Custom BFZ-IXN Cube, commissioned by Tyrone Beath

Evenly balanced, both in terms of color and archetype representation, this cube includes standard all-stars and some lesser known draft powerhouses from sets Battle for Zendikar through Ixalan. If you've played standard during those rotations, you will be sure to recognize some of your favorite individual cards as well as constructed strategies from those times.

White is mostly included for it's excellent support characteristics and strong generalized removal ability. From dealing with enchantments and artifacts that would otherwise be untouchable to other colors, to packing in multiple board wipes to enable the long game strategies to shine, there are excellent mid-late game cards from this color. While optimally used for it's control elements, white is also capable of producing multiple small threats to swarm the board, making it hard for opponents to effectively block each successive wide attack. Team pump spells that are effective at making your creatures trade up in small skirmishes early can become deadly finishers once a critical mass of attackers has been reached.

A healthy selection of countermagic and tempo elements, backed up by excellent card drawing ability, the Blue aspect of this cube represents sensitive decision trees and is reliant on the players ability to properly evaluate threats, board advantage and the granularity of individual cards. With large versatility in removal, albeit at a loss of card resources and a lack of a clear bridge from the early game to the late game, drafting a deck with a strong blue element will depend on how well the player is able to line up their control with their massive, hard to answer threats.

Black is packed with a variety of effects, most recognizably, it's ability to eliminate creature based threats and pick problems out of the hand before they even get to the stack. As a recent addition to it's section of the color pie, Black also has access to unconditional Planeswalker removal, making it the strongest disruptive option. While the creatures in black are often less threatening than the other colors counterparts, keeping your opponents off the board is what black specializes in, letting it control the speed of the race and deploy an effective clock while disrupting the opponents attempts to re-stabilize.

The premium aggressive color is well represented in the packs, with a large amount of efficient and versatile burn effects and low to the ground aggressive threats. The fastest finishes in the cube will be enabled by Red's unmatched ability to melt an opponents life total away in the early turns of the game. Once their opponents have managed to deploy effective blockers, your damage based removal spells now double as a method of rapidly dealing the final points of damage directly to your opponents life total to close out games.

As was the case with the draft formats from this time, you'll find that Green is incredibly deep and complex allowing it to support multiple players at the table with powerful cards that ramp, select cards and power out massive game ending threats. The early game for green consists of securing plentiful mana production and digging into the deck for threats that outclass your opponents. Due to Green's ability to consistently produce more power and toughness per point of mana than any other color, coupled with the innate ability to make large amounts of mana, Green wins games by gumming up the board with superior bodies and then removing large chunks of their opponents resources with must-answer threats.
