Nice deck. In goldfish playtesting it seems to make impulsive drawing fun yet practical, as the OK deck MV + Treasures lets you typically cast exiled cards.

Nitpicking feedback: Gonti, Lord of Luxury doesn't seem worth it without a flicker source, unless your meta is heavy on topdeck tutors (yes, I see Scheming Symmetry ). It's pretty much an unexciting body with Shimmer of Possibility attached except usually worse because stolen cards, on average, synergize worse with your deck than your own cards. I'm more okay with your other card stealers as they're all some combination of being cheaper, more reliable, reusable, and stealing trough some form of control.

Oh and as boring as it is, I'd recommend upping your land count to 37; I go by this rule of thumb:

Number of lands = 31 + amount of colors in commander’s color identity + commander CMC, with 0-CMC mana rocks counting as lands.

Ugh sorry, but finally: I think Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor can be cut for similar reasons as Gonti; at MV 7 I think a card should give you a great advantage within a turn at least, but Tibby is a typically gradual value 'Walker.

THAT'S IT, NO MORE NITPICKING FROM ME

(...I hope...)

Hi Coward_Token, thank you for the feedback! Gonti definitely would be better with a flicker source, like maybe a Conjurer's Closet , but I'm not sure if I would want to include it just for Gonti. I'll keep him on a new mental shortlist of possible cuts if he feels underwhelming.

Similarly, I was kinda off on Tibalt when it was first spoiled. I thought that 7 MV for the backside would be difficult for BR(x) decks to achieve without some additional Green ramp or ritual support. I like the flexibility that both sides offer, and could see myself playing the front side, even if it is like a pseudo-removal of a creature from hand that I could copy. My meta has a lot of variety, so I can find something worth while.

This deck originally started at 36 lands, then I cut one basic yesterday to squeeze in Inspiring Statuary . I think if I cut anything first, Statuary might get the axe. On paper, I like the idea of using it to bank up Treasures, Clues, and Food; although it does kind of non-bo with Mayhem Devil and Disciple of the Vault , and is kind of a dead card if I don't have the treasures/etc for it.

I felt like I hit my land drops maybe too consistently when I played Prosper IRL this past Monday lol. Pretty much every card he exiled with Mystic Arcanum was a land, and this happened like 5 times in a row. It's just one game of course, but between that and usually having 3-4 treasures, I felt comfortable at the current land count. I think I usually play 35-36 lands in most of my decks with similar average MVs, and also about 10+ ramp sources depending on the colors I'm in. If I feel mana starved I'll keep your land count suggestion in mind.

Now that I think about it Coward_Token, I'm also feeling pretty iffy about Wild-Magic Sorcerer . Each time I've play-tested it, I end up Cascading into a spell that I wouldn't necessarily want to play then. Since most of the stuff I would want to play from exile is on the cheaper end, MV-wise, it also doesn't give me a lot of wiggle room for spells to Cascade into.

Yeah you'd probably need to cut back on nonpermanent & ETB cards in order to not whiff with that

Dang, good looking out Coward_Token. I guess I can take Surge to Victory off my maybeboard for similar reasons.

Coward_Token… I care because you do

I just cut Mizzix Mastery thanks to your comments here and satisfied my curiosity about whether Ciphering the big black Pox-y sorcery onto something would be spicy with Prosper (apparently not)

babydaggers for similar reasons I trimmed out most, if not all Rebound, Cascade, and Madness cards from my initial build like 3 weeks ago. Just felt kinda bad to get some of those things in Exile without the top-deck manipulation beforehand. Thanks again for the nit-picking Coward_Token

Spicy! I've been playing a Kalain, Reclusive Painter Brawl deck on Arena and your list makes me wanna pull the trigger on the pre-con.

Apex of Power

Prosper is a lot of fun tiffanyann. I've considered Kalain for this list, but mostly for flavor reasons. I'm currently in a D&D campaign with some friends, where I'm a Half-Elf Bard and my friend is a Tiefling Warlock. I was considering getting Kalain and Prosper altered to look like our D&D characters.

Apex of Power seems like it would be fun to pull off at least once. I'm pretty sure that it was part of the pre-con. I'll be getting some more games in with Prosper tomorrow night, and I'll update this list with my thoughts on how things go.

One thing to watch out for with Apex is that you don't get the mana if you cast it from exile

Have you considered the interaction between Storm-Kiln Artist and the addition of Chain of Smog? I know it’s a bit overdone to combo Chain with magecraft, but it facilitates a load of mana and a potential wincon off Revel in Riches as well.

Crow_Umbra says... #16

Thanks for the suggestion Kalkris. I honestly hadn't considered that combo for this deck. I think after the Chain of Smog + Professor Onyx combo blew up, it fell off my radar. The endless spoiler seasons have also made it harder to keep track of everything lol.

The only combo I was considering adding so far was Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame; I figured Dualcaster could be a decent value piece for copying spells, regardless of the combo. After the couple of games I played this weekend, I have been kicking the idea around the back of my mind of a more spell-slinger dedicated Prosper list. At the very least, I'd like to add maybe one or two more pieces of instant speed interaction, perhaps Withering Boon

Been keeping eyes on this and I think your deck is really shaping up. I certainly want to play it lol. I don't think it's fair to call this a precon upgrade anymore lol, this is a Prosper deck

Thank you d_iros, I've had a lot of fun brewing and playing the deck so far. I want to get some more games in with the deck in its current form before I make anymore changes. Documenting brewing considerations and updating the primer is fun for me too, so I'll try to keep this as up-to-date as possible.

In the games I have played, I've noticed that my 2 favorite things to exile with Prosper are Lands and instant speed interaction. Even though opponents can see what instants are exiled with Prosper, it does act as a bit of a dissuasion for one turn rotation.

At this rate, I think the next 2-3 cards I might try to squeeze in are Withering Boon, Abrade, and maaayyyybbeeee Chain of Smog for a combo option with Storm-Kiln Artist and the artifact burn creature package. Just need a few more games to see what underperforms.

Kalkris says... #19

So, while it’s not 100% synergistic with the deck, if you add in Chain of Smog as per my suggestion, you’d be behooved (heh heh) to add in at least one more Magecraft card, like Sedgemoor Witch, I’d expect. Not only does this add a bit more interlocking synergy but it also provides you with a theoretical go-wide wincon.

As for a cut if you need it, I’ve actually found that Author of Shadows sort of underperforms at 5mv for me. That’s my personal recommendation to cut, but there may be more than that. That’s what I saw right away though. How does it perform for you specifically?

August 15, 2021 7:32 p.m.

Crow_Umbra says... #20

Thanks for the additional suggestions Kalkris. Sedgemoor Witch is a pretty interesting suggestion. I hadn't really considered it before. I definitely wouldn't mind a handful of Pests as chump blockers (most of the time), which could be a go-wide win-con with Chain of Smog.

I've only played Author of Shadows in a couple of the games I've played this deck so far. I think I have enough decks in my play group's meta that utilize their graveyards to make Author worth it for now. Here is a fairly up to date snapshot of the various commanders in my meta. This is our updated meta page on Moxfield (lol). It does feel a bit slow for the effect it has, so I'll consider it as a potential cut.

I'm a bit tempted to slot in Share the Spoils as a more goofy/interactive effect for some reason. I've also considered Chandra, Fire Artisan as a potential cut, but not necessarily for Share the Spoils. I think I have enough draw -impulse & otherwise - that I figured I could use the slot for another piece of interaction (or Chain of Smog).

My personal takes on what could be cut next for any updates are Karazikar and Disrupt Decorum. I get wanting to have these cards for fun but if there are potential inclusions that synergize with Prosper or your wincons, I note these as cards that do not further these goals (unless I'm missing something with goad). However I could see myself keeping them in just for fun. I like the direction you've taken the deck and ultimately the decision is yours. Cheers

August 16, 2021 7:40 p.m.

Crow_Umbra says... #22

Thanks d_iros! I'd say that Karazikar and Disrupt Decorum are both meta-call inclusions, kinda similarly to how Author of Shadows was. My playgroup spans the Casual Spectrum lol, so board states can get creature heavy at times. There is a Marisi, Breaker of the Coil deck in our meta that does fairly well for that reason. I've run Disrupt Decorum in another deck to decent enough effect. In the times its been played, Disrupt Decorum had a pseudo board-wipe effect, thinned out boards, and usually bought the caster some time to assemble a combo or re-establish their board.

I think if I had to pick between the two, I'd likely cut Karazikar first. I figured the mutual draw would be incentivizing enough to keep some heat off me, and its ability to tap & Goad could help open up some lanes for my smaller attackers.

Cutting Karazikar could give Chandra, Fire Artisan a spot to land back, or even Blasphemous Act, which usually comes down for 1 mana in our games lol.

Not for nothing, but have you seen the Smog combo go off yet in either capacity? If so, how did it do?

August 21, 2021 6 p.m.

Crow_Umbra says... #24

I haven't played any games recently to try out the combo yet Kalkris. I will be playing a bunch of games on 8/28 for a friend's birthday party. Our play group is going to do an afternoon of games & turn it into a tourney of sorts.

In go-fish playtesting, I've "pulled off" the combo about 3 times, once with Storm-Kiln & Reckless Fireweaver, and once with Sedgemoor. I think each time I pulled off the combo, I had Pyroblast or Tibalts Trickery either in hand or in Impulse Exile for potential interaction.

I'm hoping to pull the combo off at least once irl

August 21, 2021 7:14 p.m.

Might I suggest Syr Carah, the Bold? She's an easy impulse draw even with the potential for more than one trigger per turn. Also, Uba Mask is great with Prosper.
