Sideboard

Creature (3)

Sorcery (3)

This deck is one I have been working on for a while. Ever since I opened my first RTR Fat Pack and pulled a Lotleth Troll and an Abrupt Decay, I have been determined to make a standard Golgari deck. After Reaper of the Wilds came out in Theros, my plans were finally coming to fruition. Herald of Torment sealed the deal by adding the little bit of versatility the deck needed.

There are a couple of basic win conditions for this deck:

  1. Reaper of the Wilds: On its own, it does work. Combined with the vast amounts of removal in this deck, it provides more than enough scry triggers to keep my game going smoothly. The fact that it is a 4/5 with a built in protection ability also helps me put my opponent on the spot. When enchanted with Herald of Torment (which also does work on its own), it becomes an unstoppable 7/8 flier that beats face faster that you can say "I concede".

  2. Lotleth Troll: Even though I only run two, he is still one of my favorites in this deck (and the game in general). Racing RDW aggro or burn? Dump your hand (and even scavenge a Slitherhead or two) to out-race them. Big threat on the other side of the board? Regeneratable blocker to the rescue! Much like our friend Reaper of the Wilds, Mr. Troll here also beats face when enchanted with Herald of Torment. But then again, who doesn't?

  3. Dreg Mangler: Never underestimate this guy. Whether top decked late game and used to feed the troll or used as a chump blocker, or dropped turn two to put the pressure on, he does work. Period. I am almost never unhappy to see this guy.

  4. The Waiting Game: You can also just sit on your hands until you drop an army of unstoppable beasts and keep the board clean with your removal spells. That works too.
