Awesome deck! How have Timber Protector and Sapling of Colfenor been working out for you? They always seemed a bit to slow whenever I tried them in my mono-green variant.

Thanks man. I've noticed that 1 copy of Timber Protector gets sideboarded almost every game, which had me considering removing 1 completely and Sapling of Colfenor has been surprisingly great ever since I started running it. 2 might be too much but I'm not sure. Both cards are great, but colfenor is optional. Cheating out fatties is easy with this list :)

I really want to include 2x Summoning Trap in the side and maybe 1 Guttural Response, but don't know what remove.. Everything there is useful atm. Please help me!

Hey there, I read the comments, saw your dillema regarding the sideboard and Summoning Trap.

in the Side, Clip Wings does seem a bit underwhelming, i can se where it would work, but i can argue that any hate against Blue or control like Asceticism, Duress or even Summoning Trap could shine!!

Clip Wings is solely for Emrakul, either of them. They are a thing in modern too. But now that the Troll saw the banhammer, I think I'll replace both Putrefys with the traps. Thanks for your imput!

I'm also not sure dropping Progenitus to 2, since I really need 1 in my opening against Goyf or Living End.. I wonder if Guttural Response is good enough to replace 1 Relic.

Have you given any thoughts to Vexing Shusher ?

What about Metallic Mimic ?

Both contribute to Leaf-crowned elders effect. I have not tried them, but they could be fun.

It actually is in my Gruul EDH deck, but havent really considered it for modern at all.. I might though, since it is a shaman and a creature!

The mimic im not so sure about and it doesnt have any interaction with the Elder either.

Oh, just realized the Slusher can make creatures cast through the Elder uncounterable, where Cavern can't. And Cavern does it for the hard cast. Not sure if it's still worthy though. Summoning trap costs 0 where Slusher cost 1, though you have 7 top decked to choose from with trap, hence not giving what you need every time. Tough choise :o

I'm pretty sure i commented on this list before, but i have to say that it looks just amazing. You've put so much work into this. Awesome, dude!

I would really appreciate if you took a look at my own 'pet deck': My snake deck (that title took me two weeks...)

I really don't want to seem like the Debbie Downer, more like a voice of reason and moral ambiguity. There are card choices in here I very so would support like Dungrove Elder for obvious valuable reasons, more so I believe retain in a Fatal Push meta.
However, there are just too many card choices I cannot and do not support. Some just because the amount and others, at all. I could not call this a competitively placed deck, unless your LGS is very much more along the line of budget or more-so casual. Do no confuse this with me saying the deck it bad, or choices are bad. I do not do that to people, and I understand many peoples' directions in which they build. That is not being argued here. Again there are just too many missing cards here like Spellskite, Assault Formation, Nyx-Fleece Ram, toolbox potential cards like Selfless Spirit, and Fiend Hunter. The tribal-theme outweighing more visibly playable cards along the same strategy, is choice. If that is exactly what you want then that's you but cards by specific name that I believe are being ignored here are Collected Company, Chord of Calling, Path to Exile (Crib Swap is no where near the strength of Path, but I understand it as a 1-of), and Scavenging Ooze.
I feel like this is a question that always itches at the back of your mind, and maybe many people have questioned also, but, is the Treefolk-tribal theme, actually strong enough?

Oh man, don't apologize for constructive critisism. It's not like you said "Your deck sucks" :D But yeah there is a lot to break down with a deck I haven't played in a while, but I'll try.

Dungrove Elder has been the MVP even before Fatal Push, that's for sure. A definite playset. As for the venues, I don't actually own this on fully paper yet (Got a few cards to sell from mm17 though) and my whole meta is what is played on mtg:o tournament practice. There are insanely strong decks played there and this still fared close to 50/50 winrate at the later stages of testing. This list also revolves heavily on Treefolk Harbinger tutoring and anti-noncreature. Chord and CoCo might be okay as 1ofs. I've tried both for a bit. I also have a playset of paths so thats not the reason I don't include them, It's just that I can combo the Cribs when needed. Ooze was in the original SB but I just preferred Rest in Peace or Relic of Progenitus for gravehate and make the combat damage happen with just treefolk. I also tried Assaul Formations for a long time but just decided to take them out since I'm not running Birds or Tower Defense. This list doesnt swing otk's, but rather grind it out every game. Spellskite has been on my to get list for a long time and Selfless Spirit looks really nice too. I also have to admit, that I have a strong bias towards treefolk tribal, ever since I decided to make them work a long time ago :) Really appreciate your time and thoughts!

The Great Deku Tree is what I had been playing, I too grind out games but keep pressure on pretty well, and have potential to ohko, but not Tower Defense style. I spec it as being the counter to Ensnaring Bridge decks if they really start to muddle the meta, but I don't have a strong enough card base on mtgo yet so I don't play on there too much. I haven't tried adapting to the new meta yet, I'm trying to pin down where it will settle first before I decide on changes.

You have a bit more traditional Abzan list and I like it. If you ever take it out for a spin, let me know the results mate! My time and money are going to my new born daughter, so mtg is going on another hiatus besides casual gaming.

decendants path could be good addition for playing free creatures

Naksu says... #20

Thanks, treefolk has fun synergies! I ran Descendants' Path at one point, but cut it because it's a non-creature and over commitment as a mechanic with a playset of Leaf-Crowned Elders.

Oh man this deck looks like a blast! I would love to build this but my god I didn't realize how expensive treefolk could be D:

Naksu says... #23

If you aim to make it competitive, it tends to get pricey with just the staple cards you have to use. The goal of this deck can be achieved with less than 100$, though as a little slower version. I've been thinking of building a budget version of this cause so many people clearly shows interest, but is shunned by the price. In the future :)

Bengernaut says... #24

I'm trying to put together a budget version of this so I can get a core going and then slowly gather the expensive pieces I need for it. If it's any good I'll comment again with a link. Either way, your deck is a blast. Nice job!
