Maybeboard

Here's the Reddit post for Version 1 of this deck, in case y'all are interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/7dwnb5/new_brew_sub200_combomidrange_ezuri_claw_of/

CounterPunch is a reactive and adaptive combo deck with a midrange backup plan, utilizing the ability of Ezuri, Claw of Progress to generate mana, card advantage, extra turns, damage, and eventually victory.

A brief overview of the main synergies and win conditions of the deck:

Ezuri, Claw of Progress + Sage of Hours = Infinite turns with 5+ experience counters (which is not difficult to get). This is how we win most of our games, and it's all thanks to a seemingly measly 2-drop. For those of you skeptics, yes we can take infinite turns despite a limited library size because we can repeatedly shuffle Green Sun's Zenith back into our deck so we don't deck ourselves as well kill our opponents. If you really want, you can even add in Seasons Past as an infinite draw engine, but I don't love the card in the deck due to its high CMC. There are better draw options.

Ezuri, Claw of Progress + Gyre Sage = Huge amounts of green mana. No, seriously, this guy becomes insane when left on the field for 2+ turns. Can easily fuel repeated digs with Duskwatch Recruiter  , facilitates use of Mirrorpool's activated abilities, and has a whole other host of functions. A+ ramp.

Ezuri, Claw of Progress + Blighted Agent = A fast clock. Players who can't find an answer to this dude will cripple in 1-2 turns. Very good backup win con.

Ezuri, Claw of Progress + Fathom Mage = An amazing draw engine. The mage is bonkers with Ezuri and will help you dig deep into your library to find answers and win conditions if not removed immediately.

A Turn 5 win is not uncommon, and the deck packs a damage backup plan in case Sage of Hours is rendered unplayable via removal and the like. Turn 3 is possible, albeit very unlikely.

Turn 4 Win I came across while testing:

Kept hand with: Forest, Island, Rogue's Passage, Sol Ring, Arbor Elf, Burgeoning, Eldritch Evolution

Turn 1: Forest, Burgeoning (Put down Island on opponent's turn)

Turn 2: Land, Sol Ring, Ezuri.

Turn 3: Dryad Arbor, Bring to Light into Gyre Sage (2 counters on Sage by end of turn)

Turn 4: Float 1 green with Dryad Arbor, Skullclamp it. Draw into Duskwatch Recruiter  . Tap out, casting Arbor Elf, recruiter, and Eldritch Evolution into Sage of Hours.

Turn 3 Win I came across while testing:

Starting hand: 5 lands (one of them was Gemstone Caverns), Sol Ring, and Managorger Hydra.

Start with Caverns on the field, exiling a land.

Turn 1: Land, Sol ring, Managorger

Turn 2: Ezuri, land

Turn 3: Peregrine drake, floating a mana. Eldritch Evolution saccing Ezuri, find Deadeye Navigator. Make infinite mana by flickering Drake. Recast ezuri and do the same. Move to combat and put infinite +1/+1 counters on Hydra, swinging for lethal (it has trample).

Note that the Maybeboard includes more expensive cards which will most likely increase the competitiveness of the deck. For the sake of my $200 budget goal, I've opted not to include those cards in this build, although players may feel free to add them in as appropriate to their wallet and playgroup.

The $200 budget is pretty cheap for many players, and the deck functions effectively for its cost (from my experience, at least). Note that the $200 does not include the extra cost of the foils/special version of cards which I opted to add to the deck.

Finally, enjoy the build, and any feedback is met with utmost appreciation and regard.

Thanks, as always.
