Tyrant's Court

This is my sixth big edit of this deck, my first edh deck. Currently, the deck lacks interaction and true combos, but has a proper engine. MY current goal with the deck is a fun, semi-competitive build. Fast combo iterations aren't my interest, as I enjoy using Mesmeric Orb and Altar of Dementia for value. Laboratory Maniac has replaced Thassa's Oracle in the current iteration of the deck, as he gives me a win condition when my deck threatens to mill itself out, as opposed to being the sole goal of the deck. Consultation combos are fine, but are not appropriate for the power level I want this deck to reside at.

More tutors would clearly make this deck better, but I haven't spent the money on them, and am not yet sure how many I would like to add. I want synergy, but too much consistency would just result in a b-line for combos, which is what I'm attempting to avoid. would like to test this deck in more blind meta's to see where it sits, and possible use the sideboard for more competitive cards to swap out.

and yes I should probably run more lands

There are two main ways to mill out the deck:

  1. Mesmeric Orb + deck:aphetto alchemist can mill the deck out instantly, followed by a Dread Return into a Laboratory Maniacif you need to push a win, however, it can also be used as a value play, amassing zombies with Sidisi, Brood Tyrant for a win attempt the following turn. This deck does not have any shuffle affects, so if you pass the turn, you must win that turn, as milling enough cards to create that many zombies would put you down in range of being milled out by card:mesmiric orb during your Untap. The benefit to this combo, is that your ability to mill via individual triggers means you can mill in response. You can mill in response to card:Labrartory Maniac's draw trigger. In a more competitive setting, you can mill in response to Thassa's Oracle's etc trigger, allowing you to keep cards in the deck to avoid decking out, or mill down to nothing if she is destroyed in response to her enter the battlefield trigger.

  2. Altar of Dementia + Sidisi, Brood Tyrant This is not a true combo. The less creatures you have in the deck, the less reliable it is. This is also my favorite combo. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant creates a single 2/2 zombie token when a mill trigger mills one or more creatures. You sacrifice this zombie token to mill two cards from your deck with Altar of Dementia, and then hope to get another zombie token. This can be made more consistent with Lords like card:Diregraf Captian whose increase the cards milled per trigger, card:Mikaues, the Unhallowed who gets you another zombie with a +1/+1 counter, or Extractor Demon who mills an extra 2 cards per trigger. Mikkeaus, or any combination of these cards make it consistent.

Other combos and sinergies: Pitiless Plunderer + Altar of Dementia + Gravecrawler - this is an unprotected way to mill yourself, or mill out all of your opponents. Pitiless Plunderer is a recent add, and an absolute all star in any sacrifice theme deck. Not having a "nontoken" clause in his triggered ability makes him a massive value engine with any sac outlet.

a much worse way to mill out opponents would be to mill your own deck, and then reanimate a Hedron Crab with Araumi of the Dead Tide and kill a World Shaper to mill the table for roughly 180 cards. This doesn't seem good, but I just thought of it and I like the idea.

there's a bunch of other synergies and such but I'm bored now so i'll write them later.
