Fabled Hero would be good

I would put in more all around boost to your soldiers rather than individually boosting with +1/+1 counters. Try Shared Triumph,Field Marshal, Daru Warchief or Honor of the Pure. The faster you can get soldiers out and swam the field the better meaning lower casting cost for everything. Also more removal of some sort whether its Path to Exile or even Wing Shards. Nobody sees Wing Shards coming ever. I've had a soldier deck for years and I'm constantly updating it with new cards. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/soldiers-12-09-12-1/

chrisstick- i used to have a build centered around anthem effects but i found that it ran out of steam really quickly. If some more good human soldier allies come out for BfZ, i might end up staying with this one

I would definitely add in 4x Path to Exile over Swords to Plowshare because its one thing giving them a land drop versus giving them back life in aggro. I would take out both Hada Freeblade and Kazandu Blademaster because they are your only two allies in deck the rest are just soldiers. Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip is more important than you think because he's a 2/1 for 1cc with the ability to become indestructible! Once he flips he become a 5/5 with first strike who can't take damage from any creatures. Talk about having to block him every time. His plus 1 is even better giving any creature indestructibility and untaps them until your next turn.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I fail to see why Hada Freeblade and Kazandu Blademaster are bad in this deck because they are allies. they're also soldiers that benefit from anything like the rest of the deck. If anything, they're an upgrade, having the ability to get stronger by drawing multiples.

I considered Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip but in the end decided that the cost (which is a concern for me) was not worth the benefit. The earliest I can get him to flip is turn 3, assuming he doesn't die with that one toughness unless i pay for indestructibility. But i'd much rather play Field Marshal, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, or even Preeminent Captain. And he's not even amazing if he does flip. If i'm going to invest so many resources into him, i want him to have an immediate impact which he doesn't really do.

I do think I can find room for some removal though. I can probably take out a Champion of the Parish and a Captain of the Watch, but any ideas for what else? maybe Preeminent Captain?

but, if I can get my hands on a kytheon, then for sure. its better than Soldier of the Pantheon considering the decks i play against

My Soldier deck Heroic White Soldiers runs off of Heroic and Enchantments. Try some of those Theros-block enchantments and instants.

TyroMaven- how has that deck been working for you? seems too inconsistent and without a central goal. Also, what do you suggest for this deck. I don't have much experience with heroic as it comes off as an underwhelming ability to me

tempest, I was suggesting the Enchantments - Ordeal of Heliod for one. Your deck already has Brimaz, King of Oreskos, Captain of the Watch, and Field Marshal, so it's great with Soldiers. I took out a lot of the token-generators from mine, since nothing really flowed with tokens except for Odric, Master Tactician.

Basically what I was trying to do with my deck was put several weenie soldiers on the field, and buff the crap out of them right before they attack (helloooo, Mighty Leap!) I need to rethink if I want to buff them at sorcery-speed with more Equips, too, now that I've added Relic Seeker.

Back to your deck, though. I'd definitely recommend Obelisk of Urd if you're using a lot of the same creature type.

Consider adding Ethereal Armor, Feat of Resistance, or Glaring Aegis if you want to go defensive. Dauntless Onslaught and/or Defiant Strike for more offense.

With 22 lands, you aren't really able to play Captain of the Watch consistently. I'd swap him for removal of any kind and try to get rid of Allies. Freeblade is just an 0/1 if you don't get multiples. Even Elite Vanguard has two more power for the same cost. Great deck, anyway!

hmm. i guess i didn't ever reply to you TyroMaven. sorry. anyways, the whole thing with tokens is that they all get buffed from Field Marshal and Captain of the Watch and even if i don't get these 2, the deck can just as easily win on quantity.

Kraljina101- thats what Preeminent Captain is for. Hada Freeblade is a 1/2 that gets bigger with other freeblades or Kazandu Blademasters. i was hoping for some good human soldier ally creatures in BFZ/OGW but alas, they were all mediocre or required the deck to change focus :/

Which of your tribal decks would you say is the best.

Ballyrush Banneret and Daru Warchief are both fantastic. I run a play set of each in my soldier deck.

I would say that elves or goblins is the best tribe. Leaning towards goblins just because they have haste to go with them.

Would get rid of the allies and add raise the alarm play set

November 8, 2016 12:24 a.m.

tempest says... #18

i don't understand what the problem people have with the allies is. Raise the Alarm is great especially since its an instant, but i'd prefer not to have to use Abzan Falconer to put counters on it, when the allies will do it themselves. What am I missing?

November 8, 2016 1:40 a.m.

KillerMoose91 says... #19

The problem with the allies is that it only boosts the allies but with adding raise the alarm those token creatures will gain the benefits of everything else and add a good buffer to defend with.

tempest says... #20

the allies that i have chosen, Kazandu Blademaster and Hada Freeblade, are both soldiers so they gain the benefits of everything else as well. on top of that, blademaster also has vigilance and first strike. and on top of that, the tokens aren't humans, so they don't gain from Thalia's Lieutenant and don't benefit said lieutenant or Champion of the Parish. the only thing keeping this deck from being a human deck really, is Preeminent Captain. The only valid point i see so far is that Raise the Alarm is an instant, but I don't think it's that important... unless someone can convince me otherwise

Thanks! The creature interaction of this deck helped me create a deck that helped me beat my wife's Merfolk deck that I've been having trouble consistently beating. =)

haha no problem! Glad I was able to help you gain the upperhand :]

Cernunnos56 says... #23

Yeah. It was kind of a shame. I've been playing (off and on) since 1997, and no matter what I do none of my decks can beat it consistently. Even my best ones. It's kind of frustrating, because I just taught her how to play this past year, and it's her very first deck! lol! And me with all my experience, it's kind of hard. Anyways thanks again.

haha. good luck in the future my man.

also, link the decks using double brackets like this [ [tribal deck: soldiers] ] but without the spaces between them so it becomes Tribal Deck: Soldiers. Your links are showing up as errors so i can't see them
