Tribal Faeries - Oona, Queen of the Fae

Commander / EDH Faeries UB (Dimir)

Enchantment (1)

Casual Oona, Queen of the Fae tribal faerie deck. No infinite mana combos since it's meant for casual. Fun mix of mill and faerie tribal, good for 1v1 and multiplayer.

I've probably won an equal amount of times through commander damage, milling out an opponent, and combat damage with anthem effects or a coat of arms finisher and having a bunch of faeries on the field. It's deceptively powerful having a deck where almost every creature you play has flying. One of the reasons I settled on faerie tribal is that trying to go super heavy into mill in EDH feels kind of slow sometimes unless you're going for an infinite combo to instantly get everyone at the table. In which case, it could be any number of infinite combos that instantly win you the game and doesn't really have the same feel as milling opponents without that. That's why I like having the faerie tribal instead of just mill, because thematically it's fun, and it's a plan you can go with earlier in the game to win or at least stall out opponents a little and if the game goes the distance, you're able to close it out with mill. Another big thing that's nice is oona's ability can be activated at instant speed obviously, so you can save mana for counterspells or responses and then at the end of their turn, you can always dump any excess mana into oona.

Some of the cards that are stronger than you might realize is: Azor's Gateway if you ever get it to flip, it still provides you with sifting through cards you don't need and getting stuff you do even if it doesn't get to flip. Inkfathom Witch, it's ability changes the unblocked faeries, which all have flying, to 4/1 base power and toughness, so any additional counters or anthem effects still buff them. This can pack a very powerful punch with only a few faeries, especially if you have anything making them stronger. sphinx's tutelage, which is one of two cards dedicated to mill in the deck. The deck has a lot of draw built into it, especially with consecrated sphinx and sire of stagnation, this can put people in range to finish them off with a single mind grind or just using Oona's ability. Cloud of Faeries, which can interact with flipped Azor's gateway and Nykthox, Shrine to Nyx. And Notorious Throng, the prowl cost not only giving you the extra faeries but also giving you an extra turn, which has lead to a strong one - two last punches to win games.

The deck has diversified threats, making it have more replay value and less predictability from opponents. I've had a lot of fun with this deck and it's not too overloaded with control and mill, which can be tiresome sometimes for opponents to play against.

If you want to make the deck cheaper, I would take out: Chromatic lantern for any other mana rock of your choice, bitterblossom, which is a fun flavor card but not necessary for the deck, Leyline of Anticipation, which is good but again still not necessary. The cards that taking out would hurt the deck a little but could be necessary depending on your budget would be: Mana Vault, Watery Grave, Rhystic Study

Some good replacements could be: Knowledge Exploitation, Rapid Hybridization, Archetype of Imagination, Oblivion Sower, Imprisoned in the Moon, Training Grounds, Dreamspoiler Witches, Clever Impersonator, and Faerie Swarm
