Treefolk are my absolute very favorite creature type, and this deck here is practically my child. I've worked with it for years and played with it countless times. Trees are so wonderful, both in magic and in life, and playing them makes me happy, so I thought I'd share that happiness with the world today by posting my treefolk deck.
The deck's main focus is of course treefolk. I'll go through and explain the deck's key creatures. Also, the maybeboard is a sort of museum, showcasing all the cards that used to be in the deck, as well as cards that were strongly considered for a time. It also has cards that you could include in a sideboard if you wanted to make one. Anyways, on to the deck!
Bosk Banneret is a fantastic card to have in your starting hand. Having just 2 on the board makes nearly all the other treefolk cost a single mana which is incredible. Sometimes I can play 3 or 4 trees in a single turn bc of him.
Battlewand Oak is the deck's most powerful creature. With one Rancor the oak becomes a 3/3 trampler who can easily become a 7/7 just by playing a land and a tree. Nameless Inversion is an important card, since it's basically giant growth and lightning bolt in one card. The instant speed allows you to grow your oaks offturn.
Your main goal early game is to use Commune with Nature and Winding Way to get as many bosks and oaks as you can. In the meantime, cycle the elves and wraiths, and play Tilling Treefolk who is the Mulldrifter of this deck. This farmin' tree can bring back lands you have cycled (or ones that Winding Way dropped in the grave). With 2 bosks, playing him and cycling the lands is 3 mana total.
Wickerbough Elder is here because I play casual multiplayer pauper. If you're looking for an optimized 1v1 deck, 2 Street Wraiths can take his place. Another optimization you probably should make is switching Ashes to Ashes to Cast Down (I just like Ashes because it fits the tree theme better, and there's a tree in the art)
Black Poplar Shaman is really a great card, though I'm only running 1. Can be extremely useful late game, since he basically makes all your trees indestructible if you have enough mana, but he's another one you should consider dropping if you want to make a fully optimized version of this deck.
I recently dropped Unearth from this deck. It lets you recur every important creature in this deck, but I recently improved this deck's consistency with the creature digging spells and I had to cut a lot of the noncreature spells. Could be a useful sideboard card if you were to make one.
Lastly, with the new Generous Ent card from the LOTR set, this deck got a lot better. This guy can grab 3 different cards: Forests for speed, Haunted Mire for black mana, and Gingerbread Cabin if you already have 3 forests. And, when you get him late game, he can cost as little as 2 mana from your bosks. Just 2 bosks makes him 4 mana, which is still a pretty insane value. I also like the food tokens, they've saved me from burn a surprising number of times, and if you use Ashes, they let you not feel so bad about the 5 life.
I also added Elvish Visionary because it's basically a 1 mana cycle with a body if you have a bosk on the board, since she's a shaman. And she's a creature, a great choice if you Commune with Nature and you want to keep digging. Same with Street Wraith (which you should replace Wickerbough Elder with if you want the optimized version of this deck).
With Generous Ent as well as the recent changes I've made to this deck, it's actually quite powerful. You can get a wall of trees out fairly quickly if you play your hand right. Commune with Nature and Winding Way are really really good here, if you have 2 in your starting hand, you're very very likely to find an oak or bosk from one of them.
Try this deck out yourself, you will be surprised by how powerful it is! Go trees!
