Tymna & Bruse Tarl Reanimator/Attrition

Commander / EDH Multiplayer

WizardMN

This deck is kind of a culmination of a couple previous decks over the past 2 years or so. I originally had a Karador, Ghost Chieftain deck that was built with ramp, attrition, and reanimation in mind. I then build a Xira Arien deck that was mostly cheating creatures into play from the top of my library. Finally, the last inspiration of this deck was Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. That deck was basically just small stuff that I could get back over and over again.

Karador and Xira eventually were merged into a Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder & Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper deck. The main issue with that was that it just played too similarly to Karador and red did not add a lot. And then I ended up finding it just wasn't as fun as it used to be for whatever reason so I dismantled it.

I ended up building Alesha about a year later and I loved the deck to start with. However, as time wore on, and I tuned some of my other decks a little more, I came to the realization that she was my weakest deck. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as some deck has to be the weakest, but it just felt disappointing as I wanted her to be better than she was.

So, I kept the colors and about 75 of the cards and then re-tooled it into this deck. It now plays more like Karador and actually has some power/resiliency behind it since the creatures are not all 2 power.

The idea of the deck is to basically overwhelm the other players in a war of attrition. That is, I play the early game with the idea of just answering their threats at parity or with a bit of advantage on my side. Board wipes clear things out if they get out of control. Things like Bone Shredder and Big Game Hunter get rid of threats while leaving bodies behind. Chainer, Dementia Master allows me to get stuff back as I need it. Sunforger gives me a way to get eh answer I need at the time I need it. I have some grave hate in the deck as well. Essentially, I want my opponents to expend all their resources trying to build board states and once there resources are dwindling, I start building mine up to finish off the game. It plays like a control deck without playing blue. I love blue, but I like being able to take control of a game without it.
