Missing Doran staples: Wave of Reckoning , Mentor of the Meek , Marble Titan , Oathsworn Giant , Crackdown

You might want to consider more versatile removal: Mortify , Putrefy , Maelstrom Pulse , Austere Command .

Overall, the creature base is pretty random. I would choose a flavor theme and stick to it, treefolk tribal (Timber Protector , Leaf-Crowned Elder , toughness lords (Veteran Armorsmith , Blessed Orator ), low power high toughness aggro (Grizzled Leotau , Skinshifter ), or even walls with Animate Wall on Tree of Redemption .

The reason I didn't go with a tribal theme was because a lot of the tree folk are kind of week on their own. Also I'm trying to stick to things that have a toughness lower than 3 due to various Meekstone type effects. A few of the things that you have named are in my maybe board though such as Marble Titan and Tree of Redemption . I think you may have missed a few things as well because Maelstrom Pulse and Crackdown are both in the main already. I'll look at some of your other suggestions though such as Mentor of the Meek and Wave of Reckoning . If you haven't already counted, the deck is still under 100.

Thanks !

I'm also trying to keep the 4 or more costed non-creature spells to a minimum for Gaddock Teeg . But I do like Austere Command , thanks !

Why is Breeding Pool in here

What do you think of Xathrid Gorgon for this deck? He is five colorless mana to cast so you will never have problems with color in getting her out, he can immobilize commanders with her ability, and on her own she is, for this deck's purposes, a 6/6 deathtouch. Worth looking at imo.

Breeding Pool out lol that was a mistake thanks !

The thing I don't like about Xathrid Gorgon is that she turns other creatures into defenders - and that doesn't help me win. She does have death touch, but I'd be afraid to attack with her because A) she would be a likely target to kill and B) I'd be afraid that I would have to send her back to my hand or that she couldn't un-tap due to various effects that I have in my deck. She also might not be able to attack if Ensnaring Bridge is out.

Thanks for the suggestion though, I will keep it in mind !

I think I want to try the Rhox Faithmender . I don't have a life gain theme going, but with Doran, the Siege Tower , out he alone will gain me ten life while also hitting for 5. Also if I have a Basilisk Collar equipped to anyone, it would gain double.

What do you guys think ?

I think life gain is irrelevant unless you're constantly pinging yourself with Bitterblossom , Phyrexian Arena , Necropotence , Fetchlands, bla bla bla, OR plan on winning by Felidar Sovereign , Test of Endurance , Storm Herd , etc.

Most all losses in EDH are by combo, general damage, or getting hardcore locked out of a game. Lifegain wouldn't help you in any of those situations. IDK

My play group doesn't really use crazy combos though. We like to sit down and play longer games just hanging out rather than a bunch of quick ones where players "go off." I think I'm going to try him just a few games until i find something else that i feel is better there, because with Doran, the Siege Tower out, Rhox Faithmender will still be a beating that can work well with Reveillark and Karmic Guide while still getting under the various Meekstone and Ensnaring Bridge type effects

Does anyone see which card(s) are keeping this deck from being EDH/Commander legal ?

I am fairly new to building with older cards (started at the release of M12) and do not know which cards cannot be played. Thanks for the help, and if I find it, I will post a comment to maybe help other players that might not have known.

I've checked the banned list and couldn't find anything in my list that was on there. I thought tapped out used to show legal formats edh/commander but it is just showing vintage now. If anybody sees a card that is not legal though, please let me know.

I was reading through the comment thread on here, and noticed a while back (Nov 20th) you commented on creatures of Toughness greater than 3 due to Meekstone effects. Just a clarification for you. Doran, the Siege Tower doesn't switch the Power and Toughness aspects. He only assigns damage via Toughness instead of Power.

Example: Kami of Old Stone will still be able to untap if there is a Meekstone in play. Also, in the case of Ensnaring Bridge , Kami of Old Stone would be able to attack, as long as you had 1 card in hand.

Hope that helps!

Hey thanks

I meant to say power/attack anyways ( not toughness) because that's what Meekstone checks.

Sorry for that, but thanks again for pointing it out !

I actually had Birds of Paradise in but am trying Deathrite Shaman in its place (Just more versatility and easier to cast). I haven't seen Utopia Tree before, so thanks for that ! I don't want to many defenders though because I want to be sure that I have enough creatures without having to go the my defenders attack route.

  • I am working on getting the rest of the cards that I am missing, so I haven't played it yet, but I am super excited to try it out with my friends ! Hopefully I will have what I need before the end of the year !

I do like the card replacement on the above creatures though with the enter the battlefield card draw :)

what about Tree of Redemption ?

Aelorith2117 says... #21

also are there enough lands going to graveyards in your playgroup for Deathrite Shaman to be useful mana production?

December 17, 2012 11:53 a.m.

Aelorith2117 says... #22

maybe if you ran some cycle lands like Barren Moor , Tranquil Thicket , Secluded Steppe or even Archaeological Dig to get card advantage and still get some mana....

December 17, 2012 12:03 p.m.

This deck contradicts itself by having Gaddock Teeg and several 4+ CMC non creature spells. It defeats the purpose.

I'm very tired when looking at this, but I'm only counting three ... How is that several in a 100 card deck ? and those three (that im counting) are something I don't mind breaking Gaddock Teeg 's rule for. It's not like he is going to be out the entire game ( I'm pretty sure someone at the table will want him gone) ? Sorry if I'm coming off strong, but like I said I'm tired, and I just felt like you we're trying to make a point about a card that's not really going to have that much of an effect on me.

True. just was wondering why they were together.
