affinity so that opponent don't have mana to cast their spell due to opponent was paid mana for protect their artifacts on the battlefield.
March 12, 2018 9:01 a.m.
I've tested Kataki in the deck multiple times. When he works, you win. However about 50% of the time they have some form of interaction on board and he does literal nothing. Just having a Stony Silence in its place ensures that it will always be useful. The affinity matchup is largely in our favor, so I'd rather keep Stony Silence in the board as hate against Tron.

Have you tried Nimble Mongoose yet? Curious how it is in the deck.
August 3, 2019 12:04 p.m.
Texturepack It has shroud, not hexproof. I also hardly ever have seven cards in my graveyard. If a third Bogle were to be printed, I'm not sure if I would ditch Kor Spiritdancer for it. The London Mulligan ensures that I will almost always be able to mulligan for the Bogle, but it might be nice to have a greater number for rebuilding purposes.

the grixis control matchup is pretty much unlosable. played against it twice at GP Van, 4-0. also w/r prison is nigh unwinnable, mainboard Chalice of the Void(t1), Blessed Alliance, Blood Moon and Nahiri, the Harbinger is pretty much the ultimate counter to bogles.
