I'm having a hard time... All these cards look so good! However, I will explain what I am intending and maybe you guys can help!

I am trying to make a mid-range deck that is focused on Primordial Hydra . Particularly in transferring +1/+1 's to him, and making him as tough as possible. What do you guys think? How can we make this possible? It will need a lot of mana ramp, a wee bit of control to get to the mid game, and a lot of +1/+1 's. How can we do it??

Drop the lanterns, Farseek and Arbor Elf should be your ramp components since you're running green. I've been running a hydra deck for a while now and have found that some form of hexproof is necessary as he is the first target as soon as he hits the board. However you want to add that in is up to you.

The main problem I see is what happens if they are able to control your corpsejack or hydra? You have no alternate wincon and no ability to tudor. Might I suggest a 6cmc card that makes everything lethal. Sort of an "oh shit" card for when your concept is wrecked. For instance a card:Death's Presence, something like this keeps you viable and gives you a fighting chance when your concept goes to shit. You only need 1-2 in your deck as a just-in-case.

The problem I see with Arbor Elf is that he applies only to forests. My deck is not only green, I'm also running blue and black. So I can get a bit screwed if I don't have a forest. That's why I put in Gyre Sage and Somberwald Sage . Though they are both a few more turns out, they have more mana potential. I'll think about getting ride of the Chromatic Lantern 's.

That's a good point about the win condition. I was thinking perhaps some control cards thrown in there for good measure. What hexproofs should I add? And card:Death's Presence is great, but what can I get rid of to add it??

Arbor Elf also applies to land with "Forest" subtype, such as Breeding Pool . I like the Somberwald Sage more than the Gyre Sage with this deck seeing as how you only have 16 creatures and a poor "evolve curve" no offense, of course. But either one will work just fine. As far as hexproofing, card:Ranger's Guile, Sheltering Word (my fave), and Simic Charm , or Mizzium Skin can all do the job in a pinch. If it were me, I would drop the ranger's path. Your deck seems like it would come alive at 4cmc, so I would want to get the ball rolling instead of dropping a sorc to get to 6cmc, ya know? But that could get sorted out in playtesting.

Have you thought about dropping the Rancor and the Forced Adaptation and just running Ring of Kalonia ? I'm going to be playtesting both situations when gatecrash drops to see which I prefer with Simic. And I'm a HUGE fan of Rancor .

If you wouldn't mind taking a look at More PANCAKES and giving me any thoughts you may have as well. The more eyes, the better.

Good point, I forgot that the new land cards had "forest" and "swamp" on them.

And no offense taken, it's not supposed to be exclusively and evolve deck, but rather a +1/+1 deck.

Let me take a look at what you've suggested, and then I'll take a look at your deck :)

This looks like a really good deck, definitely going to playtest it and see how it runs.

I've been thinking about making a simic deck myself with small creatures having evolve and "hexproofing" the larger ones (namely Primordial Hydra )... I agree with Heleus that card:Ranger's Guile, Sheltering Word and Simic Charm all could work, but what about Elgaud Shieldmate ? Soulbond her to Primordial Hydra as early as possible and you won't have to use up your instants (or be required to carry so many as a matter of fact). Just a thought

Also, I LOVE the way Essence Harvest works with Primordial Hydra !! Those two have been a game winner for me on several occassions!

When reading Heleus' comment, I missed Mizzium Skin ... another nice hexproof card. And lets be honest, with an overload cost of two, (that could save you from a boardwipe) it's pretty awesome!

Just wanted to point out that an overloaded Mizzium Skin won't save you from a board wipe like Supreme Verdict as it doesn't target

Also, Alpha Authority is a good way to give Primordial Hydra Hexproof, as well as being able to take out two chump blockers at once

Denial048 says... #11

Oops, I got Alpha Authority mixed up with Madcap Skills . It still prevents them from chump blocking heaps.

Primordial hydra gets trample at ten counters, usually have him at around 36 by turn 6.

Denial048 says... #13

I know, but your opponent can still chump block him to help prevent some damage. With Alpha Authority , they can only block with one creature, so if you have him at 36/36, they would want to hope they either have lots of life or a creature over 17/17

I like the Alpha Authority a lot, I think I'm going to implement it.

Good call on the Mizzium Skin , sorry for my mistake.

If you could find a way to fit it, I feel that "saproling spouting" would be completely stupid in this deck once the hydra has been deployed.

cameronc65 says... #17

I've been considering that card for some time. It would be a good win condition. However, if anyone has Terminus or some other board wipe, it wouldn't matter either way. That why I decided to add some control.

February 2, 2013 11:53 p.m.

Heleus says... #18

I had plans of going the Primordial Hydra + Fungal Sprouting method but decided once hydra is big enough for that spell to matter, the hydra has already won the game for you.

cameronc65 says... #19

Ya, exactly, at that point he has trample, and it just rolls over any other creature. Like I said, the hardest decks to play with are control and or mill decks.

What should I take out in order to put Predator Ooze in?

where is the Master Biomancer?

March 7, 2013 9:28 a.m.

cameronc65 says... #24

Master Biomancer is no as necessary - I chose counters over him. Though, I think I may be switching over to a Predator Ooze over Primordial Hydra. If I do, then I certainly will try to get Master Biomancer in there.

Check out my similar deck: Double Them Counters. I'm using a Gyre Sage for some ramp, and lately have found Increasing Savagery to be rediculous when the Corpsejack Menace is out. Also check out the Simic Charm, you can use it to give your stuff hexproof, or as a semi-removal to return creature to it's owners hand (great against tokens!).
