RocketGoBang is making serious waves with his Eldrazi mill deck The Eldrazi Millstone. So I asked myself if I could come up with a deck that uses a mill theme, but take in a completely different direction.
I started with the basic combination of
Sphinx's Tutelage
and a lot of card draw spells. Then came the decision of what to do once the trilands and fetchlands leave Standard.
I decided to be a bit predictable, and go with Blue/Red/Black. Given that our white cards are no longer playable, we had to make some changes.
Spells that draw three cards are the best way to win the game for us, so
Oath of Jace
and Painful Truths are our
Treasure Cruise
replacements. They are always gonna be more expensive, but our 3 color manabase allows us to get maximum value out of Truths, while our Oath can add a layer of protection to our Tutelage, should anyone still be playing Dromoka's Command.
The sideboard plan has changed a bit. Beatdown is the name of the game. Thing in the Ice
can flip within a turn or 2 of coming down, while Stormchaser Mage gets bigger every time we cast a draw spell. And,
Titan's Strength
helps speed up both, while pushing through even more damage in, well, an instant.

Suggestions on the removal/counters in the main deck, or creatures to replace Thunderbreak in the sideboard, would be extremely welcomed. Making mill work in this new Standard would be super fun, and siding in the big beatdown creatures seems like it would be quite the nasty surprise.
Happy milling!
