Looks good. :) I'm just wondering how Mana leak does for you late game? I built This bant be happening... To see how good it could be, and I didn't run Mana leak because I just thought it was kind of a weak card late game. But I don't often run blue on Modern, so I'm not sure.

I like your deck, + 1 from me (I've also put it on the Goyfless one). By the way, Mana Leak performs good for me, in late game is not as strong as in the first turns, but it can always turn useful. However, if you are worried about late turns, you could run a 4x Rune Snag, I used to have it, but then I found that, in my meta, I was happier with Mana Leak.

Yeah, I thought about that, too. I'm proxying the deck, and I'll play test it to see if I have trouble with cancels. But cards like Voidslime are just broken. Oh, you're going to -2 lily and make me sac Geist of Saint Traft let's cancel that.. Then they're just utterly confused lol.

Yeah, and I didn't know that card, it is just broken man! It lets you want to create an entire deck around it.

Which I pretty much did. Haha. I was going to use Plasm Capture, but then my friend showed me that and it was instantly in. My friend and I built that bant deck in about a half hour. Dude, you should Totally consider Monastery Mentor in the deck. He becomes a problem really fast. Most of the time hell get bolted or decayed, but when you've baited all the decays drop him and they're instantly in trouble. It works amazingly with Narsets-2 and azorius charm.
April 22, 2015 3:13 p.m.
Could you imagine if somebody was playing Ugin, the Spirit Dragon in Voltron and you cast Voidslime in response to a -5 they planned on exiling Vensor the P-Walker with? That would just be disgusting. You could then finish it off with Giest, Snap or a Myth Realized.

I can imagine it, and it would just be awesome to see that incredulous and desperate look in the eyes of your opponent.

Lol yep. You should check out This bant be happening... kengiczar I think it's going to be the new azorius control.

Upward-SaGa About Monastery Mentor, you are right, he is a real pain in the ass for the enemies, but I do not see him widely played in modern, don't know why.. Maybe for the same reason I don't see Soulfire Grand Master, they are beasts but very weak to any removal. Anyway I'm goin to think about him!

Upward-SaGa says... #11
Yeah, i understand. Even if he doesn't stick its one less uncancelable removal out of their deck. He's just good in heavy cancel decks because he can be protected.

Upward-SaGa kengiczar What do you guys think of Redirect? Cause I was wondering if it could be nice to put 3 of them in the mainboard, removing those 2 Spellskite and something else, in order to achieve the same goal, protecting my Myth Realized when it becomes a creature or even myself, or any other card that I care about. I know that Spellskite is just so stronge because it can change also the target of an ability, but Redirect costs so less in terms of money, and it also has a good synergy with Myth Realized, Snapcaster Mage and Narset Transcendent.

I think Skite is more of a SB card. He's good, but not MB. We can fit stronger stuff MB. Honestly, Myth Realized is a easily decayed or dismembered. You could put something else in it's place to make the deck more "control". Cryptic Command should be definitely considered as it is just broken in blue. I assume you're not running it because of price, but you really only need 2. I would drop the myths and add a third sphere, a third Giest, and 2 Cryptic.

The only deck I can see Monastery Mentor working with for modern is Esper Control.
The only way I can see redirect working for a non-heroic deck is if you play in the side and have man lands and other cheap drops like Myth Realized and your whole plan is to win even if it takes something crazy like 5 uses of Elixir of Immortality because you're playing such hard control.
If your not doing that you'll have situations where they try to kill your creature and their is nothing to redirect Path of Exile or Abrupt Decay to. True, if they have creatures you can hit theirs and it's especially funny to redirect an Abrupt Decay onto Liliana of the Veil but scenarios like these are to rare to bank on.
Heroic has a big advantage with Redirect because if you kill something like Glistener Elf in response to a Giant Growth they can in response activate Inkmoth Nexus and put their Giant Growth onto that, then swing for big infect.
I find Spellskite superior to Redirect also because he can steal the buff from a Kessig Wolf Run if your against something like Primeval Titan. You then untap and hit it with Path to Exile. With redirect if you have no other creatures or are tapped out you'll just be hit for a ton of Titan damage. They'll also put more lands out and have an easy time casting their second and possibly third Titan.
Vs burn Redirect is still not as good as Spellskite unless they main artifact hate. It blocks Goblin Guide something fierce and if they waste a Lightning Bolt onto it then your drawing the game way past the turn they waned to win by.
If there are to many games where Myth Realized just dies I would just put 1-2 in the side and only bring them in against something like Mono discard, along with some Elixir of Immortality.

thank you guys, I'm actually thinking if it's better to reduce the number of Myth Realized or to give up on it. I love it, but it's really useful only if I play it in the first turn and it's also too easy to remove. Elixir of Immortality is a thing I will consider, while Cryptic Command is effectively one of the best cards ever for blue, but it has a price too high for me to afford, at least right now.

Hello, it's me again. :) I was just checking out the SB and wondering why Gideon Jura is in there? Threads of Disloyalty also raises a question for me. Why not Sower of Temptation? It avoids decay and let's you take anything. I also think Spellskite would be a nice addition in the SB as a 2 of against decks like twin and infect.
April 30, 2015 12:19 a.m.
This looks like a lot of fun. Has there ever been a card that you repeatedly thought of while playing this at modern tournaments? If not I might start modern here instead of Esper.

Upward-SaGa Hello, again :) it's a pleasure to have you back! By the way, Gideon Jura is in against creature based decks and he's great because of his versatility, he can act as a fog tapping creatures, can assassinate, can resist day of, attacking later as a 6/6. I think he's amazing, but it's also true that for 5 mana you could probably find better things. Up to you. Threads of Disloyalty is in SB mostly because of Tarmogoyf. Unlike Sower of Temptation, it might actually resist more on the board, since it's not a weak creature. About Spellskite, you are absolutely right, it's a great card, particularly against those decks you mentioned, but its price is way high right now, and I also wouldn't know what to remove for it.
kengiczar Hello again, also to you :) if I'd play esper, I'd go for sure with the hand disruption cards as Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize, with the amazing Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Creeping Tar Pit and also a single copy of Mystical Teachings to go and get whatever I need in late game.
Hope that I answered well to you guys, and any piece of advice is - as always - appreciated.

you could probably drop a Leyline of Sanctity and a Timely Reinforcements just fine as Spellskite does help against burn, too. You're so right on the price, though. xd Threads of Disloyalty is good, and you're right. Thing is if you're taking Goyf, they've got an abrupt decay or maelstrom pulse to answer to it. With Sower of Temptation they have to waste their singleton dismember or a Path to Exile, and giving you another land for a control deck. It just seems like a better thing to use sower, as we dont care how many decays we use. (Speaking as a fellow junk mage because i do this a lot and sower has really upset me when they took my rhino and i have a decay in hand but nothing else)

really digging control atm, blue feels so fresh to me after playing primarily within Naya colours for two years plus you see very little of it in the format anymore so in that respect it feels fresh as well. +1 from me :)
Have you considered Tamiyo, the Moon Sage? helps against aggro which considering majority of decks what to kill you with creatures is good, her minus ability is pretty nice with Cryptic Command. Last deck list i went full control on was As High As Honor. tried it out online and won allot but didn't have any of the cards at the time, may well revisit it now that i'm collecting my way into blue :)

In your desc, it seems like you think that Narset copies EVERYTHING about the card. It doesn't copy X, X would be zero on the copy.

Upward-SaGa says... #22
Maringam is correct. Narset does rebound the spell, but x is zero. Meaning it's a dead spell for utility. However, you can still flashback it and pay the x to re-use the card with Snapcaster Mage because you are technically "casting" the card again, and therefore able to pay the "x" in it's CMC.

Zur-En-Arrh says... #23
I didn't get the point, what are you talking about of Narset? Notice also that, until now, I never used her rebound ability.

Breaksk8r1992 says... #24
It seems they think you're talking about Narset rebounding Visions and Rev, when to me it seems you're simply talking about each of them as three separate draw engines. Also, Dragonlord Ojutai and a single Minamo, School at Water's Edge would be awesome in the deck. He can overtake games by himself once he comes out. Super hard to get rid of, and a major draw engine all in one. You might also look into White Sun's Zenith as another Win-Con. It can be pretty stupid with the Calciform Pools you have in there. From what I've played with both U/W Control and Esper Control, I'd take out either a Remand or a Spell Snare for a third Cryptic Command because it has so much more value to it especially late game, which you're going for playing control. Not sure what you'd give up, but Kitchen Finks is wonderful against Burn. Another wonderful, terrible combo would be to swap out Shackles, a single Resto Angel, and one land for Wurmcoil Engine, Engineered Explosives, and Academy Ruins. Explosives can get rid of everything in Burn, almost everything in Jund, Tarmogoyfs and Scavenging Oozes in Abzan, played for 0 against Tokens, and then you can recur it with Academy Ruins. It can really mess up someone's day, and let's face it, if you're playing control, you love telling people no haha.

Breaksk8r1992 oh, thank you for the explanations, and you are absolutely right, I mean they are 3 different draw engines. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear, I'm italian and probably not so good in descriptions. By the way, thank you also for the rest of the comment, you gave me some very good ideas: I loved Dragonlord Ojutai since the first day I saw it, but everybody kept telling me that it would have been a beast in standard, while not good enough for modern. Shame on me that I let them convince me. With Minamo, School at Water's Edge it's just dope. White Sun's Zenith was already in my maybeboard, but I'm still not sure about it, I mean it seems great as a finisher and I'd never have a problem with those 3 white symbols, but for now, I'll stay without it, even if its interaction with Calciform Pools might be undoubtedly awesome. About the third Cryptic Command you are always right, I wish I could put my hands on it, and also on a fourth Snapcaster Mage, but for now there's no way I can. About the last three cards you mentioned, let me say that I love them all, Wurmcoil Engine in particular, but I do not think I'd be so happy going down to 23 lands, since I need mana to control the board and also because I play 3 Celestial Colonnade. However, I confirm that I appreciated your comment so much and that I'll take your hints in strong consideration. Probably I'll drop one copy of Remand, or Spell Snare, or even Elspeth, Sun's Champion, for the amazing Dragonlord Ojutai.
