I built this deck based on a Maelstrom Wanderer EDH my buddy has. Quick ramp, free bombs.
I want Narset to be as rude and competitive as possible, for the trash talking scrubs of the mtg world. Which is why I built this to be a solitaire deck, I'm the only one who gets to play.
The idea is to ramp into Narset as soon as possible, hopefully getting some form of haste along the way. Swing into extra turns, board wipes, and planeswalkers giving me the advantage it takes to win over time.
Card inclusions:
Tri Color:
Command Tower, City of Brass, Mana Confluence,
Mystic Monastery
,
Reflecting Pool
Duals:
OG Duals - Volcanic Island, Tundra, Plateau
Shocks - Steam Vents,
Hallowed Fountain
, Sacred Foundry
Filter Lands - Cascade Bluffs, Mystic Gate, Rugged Prairie
Pain Lands - Shivan Reef, Adarkar Wastes, Battlefield Forge
Check Lands -
Sulfur Falls
, Glacial Fortress, Clifftop Retreat
Fetches (I use all fetches that can get me at least one dual):
Scalding Tarn, Misty Rainforest, Arid Mesa, Marsh Flats, Polluted Delta, Windswept Heath, Wooded Foothills, Bloodstained Mire, Flooded Strand
Basic (I only put in one of each in case I run out of duals for a fetch. No need for more considering I don't run land ramp, and no creatures for anybody to Path to Exile:
1x Island, 1x Plains, 1x Mountain
Other:
Strip Mine and Wasteland - They are an almost auto-include in any EDH for troublesome lands such as Gaea's Cradle, Maze of Ith, and Narset's true enemy Arcane Lighthouse. Also these with Crucible of Worlds is pretty mean.
Ancient Tomb - Narset 1 turn earlier.
Maze of Ith - Someone has a blocker that would kill Narset? doesn't matter. Swing, Trigger Narset's ability and use maze to keep her out of harms way.
Hall of the Bandit Lord - Haste enabler.
Reliquary Tower - This with Enter the Infinite? Damn son.
Dack Fayden - Mainly used to steal a sol ring early game or loot late game in a sticky situation.
Jace, the Mind Sculptor - Scry 1 on anybody, brainstorm, unsummon, win the game.
Narset Transcendent - the +1 is a may ability giving me the option to take a spell I don't want to cast with Narset, Enlightened Master. -9 win the game.
Tezzeret the Seeker - This card generates so much utility, allowing me to grab almost any artifact in my deck, or untapping a Mana Vault, or a Grim Monolith with his +1. Kids a beast.
Karn Liberated - Almost never used for his ultimate, hes pretty much just a double Vindicate in the form of a Planeswalker.
Ugin, the Spirit Dragon - I put him in for his -X ability as a field wipe that hits anything under Narset, or a bolt on my way to an ultimate when I'm in a winning position.
Obviously the main combo in the deck is Enter the Infinite + Omniscience
. But the card I found perfect for the library spot is Beacon of Tomorrows letting me draw it, cast it for free, return it as my library, take another extra turn, etc. Infinite turns with the rest of the deck in my hand thanks to Reliquary Tower.
Another combo is Aggravated Assault + Sword of Feast and Famine
. As long as you have at least five lands you can swing, tap 5 for an extra combat step, swing again which untaps your lands, use it on another extra combat step, etc. Infinite combat steps.
Extra turns - Every extra turn in Magic that doesn't involve me losing the game as a draw back.
Ramp - All the most efficient ramp spells.
Wipes - All the wipes are able to avoid Narset, except for All Is Dust which is a last option for things that aren't easily dealt with.
Answers - the best of the best when it comes to answers, I've tried Path to Exile and Wear / Tear, and I'll keep them in mind if I need more.
Tutors - Almost all them win the game with Narset.
Extra Combat Steps - Everyone suggests I use World at War and Savage Beating as well, but I decided 5 was a little too much and just wen't with the three that can be re-used.
Card Quality - Obviously Brainstorm, Ponder, Preordain. Top will always be an EDH staple, and Scroll Rack in this deck is good if you have a bomb in your hand that you want to cast with Narset.
Creatures - I think creatures are liabilities in EDH, so I use as few as possible, especially with Narset unable to cast them for free. So Snapcaster Mage on extra turns, Stoneforge Mystic for Voltron, and Academy Rector for Omniscience. they're all to good to take out.
Voltron - Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots as Haste enablers for Narset, the two swords for protection / combos, and Darksteel Plate to give a Narset, who already has Hexproof, indestructibility is crazy.
Well, thats pretty much it. Leave a +1 if you like the deck, or suggestions if you have any. I'm always open to new ideas! thanks.
